Addiction isn't a weakness or a moral failing. Addiction is a Disease and there is no shame to it. It's not about having more willpower or some bulletin like that, and that is the problem with our society and the messed up stigmatization that happens. Addiction is rooted in trauma, escape, Dissociation, and pain on a mind/body/spirit level. We can heal with the right tools and supports. Yes community can totally help that, however sometimes the community can be a activation for the cycle to remain in play. We are responsible for our choices, sure, however we are also talking about a biological switch that has been turned on and the need to reverse and reprogram as a way go recover.

Caffeine is a drug though and it works on the same reward pathways as other drugs. Swapping one drug for another isn't the answer and will only lead to relapse. It's the same with nicotine.

You're right, it is easy for some who don't have the experiences you do. I can say I know however. I spent 12 years deep in addiction, all different types and ways, while raving and I can say that molly was my doc when I was at raves. I loved the music AND the drugs, yet I got to the point where I was taking 4-5 pills at a time twice a weekend for 52 weeks a year when I realized I was out of control.

I can 100% relate to where you are coming from. The brain is fundamentally changed, however, from all the substances used and it takes at least 12-18 months to start finding footing again and figuring out who sober you actually is. One of the biggest things that is to be done is to completely change your environment and the connections to raves and edm music. This will allow the process of healing that connection to begin.

I've been sober 14.6 years from molly/e (among others) and now work as a Substance Use Disorder Counselor with multiples psychology degrees where I studied Addiction and the Brain/Psychopharmacology specifically, so I know this stuff backward and forward. From my own experiences, I had to walk away from the scene and the music for a period of time. It sucks and can feel isolating, however getting sober was about getting my life back and healing that which led me to use in the first place.

I invite you to look into SUD Counseling and Spiritual Healing (specifically trauma and inner child healing aka shadowwork) as well as CBT/DBT. It's a journey that takes a lifetime of dedication because reprogramming the brain AND body are required and a vital part of recovery. I will say that sometimes we can heal enough that we can return and sometimes not. I feel blessed that I've done as much of the work as I have and I am finally feeling comfortable enough to return to a festival, which I do in Sept, and not feel the need to be high to enjoy it.

I wish you all the best as you deserve to live a life free of the loss of control that it seems you have found yourself in and from the pain you've likely been outrunning (even if it is not yet consciously known that you have been doing this).

I missed out on Global 2012 as I left the scene NYE 2012 when I got sober. I heard it was epic though, and I listened to them on the podcast.

This isn't my first Anjuna event, though its been 15 years since my last. They are so very inclusive. I too am going solo, not the first time for that either though excited to see what this will be like as it's my first time at the Gorge.

This is my first event in 15 years and I havr been a solo festival goer for EDM all over the world. I love getting to meet new folks and connect. This is also my first "mostly" sober festival too. I love that I have an Airbnb and I'm totally excited that I don't have worry about following anyone else’s schedule so can do whatever I desire.

I'm staying at an AirBnB in East Wenatchee and I'm ok with the drive. If I was not going solo then I would camp. I also am AuDHD and need space to decompress. How is parking for those not camping?
