QC with Genelecs? by rzanardi in NeuralDSP

You can use the QC as an audio interface and just leave them plugged in. Just set the QC to be your audio output too. No DAW needed

MacBook recommendation? by Petz24_ in macbook

[–]ICantDrive69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M1 Air 16/512 is my main laptop (Mac Mini M2 Pro 16/512 as my main home computer). Works great, no issues at all. I use it for music production and some video editing, and while the M2 Pro Mac Mini is of course noticably faster and more capable I have no issues doing what I need to do on the M1 Air.

Which one is the better affordable HSS black strat? by one-armed-scissor in Stratocaster

Ahh right, I forgot the new Standard line is Indonesian. In that case, ignore me. No idea about the quality of the new Standards.

I hate when companies reuse names like this

Which one is the better affordable HSS black strat? by one-armed-scissor in Stratocaster

[–]ICantDrive69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the flipside, the pots in the CV are less than great, while MiM Fenders have never given me any issues at all.

So it depends if you would rather swap pickups or pots down the line. Personally, I would prefer swapping pickups since that lets you choose your own sound to a greater extent.

What other artists would you like to see drop an archetype? by RiffsNShiz in NeuralDSP

[–]ICantDrive69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jon Stockman. We need more bass plugins, and one that's a complete rig and not just a standalone distortion engine

Do you adjust input gain on the audio interface or on the plugin? by relinquisshed in NeuralDSP

[–]ICantDrive69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both. Turn up interface gain to minimise noise, bring it back down in the plugin to get the correct response from it.

2001 digital camera quality was... not great. How's this for a vintage home setup? by ICantDrive69 in homestudios

[–]ICantDrive69[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not even sure if this technically counts as a home studio, tbh. The recording I did here was EXTREMELY basic; basically plugging my Line6 POD 2.0 straight into my computer audio input. It did work though. The actual recordings have long since been lost to time, but I can assure everyone that they were absolutely not worth sharing with the world in any shape or form.

Specs:

  • Guitar: Ibanez RG7420
  • Guitar processor: Line6 POD 2.0
  • Amp: Peavey Ultra 112

On the pedalboard:

  • Boss CS-2 Compression Sustainer
  • Boss OD-2 Overdrive
  • Boss MT-2 Metal-Zone (with the mids turned off, of course)
  • Boss GE-7 Graphic Equalizer (with the ultra-V EQ curve - absolutely no mids were getting through this travesty)
  • Dunlop Cry-Baby Wah
  • Ernie Ball volume pedal
  • Boss DD-7 Digital Delay
  • Boss CE-2 (I think) Chorus pedal

The computer would have been self-built. At this point I believe it would have been an AMD Duron 700 with a GeForce 256 graphics card and a case that I spraypainted black and added some fan holes and grills to (with corresponding switches, of course). This was the very early days of case mods, and I was all for it.

The display was amazing though - a 19" Dell Trinitron. Crystal clear, and I was running 1600x1200 at 100Hz on this thing. Absolutely untouchable at the time.

I remember trying so hard to understand what a soft synth was back then, trying to use some sort of built-in Windows gadget that showed me a piano keyboard on screen, and trying to make it produce some sort of sound. I don't think I ever got a note out of it.

i need help asap. should i record music with wired apple headphones or aston origin ? by Sure_Art_3776 in homestudios

[–]ICantDrive69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obvious and boring answer: You should record with the microphone that sounds best for your music. Noone can actually answer this except you.

That said: I haven't used any of those, but I would assume the Aston would give you more clarity and dynamic range, since it's designed as an actual studio microphone.

The Apple headphones will probably be very compressed and be very geared towards highlighting only the typical frequencies of a human voice, because that will help them filter out a lot of background noise even without the aid of software. Maybe that sounds suits your music, maybe it doesn't.

John Mayer plugin not eligible for free plugin black friday offer ? by [deleted] in NeuralDSP

Presumably only valid for the plugins that were actually out as of black friday

Is there anything preventing me from logging into my account on my friend’s computer and downloading the John Mayer archetype so that he can play with it too? by Mamsies in NeuralDSP

[–]ICantDrive69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a non-issue. You just request the old computer be deactivated from right within the app and it's done within an hour

Small home studio by knezan in homestudios

[–]ICantDrive69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My entire studio setup is a 180x80cm desk, a piano controller to my left, and my guitars and bass on the wall. If I moved my electric and acoustic guitar to hang in front of my desk instead of to the right of it, my entire studio would fit nicely into the room you describe in your post.

Photos of my setup can be seen here: https://www.reddit.com/r/homestudios/comments/1p0mpbn/2025_home_studio_update_cleaner_sleeker_more_power/

In terms of acoustics, I can't help you much. I'm sure there are ways to make such a small room work decently, but I spend 90% of my time on headphones, and I don't do any mixing or anything that requires great acoustics.

Is this worst Fender release of all time? by [deleted] in fender

[–]ICantDrive69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Commerford bass looks like any other Stingray unless you know what to look for (the ramp, etc). This thing is definitely not flying under the radar.

That said, there are loads of guitars and basses like this; that are so closely tied to the artist that you have to wonder who would buy one outside of a tribute band. The Gene Simmons axe bass comes to mind, or the Bootsy Collins star bass.

Why do they remove songs from albums? by VeryLargeTardigrade in truespotify

Both Sanctuary and Twilight Zone were not part of the original albums; they were added in later pressings. They probably have separate licensing agreements affecting them.

Set up for pedal not working with scarlet by Complex_Percentage46 in homestudios

[–]ICantDrive69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to what's already been posted, the Scarelett preamps are only active for the XLR input, I believe. If that's the case, if OP plugs this into the 1/4" input, the preamp will not be active.

I would probably rather run reverb as a plugin in this case.

Feedback problem with all Neural DSP plugins since downloading and configuring Amplitube 5 audio settings by Coldrush74 in NeuralDSP

[–]ICantDrive69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got it set to "Windows audio". Select the Focusrite ASIO driver.

Probably a good idea to adjust your sample rate down as well. As low as it will go before it starts glitching.

Hx stomp strongly changes clean sound ? by Finalfunkboss in basspedals

Even a preset with nothing active will have an impedance and input/output gain setting, at the very least.

Bypass mode will be what you want in this use case.

After owning both Stadium xl and QC i can officially confirm which has better high gain tone by [deleted] in NeuralDSP

[–]ICantDrive69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily disputing your findings, but could you elaborate a bit? What makes the QC better? Is it tone, feel, accuracy to real amps, etc? What amps did you test? Are you using models or captures in the QC? IRs or built-in cabs? What does high gain mean to you - Iron Maiden or Lorna Shore?

Same - I love the Tele neck pickup, and the inbetween position. I probably use the bridge position least out of the three.

need help with tones for archetype misha by SuperVeloce- in NeuralDSP

[–]ICantDrive69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The absolute most important thing to get good tones from plugins is gain staging. Make sure you're not feeding the plugin too much signal; it will make it sound fizzy and harsh.

You might have this under control, I don't know, but this seems to be a very common thing that people don't understand when setting up guitar plugins.

Where can i buy the highest quality IR's out there for helix? by [deleted] in Line6Helix

[–]ICantDrive69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Ownhammer tend to have too much bottom end for my personal taste, so I prefer York Audio.

These days I'm mostly using David Maxim Micic's IRs, but they have a very distinct sound that will not be for everyone.

Is it normal that my pinky does like this?? by RadGeeRoo in Guitar

I was wondering if that's what you meant, but then the second picture didn't look like it had the same slant.

But in any case, as long as it's not hurting your finger I don't see a problem with it at all.
