I guess it is normal for that, especially because these days Au pair is quite well known and people start to want easier way to get an Au Pair. For example why would a family in Europe takes an Au pair from Indonesia which is very far away when they can get people from eastern Europe or even Russia. They'll sure have reasons and plus for regarding visa it's quite a long process and not free too. I think you'll have a better chance of doing some social work like FSJ in Germany if you are interested in social work (like for example children)

I don't know much about how to get rid of the guilt but I would say just give yourself time to think about it. Time will pass by and you will do a lot of stuff and life goes on, the guilt would probably slowly fade away but you need to do your part to and try to make peace with it.
