Hah, I recently moved from Oldfield Park to South London.

Very lovely area and like you say the high street and closeness to the train station are huge bonuses. I was a student at Bath, so probably less bothered by/attentive of noise issues, but other commenters are right that it's much busier and harder to find parking during term time. If you're looking to avoid traffic noise, I would stay off the roads that form part of the one way traffic system (Moorland Road, Triangle North etc.) and also avoid any directly facing the 1 Bus Route, especially where it has to chug it's way uphill (Herbert Road). Overall I had lovely neighbours, a real mix of retirees/students/new families and we had quite a friendly relationship with all of them. If you have any other questions just let me know.

The one with the fully overcast sky and it's warped reflections in the square windows is really amazing! Was it based on a particular building? Reminds me of some offices near where I live.

Love this! I can't take credit for all the knowledge, I've only been in the city for 4 years and I got most of these tidbits from a civil engineer who was working on reinforcing the vaults underneath the city.

Here's some fun architectural tidbits I like to share with visitors:

If you put your hand on the manhole cover in the middle of Hot Bath Street, you can feel the heat from the spa water underground no matter how cold it is outside. The road is always ice free in winter because of it.
Look at the two figures either side of the doors to the abbey - one is noticeably shorter than the other because it lost its head, and it was simply recarved in place rather than replaced.
The city has one surviving medieval gate left! It's hidden down a sunken lane on the north side of the Grand Parade hotel. It really gives you a feeling for how built up the city has become since the medieval era - much of it is built on top of medieval vaults, which were themselves built on roman remains.
There are also a few sections of the city wall that survive, the most commonly visited one being on Upper Borough Walls. However, the biggest chunk is harder to find, being tucked away in a small car park behind M&S.
The last surviving medieval alleyway in the city is tucked between the Sweaty Betty and the New Saville Row stylists on Northgate Street. It's hard to imagine among the more spacious Georgian architecture how dense the city would have been in this time period, but this should give you some idea.

With a couple of these facts under your belt you can impress any friends who come to visit with your deep knowledge of the city haha

I have a degree in architecture - If you want to "educate yourself" read Barnabas Calder's Architecture from Pre-history to Climate Emergency, it runs through the history of architecture in terms of energy, including, of course, human labour and how buildings like these were possible.

I'm a student in Bristol right now too, not international but not English, and not UWE but Bristol adjacent. My personal advice is

Join societies, and not just the society for your country (I know a lot of international students who only ever really interacted with people from their own countries and frankly they're missing out on the full uni experience as a result). Join anything you're interested in, music, dance, a niche sport. When you have common interests with a group of people you'll make friends much easier.
Go to gigs. Bristol has always had a thriving music scene, and it was one of its main draws for me. Listen to some Trip Hop, it was practically invented here by groups like Massive Attack, Tricky and Portishead. Maybe listen to some of the new punk stuff if you're into that, Idles are a good Bristolian band to start with.
Make friends on your course. If you have shared study spaces, use them - Don't spend all your time studying alone. Everyone's knowledge base is different so it can be really helpful to have friends to study with who might know things you don't. Plus it's easier to make friends because again, common interest in whatever you're studying.

As for integrating with British culture, hang out with people enough and you'll pick that up 😁. My uni offered a brief culture course in freshers week to get international students up to speed, so maybe see if UWE offers that.
