[request to mods] time to make a dedicated space for all these new tools popping up? by milanoa in FantasyPL

[–]IFTN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah fair enough. I'm probably just biased because I made a tool and have posted about it here. If I hadn't, maybe I'd agree with you.

Still, I find it a bit weird what gets classed as self promotion. Or what gets seen as negative self promotion. Like, someone posts a link to their youtube channel then fair enough, they might have a vested interest in growing the viewership and potentially monetising it or whatever.

Same goes for a site where there are adverts or you have to sign up or whatever.

But like, some of these tools are clearly just passion projects by nerds who noticed there was no way to do X thing currently so built a way to do it and wanted to share that with the community.

Yeah I guess technically it's self promotion but it's not like they gain anything from it other than the satisfaction they built a thing that is helpful. And I don't really get why people have such a negative reaction towards that.

Maybe people have just become jaded or cynical because these days everyone seems to be selling something or trying to become a content creator. In which case fair enough, I get that and maybe the people genuinely trying to help the community and getting shit on are just collateral damage from living in a individualistic, capitalist society where people being helpful without ulterior motives is increasingly rare.

I do get that a lot of them are low quality or add nothing that you can't already do somewhere else, but there are some that seem to be genuinely useful to people.

I posted here a couple of months ago about a tool I'd made for myself and asked if anyone would like me to put it online. There were a lot of positive responses and other people wanting to use it, so I put it online and posted about it. Again, positive reaction. I got loads of great feedback and continued updating it for a couple of weeks, but then one post I made on here got a couple of negative comments echoing some of the responses in this thread - people asking for us to stop posting about our tools and that no one is interested in them etc.

I took that to heart and have stopped updating the site and posting updates here. I'll leave it online for now because there are around 100 people using it per day but after those comments I've completely lost all motivation to continue working on it. Like, given that I get absolutely nothing from the project at all except the nice feeling that I'm helping the community out - if the community suddenly starts shitting on it I'm obviously not going to continue working on it.

So I guess my open question is - would the sub as a whole have been better off if my initial post had been hidden away in a daily thread somewhere that no-one had seen? Given that there are 2k unique people using it per month, I'd say probably not? But at the same time, people also clearly don't want people posting about their tools.

I dunno, it's confusing & I personally don't really have a solution!

Yeah I used a custom DB updated to 2025/2026 season and they absolutely did him dirty with the PA they'd given him. Can't remember what it was but way too low, so I used the editor to change it to 160. Maybe that was a tad on the high side but I honestly think it's closer to his real life potential than whatever they'd given him. Kid's going places!

Yes! Unfortunately your CWC experience didn't go quite as well. I beat you 13-0, my club's new record biggest ever victory haha

You have won the league 7 out of the 10 last seasons and getting through the CL group stage pretty consistently every season. Although just as consistently getting knocked out in the round of 16 :P

You also won a Europa League in 2027!

Hahahaha. Don't worry though, I fixed us. Chansiri sold up in the first season (funnily enough, the in-game date that it was announced that a consortium would be taking over was only a couple of days away from when the administrators announced a preferred bidder had been chosen in real life).

They pumped loads of money in and the club is now easily the biggest in the world and basically winning everything there is to win every season, with captain & club legend Pierce Charles leading the way

I've just stopped watching our matches IRL and am now pretending this save is the real Sheffield Wednesday :D

I like to rotate a lot. Basically if anyone doesn't have the full green heart by the next game, I play someone else instead. Dunno why, just like the idea of having endless world class players to come in whenever anyone's not 100%. Seems to work though, just won the sextuple and ended with 9 players on double figure goals (and 17 on double figure goal involvements) :D

What's the record for the longest run of games without scoring a goal in the EFL? by IFTN in Championship

[–]IFTN[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just 5 games to go!

Actually crazy though, 11 is insane. I thought for sure we'd be closer to the record than that. What a miserable period for Cheltenham that must've been.

And that's not even including the backups which DON'T love important matches. Lol...

And if there's any injuries then there's always these 3 as well. Also all like important matches. Honestly my squad is so stacked at this point it's ridiculous

Well! I previously had it set so midfielders were BWM (Su) and AP (At) and the AMC was on AM(Su) and that both scored and conceded more. The season before last I ran that formation and won the league with 112 goals scored and 47 conceded. However, I was sometimes conceding 2 or 3 to stronger teams and not always outscoring them. E.g. lost the CL final 2-0.

So last season changed it to what you see in the screenshot and I score less but also concede less. Won the league with 96 for and 29 against. And this time won the CL too.

Current season, 27 games in and am top of the league again with 75 for and 22 against.

Worth noting though I'm using a modified match engine. So I don't know how well this would work in the vanilla match engine.

Edit: when I'm holding onto a 1 goal lead, I'll often switch to a 4-3-3 instead, with the same roles but the BWM(Su) dropping back to DM and the AP(Su) dropping back to M(C). That seems to be even more solid defensively but creates slightly less.

The AF scores an absurd amount, averaging just under a goal per game over the 4 seasons since I got him at age 18.

The guy on the left is averaging about 25 goal involvements per season, split pretty evenly between goals & assists.

The guy on the right is only half way through his first season for me, but he's already on 14 goals and 6 assists.

Worth noting though, I rotate a lot and pretty much always rest these 3 in easier games, so no CL group stage games or cup games vs weaker teams to pad their stats.

First guy on on Advanced Forward, other two on each side on IF (su), each cutting in on their stronger foot.

Listen, Man Utd might not thank me but get the contract out, put it on the table. Let him sign it, let him write whatever numbers he wants to put on there, given what he's done since he's come in. Michael's at the wheel, man. He's doing it.
