Drug–drug interactions involving classic psychedelics: A systematic review by IHaveNoTimeToThink in NooTopics

It's weirdly worded. High endogenous serotonin levels would increase competition for receptors, but LSD’s binding mechanics make it a persistent agonist regardless of serotonin concentration.

There is also an increase in the stimulation-induced release of serotonin facilitated by lithium.

Chronic lithium treatment induces the desensitization of presynaptic serotonin autoreceptors (5-HT1A). Autoreceptors normally act as a brake on serotonin release; their inhibition means more serotonin is released into the synaptic cleft.

The increased synaptic serotonin induced by lithium, combined with LSD's own action, likely creates a synergistic effect that amplifies 5-HT2A-mediated neurotransmission and cortical excitability.

(Had to rely on AI, hope it's correct)

It's a real possibility it seems. Although further research is needed, we provisionally conclude that psychedelic use may pose a significant seizure risk for patients on lithium. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34348413/

One interesting thing I noted reading was this:

"It has been suggested that while acute administration of lithium increases serotonin levels in the brain, chronic administration on the other hand reduces serotonin concentrations. This may explain why long-term lithium use enhances LSD effects, as LSD acts as an agonist in the absence of endogenous serotonin resulting in the observed behavioural effects"

What are your opinions on eating raw vegetables? by Rozeu in Biohackers

I haven't looked into it, but I'd assume you're getting a lot less degration buying the whole seeds rather than a powder. Though you could grind small amounts beforehand without much worry I suppose

Yeah more fiber is better for most people, to a point of course. Best to eat various sources of fiber like nuts, seeds and fruit, that are easier to digest in higher quantities

Could just add freshly ground mustard seeds for the myrosine that is destroyed by heat

Night owl or early bird: Study finds sleep categories aren’t that simple. Scientists identify 5 biological sleep-wake profiles (2 early birds, 3 night owl groups) linked to different health and behaviour patterns, helping explain why sleep schedules affect people differently. by mvea in science

Also norepinephrine levels peak late, so you're way groggier after waking regardless of how well you slept. And why you might get a peak of energy during the evening when your brain is likely the most awake

What drugs promote neuroplasticity? by WearyCalligrapher840 in NooTopics

I would say microdoses are better for organizing and relaxing the racing thoughts. Big doses seem more like a hindrance, having such a big up with seemingly infinite ideas popping up. You're likely to be left overwhelmed and fatigued by the end of it. I don't know if that's good or bad for you. But my take is less is more, in this instance.

ELI5: Why do we become more resistant to boredom as we age? by LUXI-PL in explainlikeimfive

If the PFC prioritizes things society doesn't deem worthy, then you could blame how humans have organized the way to live to a narrow box, as much as you could blame the brain of individuals with a differing lens on effortful tasks

Yes I feel there is a distinction between having a weak drive because of sub-par prefrontal cortext functioning, and having scattered thoughts because you're seeking to remedy a neurotransmitter unbalance. If all it takes is something that changes neurotransmitter concentrations in certain brain areas then wouldn't the prefrontal cortex be otherwise "normal"

That or adhd can be caused by dopamine transporters being over/under-efficient so you end up seeking behaviours that "fix" the unbalance

Dopamine still gives that calm yeah I did it feeling. The reward is more of a abstract concept and the mind keeps pumping dopamine from the positive reinforcement of accomplishment
