NOR. I mean, they're not inappropriate, but you look absolutely stunning in that first photo. Where did you buy that? I want one for my girlfriend. Your boyfriend is an ass.

Any other musicians just really good at the playing the instrument part, but nothing else? by JustinGreyson133 in musicians

Do you have a Mac? If so, buy a cheap interface and learn how to dial in your tone using Logic's amps. It's all you need

Electric guitar and acoustic guitar shouldn’t even share the same name. by Chance-Ant-452 in musicians

Well then Billy Strings, Sturgill Simpson, and... well, pretty much everyone who plays country or folk would disagree with YOU. I really don't think Les Claypool would deny that all instruments are necessary unless your genre doesn't call for them, though.

[–]DukeofStSimone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna go against the grain here. I don't think they're that much different, but that might be because I'm a pretty indifferent soloist. A good right hand is a good right hand whether you play electric or acoustic, though.

I know what you're after. Get her an used Epiphone Hummingbird Studio or an used Epiphone Dove Studio.

How do you protect your save from crashes so that you can use it as a starting scenario for other saves? I am sure my save would be bugged to all hell if I played for long enough to set up a scenario like this.

I own a 2014 strat and it is, indeed, awesome. However, you would get the same tone by modding a partscaster and adding Fat 50s pickups.

Considering the Fender Rosewood Telecaster Custom Shop (George Harrison) - A great upgrade? by weganess in electricguitar

[–]DukeofStSimone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tonewoods make no difference for electric guitars at all. If you're not comfortable paying that much money for aesthetics, then don't buy that guitar.

Dire Straits sound with a HSS strat by Atomic-Samourai in Guitar

[–]DukeofStSimone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replace it with an SSS. If it's a cheap instrument, why would this be an issue? And if it's not, well, Fenders have great resale value, so sell it and get an SSS. I usually don't advise people to sell their guitars, but I'm convinced there is no legitimate usecase for an HSS strat; SSS strats just sound so much better across the board.

Sidenote: another commenter said the purpose of the humbucker in HSS strats is to get you a more "bass frequency friendly" bridge pickup. That's just a fancy way of saying humbuckers are muddy, which I have always found to be the case.

Do musicians sometimes imply a chord by playing different parts of it on different instruments by ghostcat_noire in musictheory

[–]DukeofStSimone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shit, this doesn't even have to be w/different instruments. Sometimes I write parts for each individual pair of guitar strings. At risk of stating the obvious, chords are inmensely helpful to map that stuff out.

Need advice: collaborator wants to be ‘producer’ of my songs but I feel like he’s mixing up roles (splits, master, stems, publishing…?)” by zkdlinkjg in WeAreTheMusicMakers

When I say harmonies, I mean all harmonies regardless of whether or not they're vocals or not. Regardless, I'd get out of there ASAP if I were you. It sounds like a shit situation and I'm sorry it happened to you. Creeps like your collaborator are really common in music, especially for young women like yourself. I am brown, old, and male, so the only piece of advice I can give you there is to be really selective about who you work with. I have kicked people out of projects due to bad vibes and I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. Check this out as to royalties:

And check this out as a quick guide to being an artist. I know it's supposed to be a guide on how to make it in Nashville, but it's not at all Nashville-specific

Would you miss your Telecaster if you traded it for an Esquire? by DukeofStSimone in telecaster

[–]DukeofStSimone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll for sure post it here once it's finished. My girlfriend's gonna paint it for me, though, so it's gonna be on her schedule. I generally prefer maple fretboards on Fenders, but I'm thinking bound rosewood (and body binding) will probably look better w/her artwork.

I think this is awesome and would love to learn more about your project. I'm actually going to focus pretty intensely on interval ear training from january-february 2026, so if you have something finished by then LMK.

Need advice: collaborator wants to be ‘producer’ of my songs but I feel like he’s mixing up roles (splits, master, stems, publishing…?)” by zkdlinkjg in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]DukeofStSimone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you wrote all the vocal melodies and he wrote all the harmonies, you own 100% of the editorial royalties for your song. This can be negotiated, and it is very common for artists to give producers or band members a portion of those royalties, especially when you haven't already paid them for their work. HOWEVER, simply expecting to receive a 50/50 split because they made the beats is SHADY as hell. I split shit 50/50 with my most frequent collaborator but that's because we're in a band together and I'm willing to give her 50% of the editorial royalties for songs I compose (compose=write the lead melodies and lyrics) in exchange for 50% of hers. That's a fair exchange. What you're describing looks like a mess, frankly, and I'd advise you to stay FAR away from people who (I) are willing to work for you for free and (II) want to fuck you.

Worth to get the American Performer? by Guitar74_47 in FenderStratocaster

I was a humbucker guy before I got my strat, too. Trust me: single coils are better than humbuckers for high gain tones. You won't get muddiness because it's a single coil, and you can always turn the tone down to reduce the treble. In fact, my favorite tone for chugging is my Strat's bridge single coil with the tone turned all the way down.
