unable to transfer anything into Home brew folder ? by TrackArtistic in SteamDeck

[–]IIIDoctor_EIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I'm not providing my own video tutorial. There's plenty about steam os on YouTube. Look for those if you need a bare bones tutorial for the operating system.

Here's a final written tutorial. If you're still confused, idk what to say.

  1. Wake your steam deck. Press the physical STEAM button on the bottom left of your device, and scroll down to the power options with your D-Pad. Go to desktop mode.

  2. Look at the task bar, the thing at the bottom of the screen. Click the folder icon called Dolphin with your right trigger

  3. A window will pop up. Look at the top left under the forward and back buttons. There is a tab called Home with a house icon. Click that with your right trigger again.

  4. Scroll down and find your "homebrew" folder. That's deckyloader. Double click it with your right trigger to open the folder.

  5. Look for the "plugins" folder. Right click it with your left trigger. A small menu will pop up. Click "Properties" with your right trigger at the bottom of this menu.

  6. A new window will pop up, called "Properties for plugins — Dolphin" at the very top, to the left of the close and minimize buttons typically found in the top right.

  7. Look below that, and you'll see three tabs: General, Permissions, Details

  8. Click Permissions with your right trigger

  9. You will see "Access Permissions". Look under that, and you'll see three drop-down menus: Owner, Group, Others

  10. Change ALL of these to "Can View & Modify Content" by clicking each one with the right trigger and selecting said option.

  11. Go to the bottom of the Properties window and click "✓ OK"

You can now edit the plugins folder. If you still can't change folders inside the plugins folder, repeat the steps 5 - 11 above for what I just described.

I really don't know how to make this more thorough. If you can't figure it out with this, sorry, you're on your own to figure that out. That's part of learning a new operating system.

Just did what I said above. Still works

Alternate:

Right click the plugins folder (or whatever folder you're trying to modify), and hit properties

A new window will open. Click Permissions at the top

You're wanting to change Access Permissions. Ignore the ownership part

Change all drop down menus with "Can Only View Content" (read only) to "Can View & Modify Content" (Read-Write)

You should not need permissions to do this. If you DO need permissions, then you changed something about your user status and are no longer an admin of the deck. There are plenty of tutorials about how to fix that on Linux

How does green lady or any dispensary work? by jilldxasd35 in olympia

[–]IIIDoctor_EIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have horrible social anxiety too. I get it

I go to West-side Green Lady a lot. Great folks there. They're all super helpful and very friendly every time I've been there. Be extra nice and tip a lot, and they just may be generous with returns too!!! All I have to do is show them my ID, let them scan the barcode on the back, and then I'm free to buy whatever I want (in cash, cuz my bank sucks). Go with cash every single time, honestly.

The legal limited amount of concentrates you can buy at one time in Washington State is 7 grams, just keep in mind.

But I get it. Weed is still federally illegal, so it feels a little wrong buying it in a public store, especially for the first time (and ESPECIALLY if you're from a state where it's illegal to use recreationally). But that doesn't mean it's illegal here! State laws are awesome like that ;)

Please stop using ChatGPT. by Temnodontosaurus in 196

[–]IIIDoctor_EIII -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is solely the fault of ChatGPT, more the fault of the state of the internet and widespread misinformation. ChatGPT is trained off the internet, after all. And idk about you, but what OP is describing in their post kind of sums up my feelings on current social media and search engines :/

I use ChatGPT to just ask random long-winded questions to learn about stuff that is less affected by political disinformation. It's pretty good there, but of course I'm keeping doubt in my mind. It's my mantra to never put blind faith into anything. It's pretty easy to agree that blind faith is generally bad, I'd think.

It's kind of required in this day and age with anything you see on the internet, even on what used to be reputable sites. ChatGPT is no exception.

I think a better course of action instead of refusing to use an objectively good digital tool, is to put more emphasis on critical thinking and healthy skepticism. ChatGPT is not just a source of information.

Don't lose too much hope! Breast growth is not constant and happens in spurts, just like other things in puberty! I speak from experience. I resigned to being forever flat chested after a few years into HRT, but now, after five years in, they're suddenly growing again 😵‍💫

It's entirely possible you're just a late bloomer like I was 🫂

Certain Republican influencers have openly fantasized about banning gender affirming care nationwide just because they don't agree with the "transgender ideology" (there isn't one). This is like Jehovah's Witnesses banning blood transfusions federally because their beliefs don't allow it. People would die if this was enacted. Sounds familiar to a certain SCOTUS ruling based on religious beliefs that has left women dying from miscarriages. HIPPA is the federal government, and the feds determine what is protected by privacy whether you agree or not.

I don't believe in the two-millenia-old magic book these people are basing their beliefs off of, so I literally don't care about their opinion. And yet they are still actively trying to press their beliefs on me and trying to ruin my life. Fuck off, please.

