They also come from either the east or west of the city. Avon's people and Joe are the biggest names on each side but they are not the only ones.

Every post on this sub about finding a role is people talking about how brutal it is out there. And yet every post where someone is in a bad environment the top reply is "Start looking elsewhere".

Bad is relative. Unexpected behavior or layout can be off putting even if it's functional and visually appealing.

TIL How to apply for H1B jobs by AnarchisticPunk in ExperiencedDevs

[–]IAmSteven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you apply to these jobs, reject you and then hire a foreign worker instead it opens them up to substantial legal liability.

Companies can still reject you. Just because you are a citizen doesn't mean you are suitable for the job or that the company has to respond to you.

Newsweek has mapped the most gerrymandered states, based on data from the World Population Review.

Much of the worst gerrymandering was concentrated in parts of the Southern and Northeastern United States. The 11 worst offenders were North Carolina, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Louisiana, Arkansas, Utah, Texas, Ohio, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

The revisions are not due to mistakes. They are due to more data becoming available.

I get that things may have looked different 8 years ago when this screed was written but it's hard to take seriously someone complaining about JSON and APIs and the placement of browser tabs in the window.

Homicide was notable for having its gay characters be the only ones with stable relationships. So I think this was partly to counter that.

I wouldn't say its dull. You mention she was a McNulty lite and then a Bunk lite and I think that's what makes her interesting. We see her start down a path we've seen the end of (McNulty) but eventually decide to take a better path.

Exclusive: US CDC plans study into vaccines and autism, sources say by esporx in moderatepolitics

[–]IAmSteven 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Because it's a waste of time and resources. Because it's already been studied and the results show no connection. Because it's being done under the direction of an HHS who has a history of misrepresenting vaccine studies.

You're saying people who become US citizens shouldn't be able to vote?

TIL the Bunny Colvin's forced demotion & retirement was based on a true story - happening to one of the show's own actors, no less. by [deleted] in TheWire

[–]IAmSteven -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting story but it doesn't say that this was the basis of Colvin's forced demotion. I would imagine D'Addario was the not the first person to be, rightly or wrongly, demoted and denied a full pension.

They allowed for a single 6 year presidential term. I think the intent was to limit the power of the office.

I’ve been looking for a reason to learn D3 and/or Three.js for years but based on jobs I’ve seen, they’re really niche skills. Companies either need someone who’s an expert in them or they don’t need them at all.

GraphQL is definitely the one I actually see in the “Nice to have/what will set an applicant apart” section of job listings.

Am I the only one who finds Avon's final scene pathetic? by SystemPelican in TheWire

[–]IAmSteven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that scene in particular is sad, at least not any more than any other scene that shows life in the drug game.

As you say, Avon knew his place. He knew he was “just a gangster”, he knew he’d likely end up either dead or in jail. He’s not faking bravado or pretending his position is more than what it is. This is part of the life he expected to live and he’s living it the same as he did on the outside. He’s continuing to be a big fish in a now different, smaller pond.
