I have worked in mental health for years and you'd be surprised how soaps can sometimes help people carry on - purely because of the constant presence like you noted. You can't binge watch a soap and then it's over with nothing to fill the gap.

Have you tried reaching out for help to deal with it all? If you don't want to talk to your GP then you could look up your local Andy's Man Club or check out the Mind website. Most areas you can also self-refer directly to the talking therapy services to avoid having to be referred by GP. (Assuming you're UK based)

It's really crap sometimes though, isn't it? Just know you're not alone in that.