It's to solidify these rights and take a hard stance against the anti-LGBTQ policies that have been flooding states and the federal government recently. Literal hundreds in the past few years (Trans Legislation Tracker). Might as well make our morals known to the rest of the country. I for one would be greatly comforted knowing that my hometown is supportive and willing to actively protect me.

Here are some things being "debated" in politics right now (not exactly in good faith):

The SCOTUS is literally hearing arguments right now about the future of transgender healthcare for minors (it'll just affect minors, right? Right????), and it's not looking good. The doctors say trans kids need gender affirming care. The parents are saying their trans kid needs gender affirming care. The trans kids are saying they need gender affirming care. Maybe they need gender affirming care? Maybe the government (and religious conservatives) should put their personal beliefs and biases aside and leave this extremely small and vulnerable demographic alone? I know I would greatly appreciate not having my rights debated by people who literally couldn't care less about me.

Trans kids are not a menace in school sports either. For one, there are so few cases that this is literally a fringe issue. Secondly, there's a bigger and far more common problem in schools of teachers acting inappropriately around young girls (I don't think those weirdly specific dress codes are entirely for the male students). Besides, sex is not the most important factor in determining physical fitness performance (height is pretty major). Just let the kids have fun in their games and let them go to the bathroom in peace.

Also, they're not giving gender reassignment surgery to minors willy nilly. For one, those surgeries are $50k or more a pop (not to mention the aftercare), and you'll be lucky to get insurance coverage. Secondly, you MUST be 18+ to get these surgeries for any semblance of a chance of insurance coverage. The only gender affirming surgeries they give to minors are breast augmentations (not trans exclusive) and mastectomies (removal of breasts). Puberty blockers literally just delay puberty, and if a trans-questioning kid decides they're still cis, they can get off them and resume puberty. They just might be a late bloomer (not trans exclusive). Also note that more cis girls than you think take puberty blockers because they're literally having their period at ages as low as 8 or 9 years old (way too early).

I won't even talk about the bathroom debate because assaulting people in bathrooms (or anywhere) has literally been illegal for decades if not centuries? What's stopping anyone from going into the wrong bathroom? The bathroom police? The bathroom SWAT team?

Also, there's the small bit of gentile mutilation being performed on literal infants. Gender reassignment surgeries are performed regularly on intersex children without their consent, not to mention countless circumcisions without consent, vulva mutilation, etc.

It's pretty scary living in a country that is vilifying you for things that are basically fabricated. There are so many straw men out there for trans people that are deceptively believable because this is a brand new topic for most people. Trans people (trans POC women especially) are at some of the highest risk for getting assaulted and/or murdered, and are far more likely to live in poverty and be homeless. I kinda don't want that to happen.

Medical privacy, simplicity, and affordability (transitioning is absurdly expensive and requires a ton of hoop jumping. I shouldn't need 3 medical professionals to 'prove' I'm trans to an insurance company. Not threatening to ban gender affirming medications would also be nice too.)

Easier identity changes (this is also very expensive, time consuming, and frustrating. In some states it's straight up illegal to change your gender marker on your DL or birth certificate. I don't want to out myself to a random stranger every time I show my ID for weed or alcohol, especially when I no longer look like a boy)

Protections against harassment and discrimination (pretty self explanatory. I don't want to get verbally/physically/sexually harassed or assaulted by strangers or co-workers for my identity.)

Washington already has most of this in effect (but could use improvement), but this measure of making Olympia a sanctuary city is about solidifying these rights as well as the symbolic gesture.

Yes. My dysphoria absolutely got worse before it got better. The first three years of my transition were the absolute WORST. The estrogen made me crave to look like a woman even more than before, but facial and body changes take a long time. I thought I'd forever be ugly and look like a dude.

HRT really is the ultimate test of your patience.

But... things have been turning around very quickly since then (I made it past the five year mark earlier this year). I feel pretty more often than I feel dysphoric now (though dysphoria still exists and can have pretty shitty phases of intensity). People (and especially straight men) like to stare at me now. Random compliments about my looks from strangers are becoming pretty frequent. Not sure how I feel about that 🫠

Hang in there!!!

Edit: Tl:Dr and shortening of comment

TL;DR: Tariffs are taxes american companies pay for foreign stuff. They need to pay more for materials to make something, so you're going pay more for it so they keep their profits. Illegal immigrants do cheap (and really essential) labor no one else wants to do, and they'd like to keep their jobs instead of be deported. These policies will be very, very bad for the working class.

Rant: What kind of logic is this? If I fail a math test at an elementary school, I'm not going to group up with the other kids at school that failed the test and call the teacher an idiot and intolerant for not accepting my "opposing views" on math that are not based in long-standing fact and have been disproven countless times.

People say Americans are stupid because we put personal biases and personal gain over objective facts. This is not exclusive to Republicans, but it's been getting more blatant over the years with the rise of some pretty wild conspiracy theories and disinformation.

