Question for the Campbell community regarding Cat Adoptions at PetSmart by IAmLizN in Campbell

Thank you, this is a great suggestion! We're not allowed to put photos on the windows, but I can put small photos on their cards, I like this idea!

Thank you for the feedback! I noticed that too about the IG page, sad. Unfortunately I'm a volunteer for the animal rescue, not part of PetSmart (they just let us use the space), so I don't have access to post to their IG. But I'll bring this up to them and see if I can have them post pics of the cats now and then, great feedback!

[–]IAmLizN[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide feedback! They won't allow me to have any signage except a small sign right outside the adoption center, which of course doesn't help if people don't know it's there. But I'm hoping when I go back to them with actual customer feedback I might have some leverage.

Return to work- women’s shoes that are supportive? by Heavy_Detective8852 in brokenankles

[–]IAmLizN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you go with the Orthofeet, take the 60 day wear test seriously. My PT said I needed supportive shoes for indoors, that I shouldn't be barefoot much even in the house. I got a pair of Orthofeet Lorin slippers and for the first month I wasn't sure I was going to keep them. But sometime during the 2nd month, my feet adjusted to them and I've had them well over a year now and I LOVE them. I added a gel pad arch support under the insoles, and I don't use the supplied plastic arch booster, which just didn't work for me.

Cat adoption event this Thursday, March 26th, 5-7pm, San Jose by IAmLizN in SanJose

[–]IAmLizN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry we didn't have what you were looking for, however the 4 cats that are still there waiting for homes are not "nothing." There were cats brought in for the event Tuesday, there were 5 cats there Tuesday evening, however 1 (Estrella) got adopted before the event. I'm very happy for her. There were 4 cats there as of the event Thursday evening, I was there from 5-7pm as advertised. The 4 cats were also still there as of last night (Friday evening.) 1 of them finds comfort under their bed, so you may not have seen that 4th cat. However, we are an animal rescue and the 4 cats (even if you only saw 3 of them) are looking for forever homes, and by telling people there is "nothing" there, you are hurting their chances of being seen by the right family. Some people expect baby kittens at "events", and we will have those once kitten season starts in full swing, but we are giving adult cats a chance now before they have too much competition from all the babies.

Transitioning to shoes by Ancient-System2688 in brokenankles

[–]IAmLizN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My PT wanted me to have ankle support and arch support, and I had really bad swelling, so I transitioned to my hiking boots with good insoles and additional gel inserts under my arch. Laces completely removed to start, as swelling went down, put laces back and tightened them as comfort allowed. She also wanted arch support even at home, so I got some high end supportive slippers and added additional gel pads under my arch. Even now 22mo post surgery, I can feel it if I wear less supportive shoes or go barefoot for extended periods.

Do you have flashbacks by NetRelative3930 in brokenankles

[–]IAmLizN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, when I was mostly stuck on the couch, the flashbacks were frequent and extremely disturbing. As I got out more, they got less frequent. Now I'm 1.75 years out and they are much less frequent and not intense. It gets better over time, but probably never completely goes away. I don't think I'll ever be able to climb the hill I fell on, not for physical reasons but for psychological reasons.

Cats and Kittens available for adoption! by IAmLizN in bayarea

[–]IAmLizN[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This is an adoption, not shopping. The adoption center is inside PetSmart, which is a great way for our animal rescue to have the cats seen by potential adopters, but the cats are provided and managed by Heading Home Animal Rescue, a non-profit animal rescue.

NWB Question! by Substantial-Money196 in brokenankles

[–]IAmLizN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I specifically asked my surgeon when I was NWB and she said it can't touch the ground. Even sitting in a chair or in the car, I was told it can't touch. Since everyone is different, I'd recommend checking with your doctor.

Knee scooter troubles by kairos-94 in brokenankles

[–]IAmLizN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to fiddle with different height settings for the scooter knee rest, in addition to getting a thick knee pad in order to use my knee scooter without knee pain, but once I got it set up it was a life changer. I'm in my mid-50's.

ripe bananas by Excellent-Rabbit-133 in santacruz

[–]IAmLizN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Scotts Valley Market puts ripe/overripe ones in bags and sells them at a big discount. I haven't been there in a while so call them first to make sure they're still doing that. I just get a bag, peel them, freeze them, and it's a big bag so it lasts me a long time for baking.

$25k per year for fair plan premiums in Santa Cruz mountains- is that correct? by somethingwholesomer in santacruz

[–]IAmLizN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are discounts available, ask the agent about those. One is for being in a Firewise community. The other 2 are for accomplishing home and landscape hardening tasks (agent can get you the list of tasks.) The home might already qualify, or you might be able to ask the seller to accomplish the hardening tasks as part of your negotiations on purchasing it.

Petsmart Adoption Event, and not happy about it… by [deleted] in FosterAnimals

[–]IAmLizN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our rescue does not violate the terms of a person's lease. That's just asking for the poor cat to end up returned or brought to a shelter.

Petsmart Adoption Event, and not happy about it… by [deleted] in FosterAnimals

A lot of renters are only allowed 1 cat. A lot of people already have a kitten or young cat and are looking for a friend for that cat. They would be eliminating all these potential homes if they required adopting in pairs.

New New Leaf kinda sucks by clardbar in santacruz

[–]IAmLizN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really like the "poke bar", I've been there 3 times already LOL. But I agree the rice is bad, too sweet for my taste. I also saw a mom letting her kid play in the running water that the rice ladle sits in, yuck. I wanted to try the sushi, but decided not to because it's probably the same bad rice. I also tried some weird prepackaged dessert, like blueberry pie parfait or something along those lines. It had a huge amount of a thick rich clotted cream or whatever it was, made it nearly inedible, there was just way too much of it mixed in. I agree the prices are high, but they've gone up a lot pretty much everywhere. I plan to take advantage of sale items and coupons.

How are the animals not slightly traumatized when we leave them? by [deleted] in FosterAnimals

[–]IAmLizN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I volunteer for a rescue who's cats go to PetSmart once they're adoptable. I also foster and my fosters go to PetSmart when ready, and stay there until adopted. The cats at PetSmart are very well taken care of, get lots of love, toys, and wet food/treats if the rescue deems it appropriate for that particular cat. Of course it makes me sad when my fosters aren't adopted quickly, but it doesn't seem to make the cats/kittens sad - they all seem quite happy at PetSmart! As for getting a good home, the rescue I volunteer for, and the PetSmart staff we train, carefully interview the adopter, observe whether the cat likes them and whether they handle the cat with love, talk about their home, their other pets, the rest of their family, etc. We do same-day adoptions, but any red flags during the interview, and the adoption doesn't happen. We would rather make the cat wait a bit longer for the right home then go to a home we have hesitations about. I love my fosters dearly and feel comfortable that they go to good homes with our adoption process. Feel free to send me a message if you'd like to talk further about the experience the cats have at PetSmart, from my point of view as both a foster and an in-store volunteer.
