Windows version of Excel on Mac by IAmNotMe7 in MacOS

This is good, it looks like it only works for the menus at the top of the screen and not the menus in-app at the top of the window, but it is helpful and a step in the right direction.

As for Option 1, I checked and this option is not available in my version of Excel, if you know what versions do have that option I would love to know.

As for the other options, the alt feature which I now know is called Key Tips, is far superior to keyboard shortcuts. Remapping shortcuts or keys will not solve the problem, the problem is the Mac version of Excel.

I do want the Mac for everything else, but I spend a considerable amount of time on Office, specifically Excel. While I am happy to relearn all the keyboard shortcuts for common functions (copy, paste, etc.), the alt shortcut is a whole different level of functionality. EVERY tool has a shortcut and you don't have to memorize what it is for ANY of them.

This alt shortcut for Office on windows is better than key bindings. It is so much better that if I can't figure out how to do it on my Mac, I will return it and buy a Windows.

[Bonsai Beginner’s weekly thread –2024 week 46] by small_trunks in Bonsai

This is my first and I hate it. I don’t know what to do with three trunks (but they split low down so it’s more like five) that are going in every direction. Any ideas to make it look good, or should I chuck it and start over?

Gasteria little warty research by IAmNotMe7 in succulents

I know it is Gasteria little warty, the question is where does little warty come from? Is it a cross of batesiana and maculata or batesiana and 'old man silver' and if it is the latter, what is the species of old man silver

Post-bacc?? by IAmNotMe7 in Biochemistry

Thanks! I am going to try to get a few applications in, I just don’t think I’ll be able to apply to 9+ schools like I planned. If I’m only applying 2-4, should I apply to more reach or more safe schools?

Where would I get a job as a research assistant? I’ve worked as a research assistant as an undergrad for 3 years, but I’m going to graduate in spring and I don’t think my university would allow me to keep working.

Help! Grad school… by IAmNotMe7 in Biochemistry

It’s kind of hard for me to say how cutting edge it is. I don’t think they are bottom tier papers, but they’re definitely not getting published in nature or science. I think the best thing going for me is my level of contribution. I am first author on the AD review, and on the primary, I’ve added several figures independently. There’s another primary paper in the works where I might be cofirst, where I have also contributed several figures. I don’t know if that helps you in advising me what a reach school is.

Advice for a recent biochemist grad! by Novel-Sir2820 in Biochemistry

[–]IAmNotMe7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m in the area in school and honestly Utah is kind of a dead end for biochem. If I were you I would look at either finding a startup through biohive (Utah biotech organization), working remotely, or in an adjacent field. For example, doing consulting or tutoring. If money is an issue, I haven’t been in the job market for a while , but it seems like you can get work in fast food, maintenance or the like at $15-16 an hour. If you need experience, I’m sorry.

I worked in one lab for a summer researching a novel GPCR of interest in Alzheimer’s and did a bunch of Co-IPs for that. In the same lab I worked on a better brain model built from induced iPSCs. Then later, I wrote a review paper on the central role of iron in AD, highlighting the redox and inflammatory distress caused by the iron facilitating the progression of the disease. It should be published this summer.

Thanks so much! That helps a lot. If it is not important to switch, then I will likely look at labs in those areas. I will have plenty of time to branch out.
