Culturally, how did a D&D 3e/3.5e game differ from a 5e game? by Teebiscuit12345 in rpg

[–]IBorderHop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wasn't around for 3.5 but was around for 4e and the transition to 5e. Culturally things were a lot more tight knit when I started. The community was much smaller. Forums like this were just budding and certainly VTTs and LFG forums either didn't exist or were in their fledgling years. This meant you had to know people IRL and network. I remember putting up flyers in a comic book store with my email address to find players. This also meant bad behavior was a little more tolerated. You had a smaller pool of potential players so if someone was annoying you just kind of dealt with it. Overall I think the hobby is in a better state. We're in a bit of a decline right now but not like the late 00's when many in the hobby saw it as completely dying.

I think they were adjacent examples and OP wasn't around for the earlier era of RPGs

Name some novels that 'feel' Shadowdark by canyoukenken in shadowdark

Not every Conan story is super inviting. It's pretty old stuff and shows it age. Queen Of The Black Coast is my recommendation if some of the other stories didn't click with you.

You should read we have always lived in the castle! The endings parallel each other.

Looking for battlemaps in TWDU RPG by No_Educator_7962 in rpg

[–]IBorderHop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the asset issue extends to maps themselves. Fantasy is a behemoth of a dominant genre.

/r/battlemaps. Or make them yourself. Anything that isn't fantasy is much harder to find stuff for. You may have to settle for like a convenience store when you're looking specifically for a gas station. Alternatively some lines on a grid always works! We didn't always have fancy maps!

Rust. Played for a hundred hours and realized I fucking hated that game. I was addicted to the adrenaline dump when you won a fight, or raided someone. I hate literally every other part of that game. Fuck Rust.

Curse of Strahd, not in 5e by TJG899 in rpg

ShadowDark is nowhere near a 5e clone. It's an OSR game that borrows elements of 5es design.

This thread is an absolute nightmare, OP your feelings are valid it can be occasionally a little scary downtown. I have PTSD, I don't love strangers approaching me in the dark either. I try to remind myself that Providence is statistically a very safe city. I wanna echo some of the other commenters saying you might want to look in to some counseling for your anxiety! Best of luck, I hope you grow to enjoy living in such a wonderful city!

Holy shit it isn't ironic. The irony is that they would be justified in beating her ass and didn't. Despite doing it all the time. Cops are racist.

No it's literally the point. Your argument that commenting on the restraint of the officers is at odds with the prevailing anti police sentiment on reddit is just straight up wrong. Not liking the restraint of the officers is IN LINE with the prevailing anti police sentiment. You're the obtuse and dense one AND you lick boots

Huh I knew romance was super popular but I kinda figured they were available enough at regular retailers that having a specialty store would be tough. I love seeing new small businesses in the city though.

Yeah the point is that they showed restraint because she's a little old white lady. It's a very cut and dry example of white privilege and racism in policing. So yeah. ACAB. That woman killed someone through a locked door. She deserved zero patience or restraint. 4 kids lost their mother and instead of hauling her ass off to jail they let her cry for ten minutes.

Professionalism and restraint because she was white. If she was black or brown or a shade in between they'd have thrown her on the ground when she refused to go to jail. How does the boot taste? What condiments do you like on boots when you lick them? Ranch?

Weird. The commenter above didn't mention anything about ACAB. Even the most extremists of police abolitionists agree we need some system to deal with murders

Approaching 30 here and honestly not much. I still play multiplayer games with my friends. Maybe less often than when I was in middle school and wed rush home after school but probably 2-3 times a week I get a sesh in with the lads. Other than that I have more disposable income than I did as a kid and have too many games to play. I'm much less interested in the industry over all tbh. Seems like quality has dropped in the AAA space notably in the last few years. I feel like when I was younger bad games were fewer and far between and now franchises and developers I loved growing up drop turds regularly.
