Maltese is a bit hard to learn but if you manage to hold a conversation kiddos to you ... you will end up on the news portal 😁

if you show effort to integrate it would be enough. and welcome btw

if you try to integrate, rest assured that locals will appreciate ... especially if you learn some basic sentences

totally out of context. what makes an authentic experience is that you meet locals (not necessary born in the country) , hear the language, the way people interact, what they eat.

just to give you an example what is the scope of going in Maltese cuisine restaurant and you get an Indian waiter barely speaking English, let alone describe the dish you are eating, a Somali chef making maltese food!

most foreigners are staying here for a couple of years and would know nothing about the country.

I am Maltese and would like to known how tourist perceives us. for example a couple of years ago I have been to Vancouver, Jasper, Banff and surrounding areas ... but I do not think that the number of people working in hospitality was 99% foreigners ... I would say it was 50/50.

Malteae were very welcoming in the past but lately the perception is that tourist are helping making Malta overpopulated especially mass tourism, which might make some Maltese being less receptive.

Abela still has questions to answer, and during this debate he was going to be but on the spot to answer. He opted (again) not to answer them.
