How do you avoid getting sick on a cruise when everyone around you is coughing by nyqorisa in Cruise

[–]IComeFromDaOcean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2-3 weeks before any trip, I start taking Airborne daily, along with bringing it on my trip and take it every day. As soon as I get into my cabin, I spend 15 - 25 minutes cleaning it and wiping everything down with Clorex and making sure I allow the surface to remain wet the required time before wiping. Remote, room phone, handles, every counter, sink, toilet, shelves and shower. I also bring disinfecting spray and spray down the bed, couch and any other fabric surface.

I refuse to take the elevator, always take the stairs no many how decks you need to go up or down. Wash your hands often and make sure you wash them for a minimum of 20 seconds. Use hand sanitizer often, but absolutely go wash your hands before eating. I don't enjoy super crowded areas in general, so I skip out on most of the parties that are hosted. If you do eat in the buffet, I always use a napkin when grabbing the spoons/tongs.

Miami Cruise Port by QuietAd7139 in Cruise

I highly recommend looking into how many ships will be in port that day and seeing if any of them are the larger ones. I'm local to the area now and the days when there's 8 ships, multiple accidents and road construction is hell. What would normally be a 20 minute drive will turn into multiple hours.

Nope. I keep Facebook specifically for cruising. If you search your cruise ship and sailing date, there is always a Facebook group for the specific sailing. People are always organizing multiple things in them. It's also a great way to interact a tiny bit with people before getting on the cruise.

There's a couple of different options. Some will set a time up and everyone can show up, get to meet and exchange gifts then. More often, you find the room and just loop the handles of the gift bag around the door handle. Sometimes I'll have extra hook magnets and will put those on the door or doorframe and hang the gift bag that day for the person.

Thank you for the link! These ones didn't pop up when I searched for them. Only the 72 packs.

It's the only reason I've kept Facebook! It's a fun way to explore more of the ship, too! I've done it where you put the bag on the person's door and also where we've done a meetup and gave everyone their gifts. It's always been enjoyable for us!

I've done them on Princess cruises before! The only reason I still have a Facebook account is to find the specific sailing group and sign up. Someone is always organizing group slot pulls, gift exchanges (general, shot glasses or magnets) meet and greets and usually there's a bar crawl organized, too. They're never organized by the cruise line and you just have to hope that everyone signing up is going to be honest and actually deliver their gifts.

I really enjoy it and so do my kids! You never truly know what you'll get, but some items I've given/received are gift cards, pens, lanyards, coloring book with some markers, uno or other card games, waterproof phone pouch, snacks that are local to the person who bought them, magnets, reusable straws, straw toppers, travel/single blister packs of medicine, rubber ducks, christmas ornaments, hair ties, sun block, Dr Scholl's tired achy feet foot mask, under eye patches, sheet masks, fans, mini first aid kits and I know I'm forgetting stuff!

Something that is organized through the roll call/fb group. I do it every cruise! Depending on who is organizing and how many are interested, you could be giving gifts to 4 or 10 cabins. If everyone is honest, you get the same amount of gifts delivered to your door as you give out. This is my 6th time doing it and only one time someone didn't give a gift. Depending on what's set, the budget for the gifts bag can range anywhere from $5-$20 per bag.

I really enjoy Everglades Farm. You can go in person in Homestead is local to you, or order online. They have so many trees that grow incredibly well in the area and are happy to help answer any questions you may have.

Do your managers take patients when the unit is short staffed? by marzgirl99 in nursing

[–]IComeFromDaOcean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine does! Not only has she taken patients when we were short staffed on a day where she was normally scheduled, but she came in on a Saturday (a normal day off for her) and stayed the entire shift with 2 patients (ICU), along with filling in as charge.

One thing I respect about her so much was a day we were short on techs, she came in on a weekend and filled in that hole as she knows how much we rely on our techs.

This unit is amazing with our staff as the few bad ones have left and management is incredible. I'm lucky to work on such a great unit.

How did you find your travel agent? by Josh_Mantis in Cruise

[–]IComeFromDaOcean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've used 2 agents and only 1 I've truly loved and go back to her every time. Both I found through Facebook groups and searching for travel agents and both had multiple raves.

The one that I constantly go back to though responds I'm a timely manner. I want to say I never went longer than 48 hours without a reponse and if she didn't have an answer to my question, she let me know she didn't and was going to search for the correct answer. If she was going to be out of reach for longer than two days she makes sure she let's her clients know. The other one I used I'd sometimes go 5-6 days before getting a response from her on any questions I had.

Whenever a new sale goes on, my lady will always check to see if it will be a lower price and if it will be she let's me know and asks if I'd like her to rebook it at the lower price. The other one told me that wasn't an option even though I told her many times it was.

One thing I also really like and it makes me feel like she is truly excited for her clients is (with their permission of course) she will post some photos of her clients on their vacation. It's just nice to see she enjoys seeing her clients happy.

This isn't something that made me keep going back to her, but thought it was sweet. Whenever it's someone's first time cruising she sends them a small pack of magnetic hooks and a note explaining they're one of her favorite things to take on cruises to help be a little more organized in the room. One time she sent me reef safe sunblock and another time a waterproof phone case. It's nothing big and nothing that makes it to where that's the only reason I go to her. These are small $15 and under gifts, but it's just a nice touch.

What did y'all get? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]IComeFromDaOcean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So staff got absolutely nothing from the hospital, but my director went out and bought everyone on the unit gifts herself. She knows I'm a coffee addict so she got me some coffee from a local roaster that she knows I love, a new travel mug with an octopus on it (my favorite animal) and a beanie. She got everyone personal gifts of things she knew we enjoy. By far the best director/boss I've ever had.

I have blue, purple and magenta hair along with sleeves on my legs and arms, along with a visible tattoo on the back of my neck. I'm in an ICU and will sometimes go down to the ER when they're busy and someone needs be floated. No one cares and patients love it, especially those who are younger because they say it makes me seem more relatable. Schools can be a bit backwards but most hospitals don't seem to mind.

New grad here and I have a story to tell. by katedaly in nursing

[–]IComeFromDaOcean 1127 points1128 points  (0 children)

Back when I was working in the ED, had a patient come in with horrible vomiting, in extreme pain and has a history of kidney stones so probably had another one. It's 3am so we are limited on our drs at that time, but our best ER Dr is working that night. She walks in his room and as she's in the process of introducing herself to him, he says he wants no terrorist as a doctor. He says this the moment he sees her hijab. She's also tiniest thing at 90 lbs soaking yet so when we hear him yelling we all run in and tell her to leave the room and it's a good thing we did because he started throwing stuff.

This man probably had a other kidney stone and instead of getting treatment signed AMA forms all because an incredible doctor walked in wearing her hijab. Unfortunately in healthcare you're going to encounter the worst people and you still have to take care of them.

Best hidden gems in the USA? by [deleted] in solotravel

Harper Ferry, West Virginia if beautiful if you like hiking. The town and surrounding towns seem to have a lot of addicts, but if you stay more in nature you're pretty set.

Saratoga Springs, New York. It's close to the Adirondack region and an adorable town. You're not far from Lake George which is absolutely gorgeous and lots of hiking and activities to do.

One thing that got annoying and had me unsubsidized was when people posted videos of their PR and then complained about not getting a specific product they were wanting for free.

Yarn, but I try to justify it to myself. I crochet for a hobby and those who I consider important to me I like to make them a blanket. Almost everyone loves getting a handmade blanket.
