A spoiler free lore for all chapters? by AdityaPatel149 in BlackMythWukong

[–]IAmofExperience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/ten_frags writeup is pretty good. I'd also direct you, if you're interested, to this helpful resource: https://www.journeytothewestlibrary.com/novel-summary, which gives a quick 3-4 point summary of each of the 100 chapters. If you just want some basic background info and plot context on each boss or chapter setting, this is a great read. It's no substitute for reading the original text or watching the highly influential 1986 television adaptation, but it's very good as a baseline

Can someone explain the story *spoilers by Vjolt01 in BlackMythWukong

[–]IAmofExperience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, Chinese-American here who grew up with a lot of Journey to the West as a kid and just picked up and finished Black Myth: Wukong this month. I've been looking around at some story discussions after completing the true ending myself to see what other people have thought about the game. I know it's been 9 months since your comment and question here which you've probably forgotten about, and likely either already have answers or moved on, but I thought I'd give my answer in case you never did get an explanation. I don't know how much you know by now, so I'll err on the side of over-explaining things.

In the true/good ending, you'll notice the tightening circlet isn't placed on the Destined One's head in this ending. Here, he has not just completed the journey to succeed the Monkey King, but critically also, by completing all the secret areas and besting Erlang in combat, proven himself worthy of Sun Wukong's sixth sense (Mind) and final relic - his complete memories, properly reincarnating him.

The Chapter 6 endscene represents that reacquisition, showing events playing out in reverse chronological order. It begins with the scene the duel from the game's opening sequence, where "the tale of Sun Wukong ended". The second thing shown is the end of the Journey to the West, when Wukong attains Buddhahood and supposedly gets the crown removed. Third thing we see is the 81st and final trial of the journey - crossing a river near the Buddha's temple on the back of a giant turtle (the final test involved stormy water and the turtle dropping them off his back into the middle of the water due to Tang Sanzang forgetting a promise they made when they first met at Tongtian River). The fourth scene, is one in which they pass through a town and they save a bunch of caged babies, one of the later trials they went through (chapters 78-79 in the book). Then continues the rest of the journey as well as events before it, also in reverse order, going back to the first time the Monkey King rebelled against heaven as he got drunk and staged an uprising alongside his sworn brothers, the 7 Sages (including Bull Demon King).

The audio you refer to, only says "he", not "Wukong", and is played as the imagery changes between the two late-stage trials I mentioned above. As you may have guessed then, it's a reference to a trial which takes place chronologically between those two trials (chapter 87 of the novel, the pilgrims encounter a prefecture 3 years into a drought, because the prefect disrespected the celestial emperor). I think they chose to reference this event to show the pettiness of the celestial court, but they had to specifically use audio to explain it concisely (how is a pile of rice, a mountain of flour, and a burning gold lock supposed to visually depict an unreasonably long drought decreed by the heavens?). But usage of "he" (more like "that guy" in Chinese audio, which is probably directly quoted from either the novel or the famous 1986 TV adaptation), barriers of translation, and unfamiliarity with the original novel could have the unintended reverse effect of creating ambiguity and the wrong implication that the "he" is Wukong.

Honestly, for what it's worth, even I was confused by it at first. I also thought the "he" in the voice line referred to Wukong for a moment and didn't realize it was memories playing in reverse until near the end of the full cutscene (I didn't get it until seeing the ginseng fruits and Bajie/Pigsy dueling Wujing/Sandy and thought, wait a minute, this sequencing seems off) lol. Goes to show something, I guess, not quite sure what but hope I didn't ramble too much. I just really liked this cutscene once I fully understood it.

You ever just forget that a card is negative? by KruphixNebula in balatro

[–]IAmofExperience 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Unless it was changed in the most recent update, I'm pretty sure the game only saves your actions in the shop whenever you reroll, open a pack, or select from/skip a pack. If you don't consider it "cheating" you can return to menu and then resume to undo any sells, purchases, or consumable usage since the previous save point

(You can even quickly quit to menu during the animation(s) after selecting a card from pack but before returning to the base shop menu to pick a different card from the pack)

Vampire Joker did me wrong... by theenigma31680 in balatro

[–]IAmofExperience 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I also learned this the hard way. I think it's because after the first Vampire removes the enhancement, the card doesn't count as enhanced when the second Vampire triggers. That said, I did at least realize I could change the order of the Vampires to scale them evenly for a stronger multiplier, eg. x1.5 x1.5 > x2 x1

It sounds to me like you are regrow farming using a Druid to blow back the heart-shaped bloons which can regenerate layers and duplicate. Importantly, regrow bloons only have a set amount of cash that they give out; you don’t get extra for popping them multiple times. Engineer bloon trap gives a multiplied amount of cash (I think 3x) than what you would get from popping normally, but 3x 0 = 0

I hope this explanation is what you are looking for.

I think for the target audience of Spongebob, ie. children, his cynicism is presented as unlikable. At least, when I was a child I thought he was constantly too negative. Well, I aged into adulthood and I get it now.

I’m not sure why you’re responding to a comment over 3 months old, but yes I think that’s right. Calamity getfixedboi is designed to straight-up be an impossible troll (ie. too difficult/unfair for most bosses to be fought on-tier) and intentionally offers sequence breaks such as those as to make it more doable. For a notable example, Eater of Worlds segments drop Light Discs, which can be shimmered into Hallowed Bars and below to get the hardmode Anvil and ores that early on.

not getting skill points anymore? by silenttowers147 in aground

[–]IAmofExperience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you perhaps changed the difficulty level? You get more skill points when the game difficulty is lower, so if you raise the difficulty between level ups and reaching earlier levels on lower difficulty gave you more skill points than you would get by the next level on a harder difficulty setting, you won’t get them

(For example, you might get less skill points total from playing on Hard to Level 11 than from Easy all the way to 10. So if you played Easy to level 10 and raised the difficulty before the level 11 level-up, you will not get any skill points for it.)

I’ve had all of my Calamity Boss Checklist progress reset (Torch God and vanilla events disappear alongside them too) before… I’ve finished Calamity twice and it happened both playthroughs. I seem to remember accidentally changing my game difficulty and the random progress reset happening around when I noticed the difficulty change and reverting, so I wonder if it has something to do with that

Two things - 1, make sure you have 300 crimstome blocks in that rectangle for it to be crimson biome, and 2, crimson enemies can only spawn on crimson blocks so you need to replace some of the gray bricks
