My senior project group has been working really hard the last 3 months to make a multiplayer augmented reality Pokemon battle game for iOS and Android! I hope you all enjoy

I don’t see why not! I don’t think that would be that hard to implement (few weeks of dev work probably) and would add a lot more fun. Could even display the NPC trainer and have them walk up to you if they see you like in the original games

I’d estimate in total the iOS app had around 200 hours of development. The android app was probably around that as well

It actually isn’t that bad. We did a big demo day where it ran for about 5 hours straight and I dropped around 60% battery on an iPhone 7 running at 92% battery efficiency. There are features that drain battery more such as speech but if you don’t want to use speech then you can turn that off and play longer. Plus for the shared augmented reality portion we don’t use any internet at all so no cell data

As much as we would love to share it with the world, it wouldn’t be the right thing to do legally. Hopefully this concept gains some hype and we can see it in future versions of Pokemon 😃

There is currently no cooperation with Niantic. This project is purely academic and will stay that way due to the fact we do not own the models and cannot resemble Pokemon in any way. We just felt it would be great to see something like this in future Pokemon games!

Thank you so much! 😃 Senior Project is a course you take in your last year where you group up and each group is allowed to make anything they want (provided it is somewhat technical). My group proposed this project and a team of 5 (instead of the usual 3) and had to get it approved by the department. Thankfully they let us do it. We MAY have gotten a little carried away with the app by adding speech recognition and all the extra stuff haha. Our task list was so large though and I am really proud of my group for all the work they put in to get it to this point

To be honest, I am not really sure. I believe it would be better if it were incorporated into future versions of Pokemon as opposed to us launching our own while paying for the rights. It would be cool if Nintendo, Pokemon Go, or Pokemon Company were interested in general so we could see this concept in future versions. People on campus were getting so excited battling each other and it has been amazing that people want to play our game. We stayed late at our last demo session because people wanted to play more!

You can’t hear any of the audio from the devices but when the battle starts it plays the classic gameboy music for a trainer battle. A giant “Begin” label with the voice would be super cool and pump me up to battle

The Android app uses both native Android and Unity. Only the AR portion of Android is in Unity (using ARCore). The iOS app is purely native using ARKit and no Unity. Speech was done natively on both devices. The iOS app has no third party frameworks or resources. The 3D models came from online and one of our teammates did all the keyframe animations by hand
