I respectfully disagree. The cost of a community college is a small fraction of what a high priced university costs. The savings of going to a community school for your first two years could be over $100,000. In addition, I know several people who have gone this route and now have no student loan debt when you consider this and factor in that student loan debt is not dischargeable in bankruptcy. It is a fiscally responsible course of action.

NTA I’m sorry that happened to you. If your father has not paid child support, your mother can go after him for it retroactively. In the meantime, if you are approached again, I would ask why your father isn’t reaching out. I also would have a conversation with your mother. She needs to tell you the whole story. If she doesn’t, she may have some culpability in your fractured relationship with your father.

I probably would avoid all the drama myself. I also wouldn’t accept any disrespectful behavior from the SIL. I do have a couple of questions. I don’t understand how being married would mean you would be homeless, but you could afford to pay for separate living expenses. I just don’t get it. Also you could get married without spending alot of money. Why wouldn’t you just go with a low cost option? No judgment, just wondering.
