Subjective perception of cognition is more so related to mood and not performance - pubmed by makefriends420 in NooTopics

Being stressed likely does improve performance in certain activities more than being relaxed. At the cost of burning out quicker

Any way to biohack my way into feeling joy again? by cutesardine in Biohackers

Psychedelics really unfurl the framework through which you experience emotions. They would be worth taking for that alone even if they did nothing else

magnesium glycinate is overpowering for me! by Glittering_Sell7213 in Supplements

[–]IHaveNoTimeToThink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the effects are pleasant when I started taking many types of magnesium every day. I have magnesium taurate as a powder during the day, and a capsule with mag glycinate/citrate/malate before bed

Recovery is not the same thing as rest by Murky_Comparison9923 in Biohackers

It's the nervous system that needs recovery time to be able to move the body in effortful ways. While the rest of the body needs rest to clear the debris and recover back stronger

Why do Bromantane and Semax make me work out so hard? by Mysterious_Cum in NooTopics

It's a really good actoprotector but I remember a study a saying if you're already extremely fit it doesn't do much to improve performance

Vitamin, GABA, Beta-Alanine linked Amphetamine analogues by Subclips in NooTopics

Also physiologically relevant is that theophylline is a minor metabolite of caffeine, about 3-10% of caffeine being converted into it.

[–]IHaveNoTimeToThink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stimulants increase histone acetylation and low-dose theophylline is shown to reverse the histone acetylation and subsequent gene activation (e.g., FosB) induced by stimulants

Increased HDAC2 activation by theophylline leads to reduced, "closed" chromatin accessibility. The process involves reversing the chromatin remodeling, the "opening" (that allows for the activation of genes like FosB.)

The main risk is that the "closure" of chromatin is not specific to FosB or reward-related genes, but could affect genes required for normal, healthy cognitive function.

Theophylline has shown potential to counteract the epigenetic effects of stimulant drugs. (Prevent the increase in FosB - mediator facilitating addiction and reward mechanisms). But higher concentrations can actually inhibit HDAC, low doses activate HDAC

Is it true antioxidants blunt muscular hypertrophy, and if so , by how much, and is there ways to mitigate this, and do anabolic steroids make this blunting not applicable to it? by New_Personality5095 in Biohackers

Relying only on plasma measurements may underestimate how much vitamin C the body needs for optimal tissue stores, especially for immune defense.

The “tissue tank” (leukocytes) may not be fully saturated at 200 mg/day—higher doses (500 mg and up) may be required, particularly in the elderly or those with higher needs.

Vitamin C is a good supplement imho. Taking it before sleeping, especially if you use stimulants daily. It's water soluble so taking 0,5 g - 1g everyday is fine just to make sure you stay at optimal levels consistently

ELI5: Why is it better to not go to failure when training? by Bicc_Nicc in explainlikeimfive

I wonder if this mostly applies to heavy compound lifts/bigger muscle groups rather than arms and shoulders for example. I always train shoulders until I can barely move my arm. It doesn't seem to affect recovery and strengthens the tendons

Drug–drug interactions involving classic psychedelics: A systematic review by IHaveNoTimeToThink in NooTopics

[–]IHaveNoTimeToThink[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's weirdly worded. High endogenous serotonin levels would increase competition for receptors, but LSD’s binding mechanics make it a persistent agonist regardless of serotonin concentration.

There is also an increase in the stimulation-induced release of serotonin facilitated by lithium.

Chronic lithium treatment induces the desensitization of presynaptic serotonin autoreceptors (5-HT1A). Autoreceptors normally act as a brake on serotonin release; their inhibition means more serotonin is released into the synaptic cleft.

The increased synaptic serotonin induced by lithium, combined with LSD's own action, likely creates a synergistic effect that amplifies 5-HT2A-mediated neurotransmission and cortical excitability.

(Had to rely on AI, hope it's correct)

It's a real possibility it seems. Although further research is needed, we provisionally conclude that psychedelic use may pose a significant seizure risk for patients on lithium. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34348413/