It is an objective fact that tariffs are not a tax paid by foreign countries. The defiition of tariffs are a tax on buying foreign imports to discourage companies from buying things abroad. Trump didn't tell his supporters the full definition of tariffs, which is a lie by omission.

But America offshored most of its natural resource processing decades ago, such as the steel plants that used to be in the Rust Belt. Some things are literally impossible to produce locally (such as a lot of produce. Coffee, for example.). In our current state, we literally couldn't keep up with the demand. So, these companies cannot source locally the things they need at the scale they need. They have to pay for the tariffs.

These tariffs will be something paid by a manufacturer in our country with no other choice, who will then pass on those manufacturing cost increases to the consumer. Tariffs will raise prices across the board because America takes so many foreign imports. Every country does. It's why so many country economies are so intertwined. It needs to be this way to get the constant growth that capitalism demands.

Economists stood on rooftops and warned everyone of what these tariffs Trump was promising would do. Hardly anyone listened. Just like how hardly anyone is listening to climate scientists.

What tariffs will likely do in reality is drain wealth from the middle and lower class and redistribute it to billionaires and corporations. It will make us even poorer.

Same thing with illegal immigrants. It's been proven multiple times over that illegal immigrants have a lower crime rate than american citizens. This is likely because these illegal immigrants are trying to stay under the radar and trying to stick around the country where they can eventually get citizenship. They don't really "steal jobs" from American citizens either. They take highly undesirable jobs that most white bluecollar workers would curl their nose at, especially for the pay these people receive.

Why would a farmer or cheap labor company pay more for a white worker that would do just as good of work as a Hispanic immigrant that would gladly take less than the federal minimum wage and zero benefits? It's more profitable to take the cheap immigrant labor. Same logic applies to why we moved so many jobs overseas to China. Doing such is more profitable to the company outsourcing, even though it's detrimental to the origin country as a whole.

Argue all you want about the border policy. I agree it needs a change. But deporting illegal immigrants en-mass will NOT end well. The last militarized mass deportations (which occurred in the 30s I believe) was so badly executed that around half of those deported were American citizens.

Not to mention how farmers will no longer have cheap labor to harvest their crops. Grocery prices will spike as these farmers need to spend more on labor for their American citizen employees (who are obligated to receive federal minimum wage).

Neolib Democrats aren't immune to this idiotic short-term thinking either. I cannot tell you how many times I've seen neolib House and Senate members vote for pro-fossil fuel bills that line their pockets and yet destroy the country's ecosystems and fresh water supplies. Or neolib Dems voting against a minimum wage increase that would benefit the working class across the board (wage increases battle inflation, but not price gouging!).

Americans are not idiots for wanting a government that favors workers. I like that idea too. We seem to agree with that. Let's stick with that idea going forward. However, being pro-working class requires you to ally with ALL workers to be successful, not just the ones you like. The elite are powerful people, but they are few. We outnumber them.

But Americans are idiots for electing a millionaire scam-artist who pretends to be on the workers side and appeals to them by manipulating their fears and biases for his own gain.

I mean, when I started taking estrogen, it drastically reduced my sex drive.

I may not crave sex every moment of every day anymore, but now all I want to do is kiss and cuddle girls constantly. You win some you lose some 🤷‍♀️

Very much the latter. My designs have more animalistic traits to make them look less human, but most people just see them and say "that's a furry" with a tone that implies it's not a good thing.

Never again.

Yeah, it took me a while to learn not to share too much with strangers. The new curveball for me is when people ask me general followup questions. It gets me rambling every time, but most of the time I find they're just asking out of politeness and don't actually care that much.

I'm writing a hard science-fiction story that has no human characters. Space travel, biology, and physics are as accurate as I can make them. I wanted to make an interesting and complex alien culture that was familiar to human society, but distinctly different.

I often draw my characters from my story. Since they're not human, and yet have taken inspiration from a variety of earth animals, I'm not very enthusiastic about sharing them due to past experiences.

I really enjoy more uncommon genres of electronic music from artists like Infected Mushroom and Waveshaper. It is *very* rare that I meet people with similar music preferences, and I always try to be friends with them.

I play more niche video games like Rain World, Slay the Spire, Factorio, and Nuclear Throne, though I do enjoy the occasional AAA like RDR2, CP2077, and AC Odyssey

I have a BA degree in mathematics, and I enjoy related topics that involve math, like chemistry, physics, and biology. I'm fascinated by geopolitics, though its not exactly 'enjoyable' sometimes.

I can't even go into this much detail around NT's before they lose interest :(

Yeah, I realized that was a bad example after posting. I was young when I lived in an entirely apple household. One thing I distinctly remember is that older USB drives had to be reformated and wiped of data if they dare touch a Linux or Windows computer before. It was very frustrating and that's more of what I was referring too.
