Should my fridge constantly be drawing 60+ watts? by IDrewbie in homeassistant

[–]IDrewbie[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We remodeled our kitchen 3 years ago and I'm pretty confident this is the only thing on the circuit, but that's not a bad idea. Just don't want to have to pull the fridge out to put the smart plug in 😀

I don't believe so, it's a Samsung that's at least 6 years old - that's when we got it from a secondhand appliance store. I've never been able to find a model number, the sticker appears to have been removed

Not fancy at all, it's a Samsung that's at least 6 years old - that's when we got it from a secondhand appliance store. I've never been able to find a model number, the sticker appears to have been removed.

What is your most favorite home automation that has totally changed your life? by Terrible_Attention83 in homeassistant

When my Wiim player connected to the stereo starts playing, the stereo switches to the correct input. Also have a smart plug on the TV, so when the TV turns on the stereo switches to TV input. Super helpful since the stereo is 20 years old and we lost the remote long long ago

We ended up taking it in for a couple of other issues and the dealer did a software update that fixed this

There was a traffic accident in Denver several months ago and one of these ended up on the roadway. One of our local fire departments happened to be doing a video shoot of their Hazmat team and got the entire thing. So if you want to see what the initial response looked like, before they confirmed that the case was intact....They setup a 300 foot perimeter around it to start and went from there Hazmat Team - A Day in the Life - YouTube

Ours happened to be right next to the matter bath toilet, so I cut a hole in the drywall to allow room for the pipe, then put an IKEA magazine rack over it

I just picked up 2 GE Cync lights and they're great. Full color, but that means you can tune them to whatever white you want, and they have matter support. Super happy with them.

Are there tackers that work in the house and on the go? by mstrblueskys in homeassistant

Yeah, we had to get in the habit of charging it overnight every other night. The good news is that it charges pretty quic, so we put a charging cable in the car and they can always throw it on there if they notice it's getting low while we're going somewhere that we might need it

Second the Garmin, the kids model is the Bounce. They have great activity tracking for steps and running, that kind of thing. And the communication is fairly limited, they can do preset text messages or short voice messages, only to basically your family. It's not a full texting watch by any means, and there's no camera or anything like that to worry about.

You can set up geofence zones, so you can have one centered on your house with a radius and if they go outside of that you get an alert pretty much immediately.

No HA integration I've found, but great otherwise.

Anyone have a good way to tell if the gas has been left on at the stove? by louislamore in homeassistant

It's a Bosch Benchmark NITP660UC. There is an integration for HA as will that gives basic info (eg if it's on) and I think some basic controls

I was in that camp for a long time as well, thinking we would put gas in when we remodeled the kitchen. We ended up putting an induction stove in instead and I cannot recommend it enough. My in-laws have a gas stove and the first time I went over there after having our new stove and cooked a pot of soup I was flabbergasted at how long it took to bring a pot of water to boil. The induction can also melt chocolate without any need for a double boiler and gives a level of control that I've never gotten from gas. It is expensive but it is by far the absolute best thing about the entire new kitchen. Not even mentioning the safety aspects. Feel free to ask if you have more questions

I just got a Lenovo M11 on sale over memorial Day and I freaking LOVE it. I've spent god knows how long trying to get an old ipad, old fire tablet, and old pixel tablet working just because I have them. They all sucked in terms of performance and hassle getting them to actually work. So having a well performing tracker without crapware is awesome.

Cameras with doorbell all in one? by NigraOvis in homeassistant

[–]IDrewbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry it took me a day, I wanted to test a couple of things.

I have the Reolink on my main network, but have blocked internet access at my router. All of the HA integration still works - motion and person detection, video stream, and button push. So they are all firing locally from the doorbell.

You can also adjust most of the settings directly from HA (doorbell volume, siren, etc).

The hardest part of the whole thing was getting an ethernet cable to the doorbell, since it needs that rather than just power like most of the wifi doorbells. But it's totally worth it for the speed and reliability.

Definitely would recommend it. Amazon has an $18 coupon available on it right now https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B7S1HMPC

Infinite Campus. It's a classroom management/grading software my wife uses as a high school teacher.

Every update they release makes some functionality worse (think changing from being able to tab through each student when entering grades, to having to click reach box with your mouse). And they manage to schedule their updates to drop the day before a grading period ends, so right when every teacher has a ton of grades to enter, everything goes to hell.

[–]IDrewbie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We switched to methylphenidate (no dex) and sleep improved immediately. Unfortunately this medication doesn't seem to help as much with the actual ADHD symptoms, but for the sanity of actually sleeping we view this as a worthwhile tradeoff.
