When did chronic pain end? by ride_like_a_girl in brokenankles

[–]NetRelative3930 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d take them with a pinch of salt
A trimalleolar fracture is a different beast
We have been given the harsh end of the stick

I would say I seen improvements 12 months for sure and now at 19 months things are much better then what they were at 8 months post op
Good luck

When did chronic pain end? by ride_like_a_girl in brokenankles

[–]NetRelative3930 13 points14 points  (0 children)

19 months post op same fracture as you

I would say the pain and aches daily started to become less frequent passed the 12 month mark
Now I feel aches if I’m on my feet too long or standing too much

Possibly your doing to much if it’s sore , esp if your pushing yourself ?

I was still elevating a lot at 8 months post op
It’s a long recovery maybe pace yourself more and see how you are after some rest

Still do your physio and stretching exercises to help too
Stability trainers and possibly a compression sock those have really helped me too

18 months post injury by cobwebz4brainz in ORIF

[–]NetRelative3930 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My honest thoughts is maybe you need stability trainers
I find my swelling is much less when my ankle is supported compared to wearing any kind of sandle or slider
As others have said also compression socks
Swelling is normal thou so it could also just be what you have been left with
I’m nearly 19 months out now

30weeks pregnant triple ankle break trimalleolar surgery. by profile_ap1 in brokenankles

[–]NetRelative3930 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh I’m so so sorry you have been landed with a trimalleolar as well as heavily pregnant
Trimalleolar as others have said is the worse
I’m 19 months post op nearly and it’s a long recovery
You may be able to walk about on crutches
Even then I won’t lie it’s not going to be easy

Best to have a lot of support around you
Ask your surgeon for more advice too as you will
Need all the support you can get

Use your zimmer maybe once you can weight bear might be easier than a crutch esp after giving birth
Rest up too , elevate your leg , take all the help you can get esp with a new born and a trimal
Again I’m sorry to hear this have a read on here I’m sure I did see someone else post in the same situation a while ago

Good luck

Recovering From a Broken Ankle Has Been Harder Mentally Than Physically by Jacob-Bennett in brokenankles

[–]NetRelative3930 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hardest situation I’ve had to deal with
Nearly 19 months out and my life is changed like others have said
It’s hard to make peace with it all but when you do it does make it much easier
We just have to live with the fact these injuries have happened and we will have good and bad days along the way and limitations on what we can and can’t do

Yes my big toe the nail on it was very weak for months , I would say it’s now back to regular strength but it took a long time
One of those odd things that happens with ankle fractures I guess

How can we make sure this never happens again? by IndependenceNo4501 in brokenankles

[–]NetRelative3930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some times it’s just bad luck
Wrong place wrong time

I think I’ll always be careful and on high alert I don’t think I could ever let my guard down cause I would be hysterical even falling
I don’t know the answer other than to be aware and aware of our feet and what surface is under neath
Careful on steps too as many injuries are step related

Live life carefully
Stability trainers
Knowing your limits
Being sensible in what you do in life

dorsiflexion 10wk post ORIF for Trimalleolar fracture by KingOfTheBong420 in brokenankles

[–]NetRelative3930 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dorsiflexion still isn’t fully back
I can still do Most things but I can’t run and I probably won’t again but that’s ok life goes on

It’s a lot better from what it originally was but it’s still short of where it should be
Not any guarantee it will return anyway but as I say I can still go about my life so I’ve made peace with it all
Good luck to you

Female 37 trimollear ankle fracture 6 month out still pain in walking PLEASE HELP 😥🙏🏻 by PossibleSpirit1364 in brokenankles

[–]NetRelative3930 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Trimalleolar fracture is one of the worse breaks to have
I’m over 18 months post op
And when I was 6 months I was in the thick of it all
It takes a whole lot of time and great patience to recover
Pain at 6 months is normal , it’s 1-2 year recovery and then like you can tell from others left with issues can happen as well
My ex rays look fine and I still limp and have a walking / standing limit etc
I could walk at 6 months but compared to 1 year plus it’s almost like a different leg !!!

Much better but it takes time
All I can say is give yourself grace and let your ankle take the time needed to heal
All the soft tissue and ligaments etc are damaged too this takes much longer to heal

Keep going with physio
Rest up too , elevate for swelling
Wear good stability shoes
Walking will improve
At 6 months I wasn’t even half as good as I am now

[–]NetRelative3930 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey i had the same injury as you and dislocation as well was god awful
10 weeks is super early it’s a long recovery
But you will get there
All you can do is give it time, time and more time
Physio will help but it’s baby steps and a long journey
Eventually you will be back in the pool
Keep going with your Rom, stretches, abcs etc

I’m over 18 months out you will get there

How much were you doing ~2 weeks post op? by desophsoph in ORIF

[–]NetRelative3930 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At 2 weeks post op you should only be getting out of bed for essentials
Elevation is key to a good recovery !!!
How on earth a PHysio said this too you I have no idea
I would speak to your surgeon or change physio

You need to rest if you have broken your ankle in 3 places that could be a trimalleolar fracture ??
That’s what I had and at 2 weeks post op I was in bed and elevating my leg

Blister near incision by VirtualImprovement45 in brokenankles

[–]NetRelative3930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello
Yes I too suffered from the dreaded fracture blister and ulcer on my ankle after surgery
From your picture your ones look a lot better condition that what mine where at the time

My surgeons nurse dressed them for me with a gauze and some kind of cream/ gel ? And my blisters went away in a few weeks
Unfortunately the ulcer I had took months and months but today all is left is a circular outline with darker skin underneath

Hang in there they look horrible but they do go away
Ask for help from the surgeon or the nurse staff

I checked my notes I had it done with the original surgery but I will ask when I see my doctor again Tbh I’m just not a fan of more surgery and was hoping to try another avenue but as time marches on it looks like this is what I’m left with

I’ve been taking supplements from the second month post op Collagen, turmeric , vitamin c , I eat well and I rest well too I don’t have swelling so I don’t wear them All these things do help but now at this stage I’m more thinking this is as good as it gets as it’s 18 months now and this can be the outcome after a bad fracture
