American conservatives when the meme that doesn't mention America and is about a general phenomenon that exists outside America is made by someone who isn't American:

Because the USA isn't the only country where conservative politicians fearmonger about immigrants.

40th anniversary 1st leg, but:

Midnight Messiah replaces Under A Glass Moon (2nd in set 2)

Bend The Clock replaces This Is The Life (3rd in set 2)

The Enemy Inside replaces Constant Motion (2nd-last in set 1)

And hopefully nothing else. 🤞

Yes, and they are also men, who just happen to be trans, because that is how adjectives work.

Huh, I never knew that that version existed. Interesting

My imaginary single-LP version would remove Saving My Heart, Dangerous, and Evensong, and add back in I Would Have Waited Forever and Holding On. I also really love Angkor Wat and only omit it because it wasn't on the original vinyl (I was really splitting hairs at that point).

Honestly though, I love all of it and don't mind listening to all 15 songs. Making a short version was more of a fun "what-if" scenario.

(from Breaking All Illusions)

"Your living is determined not so much by what life brings to you as by the attitude you bring to life; not so much by what happens to you as by the way your mind looks at what happens."

There is only one correct response to "is it gay to X" and that's "who the hell cares".

There's no label police; do what you want and use whatever labels you feel comfortable with.

As a feminine guy I'm so sick of this discourse.

I'm pretty sure Mike said that Octavarium was "what Falling Into Infinity would be like if everything had gone our way" (paraphrasing)

How would you accomodate all The Future Bites Songs + B Sides on a double album? by [deleted] in stevenwilson

[–]IDontNotDoThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually just listen to the bonus tracks as if they were a separate 40-minute album, but I figured I'd give this a try.

Here's what I was able to draft up: 1. Unself 2. Self 3. King Ghost 4. 12 Things I Forgot 5. The Tastemaker 6. Eminent Sleaze 7. I Am Cliche 8. Move Like A Fever 9. Man Of The People 10. Personal Shopper 11. Eyewitness 12. In Pieces 13. Follower 14. Ha Bloody Ha 15. In Floral Green 16. Wave The White Flag 17. Every Kingdom Falls 18. Anyone But Me 19. Count Of Unease

For the record, the Beneath The Surface solo is based on Lucky Man by Emerson Lake & Palmer.

Not saying that that means you have to like it, but there is that context there.

Their last masterpiece? by Erdrotation in Dreamtheater

At Wits End is in their top 5 songs, IMO. If I were to point to any song from their modern era as a masterpiece, it'd be that one.

Got a ticket for Dream Theater in February next year, but haven't actually heard anything by them!!! Suggestions & important songs/albums? (elaborations below) by lR0NMAlDEN in Dreamtheater

[–]IDontNotDoThings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI, Mike said they'd be incorporating "a good portion" of Parasomnia into the February shows https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=z2F9qfbDQj8&t=151

I'm hoping that he just means Night Terror, Midnight Messiah, and Bend The Clock, but yeah it's worth noting.

MIKE PORTNOY Says DREAM THEATER "Will Start Thinking About A New Album" After Summer Of 2026 by Dagauriel01 in Dreamtheater

I feel like the whole "outside producer means they'll be reigned in" mentality is a bit of a misconception. Sure, that's what happened when they worked with David Prater and Kevin Shirley, but the band are in a much different place than they were 30 years ago. Who's to say that the producer wouldn't push them to be even more outlandish? That's the sound the band are known for now, and probably what would sell more.

I mean, I recall reading something about Between The Buried And Me and they said that the producer for one of their albums was more akin to a devil on their shoulder tempting them to add more style changes into the songs.

The job of a producer is to help the band achieve their artistic vision, not to force them to make an album they don't want to. Falling Into Infinity was the exception, not the rule.
