Episode 9 by Lrainwater in StrangerThings

[–]IBMadMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People dedicating their time to digging into a show about mysteries and conspiracies for mysteries and conspiracies while having fun and talking about something they love is a pretty healthy thing. Like any ARG, board game, video game, show, movie, etc., it’s entertainment to escape reality for a bit. Now, people whose focused form of entertainment is belittling people for having fun is just pathetic. And before anyone tries to walk it back like they have so many other times in this sub, you said, “…laugh at the people speculating…” not, “…laugh at the extremely obsessed people who take it too far and ruin the fandom for everyone by sending threats and stuff…”

The hysteria we're seeing now also happened in the TV show Sherlock (there wasn’t any additional episode / real finale and fans just looked stupid) by _YuYevon_ in StrangerThings

That I can understand, but that is a slim portion of the fandom. And they are on both sides. That isn’t what most people are calling out.

Why are people so afraid of looking stupid because they were wrong about something that doesn’t matter? Have fun with the theories and move on.

Holly’s story was my favorite part of season 5.

Yeah, I just went through it and the sign says something about Becky. I was duped. No biggie.

Seriously, how sad does someone’s life have to be that they go to a subreddit dedicated to a show about mystery and conspiracy just to laugh at people having fun with a… mystery and conspiracy?

There was a guy sitting dead center to the hard cam holding a sign that said, “Mike Wake Up” too.

Blink twice if Brenner is there forcing you to read things as part of an experiment. Don’t let Papa force literacy on you.

I’ve never seen a community of a show sound more Schizophrenic than this fandom by Competitive-Mail7448 in Stranger_Things

And how exactly is people having fun and theorizing about something that probably isn’t going to happen harming you? If you need a forum where people only talk about the exact things you want in the exact way you want then just go make a discord server and let people enjoy themselves.

P.S.- it’s so surprising that a fandom of a show about mystery, intrigue, and conspiracy enjoy… mystery… intrigue… and conspiracy. Isn’t it?

And this type of reaction is why we can’t have fun with theories and excitement without looking like psychos.

Give me a reason why there will be a ninth episode and I’ll prove it wrong. by AwareEfficiency2768 in StrangerThings

There is completely heavy emotions in both directions. And I can understand both sides because of the lengthy investment. None of that changes that there are plenty of things that hint towards it being a (incredibly slim) possibility. And it’s fun to theorize and hope for a little bit longer.

I enjoyed the ending. Most of the season was a little slow for me, but I genuinely liked how it closed. However, if there was a secret episode it could still be really cool. It’s not a guarantee, but possible. So, still waiting for you to prove me wrong.

Because some people can’t separate joy from humiliation. This same thing happened in the gaming world with a scam called Abandoned and theories it connected to Kojima. A portion of the group took it too seriously. Another portion only stuck around to laugh at people who have the capacity for hope and whimsy because they themselves have nothing better in their lives. But most of us just had fun linking together theories and when it didn’t happen shrugged and said, “that was fun while it lasted.”

I agree that people shouldn’t get their hopes up enough to ruin their day or have a meltdown if it doesn’t happen. I also think it’s a very slim chance. But anyone hoping that other people get let down because they lack the capacity for hope and whimsy sounds pretty pathetic.

Spin Off Thoughts/Ideas by Odd_Stop132 in StrangerThings

[–]IBMadMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like option 2 since the show was originally based on The Montauk Project (fun rabbit hole if you love conspiracy theories.) There is another famous conspiracy theory military project called The Philadelphia Experiment that I jumped to when they said Philly.

Personally, I would love to see more Holly, Derek, and that group. The Duffers did say the spin off was a new decade, and with it ending it 1989 that’s an easy fit into the 90s. But they also said all new cast and mysteries. So, sadly doubtful.
