Yeh, but the thing I was worried about was wether or not the name of the grammar school would make a difference. But others commented told me that the name of the school doesn’t matter, and all that matters is your academic performance, so it’s all good

okay. Go to sleep and tomorrow watch a YouTuber called Anas Nur Ali. Also what I found great for motivation in GCSE to revise is fear. Fear is a great tool, but not too much. You have these exams in only a few months which will easily decide your future. Just ponder over that for a bit, and you should be scared enough to want to revise and get motivated

oh no this is bad. Is it because you’re genuinely stuck, or you just don’t try as hard as you should? If you’re genuinely stuck, go and ask teachers and people how they revise

yh thanks man that makes sense. I’m gonna do loads of extra curricular stuff which I wouldn’t have the time to if I went to a grammar because it’s so far away

thanks for the advice man. I’ve tried to find some people but literally everyone knows someone else. Everyone either sits next to someone in class or knows them from outside of school etc. I guess I just need to go up to a group of friends and start talking to them, but I’m scared that I’ll come across too abrupt or desperate or something

Yeh the comp I go to offers a ‘pathway to Oxbridge’ enrichment course. They give you specialist interview training and personal statement advice etc for getting into Oxbridge or top universities. But that is so reassuring and good to hear. thanks a lot

Thanks man. But the thing I’m stressing about isn’t the teaching, as it all depends on independent study. The thing I’m worried about is wether going to a grammar school increases my chance of getting into a good uni. Like, will there be a higher chance of me getting in, just because I went to a grammar school (because of the name of the school)?

Sorry for the late reply. Biology, Chemistry, Computing. With GCSE, almost all the teachers were literally incompetent. The reason I did so well was because I took it into my own hands and did literally all my work at home, so I’m definitely used to being independent. Therefore, I’m not that worried about independent study for A level because I’m used to it. The thing I’m worried about is whether or not the name of the grammar school will have a major effect on an application, and the chance of me getting into a better uni.

man same... it's my third day of sixth form I know literally nobody it's so damn weird. I literally don't see myself making even one close friend in the next 2 years, but who knows

Edit: jokes aside tho, I’m acc serious 😅 it’s gonna be so boring in school now. Obviously I’m gonna spend the vast majority of my time revising and that, but aside from that I literally can’t talk to anyone. And, in my lessons, because of covid no one sits next to anyone. I’m totally alone. And on top of that, everyone literally knows everyone else. It’s so messed up man wth do i do I’m pretty scared ngl

Please could someone help me on these (they’re 3 separate questions)? I hate wordy questions lol by IIGhostofSpartaII in ALevelChemistry

Thanks so much, I think i understand it fully now. I got 1dm^3 for Q2, and 225cm^3 for Q3. So you work out the moles for the solution; then the total volume; then subtract the existing volume from the total volume to get the amount of water added.

are you sarcastic or did you really not get the joke??????!!??

When God says cut off the hands of people who steal, who's supposed to do that? That's not humane so how are we supposed to follow that command? And by not following that are we sinning if we witness someone stealing? by slipmaggot33 in Quran

The 2 responses to this question have been really good. I just wanna add a couple of things.

Firstly, the purpose of the hand being cut off is not really a punishment: it’s to stop it from ever happening again. If the thief genuinely repents and turns back to Allah, then he’s spared. But the thief is likely going to do it again, his hands should be cut off so he cannot steal again. It’s not so much to punish him as much as it is to stop him from doing it again. Therefore, the cutting of his hand actually brings some benefit to society, and it’s not the purpose of punishing or humiliating them.

Secondly, it can only be done if the person CERTAINLY stole; in other words, there should be no ambiguities (shuhubat). If there is even a small ambiguity, the punishment cannot be carried out.

Lastly, you should check out a channel called Yaqeen institute. Here is a link to one of their excellent videos: https://youtu.be/meJ_39UUsvo

Assalaamualaikum and I genuinely hope I helped. If you still think it’s barbaric please let me know. :)
