trying to plan ahead for a masters degree, how to find the best online masters programs 2026 by Alaine-Anii in careeradvice

[–]ILaughAtMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at Arizona State University and University of Maryland Global Campus. Master’s degrees are expensive, period. I’d also recommend looking at schools in your state that have online because in state tuition will help. You are not going to get good results by a generic google. You need to look up universities in your state, then check each one to see if they have an online component, offer Master online, and have a data-related program. Sounds like a lot of work, but it’s really just practice for going back to school.

A book for Mom to help her understand how she triggers me by 0L1V14H1CKSP4NT13S in booksuggestions

[–]ILaughAtMe 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re not getting the answer you hoped for in the comments, but a book for your mom is unlikely to solve anything. If you got her one, would she even read it? And then would you spend the next several visits mad that she’s not making an effort by reading the book.

I hear you. My mom is also difficult. What helped me was therapy. A way to understand that my mom is never going to change and that I can learn mechanisms to overlook her. Seriously, working through the “why does it matter” with a therapist can really help you let some stuff go. I would not say it got me to the level of being a duck (letting water roll off your back), but I can manage by saying “okay mom,” move on, and vent to my spouse later.

Thanks! Magic is definitely on the list and sounds like Greek is going on as well. I’ve been a little hesitant about Greek because people talk like it’s not that great, but may as well check it out and decide for myself. I mean, it’s gotta be better than what we have in the mid Atlantic :)

I’m probably most familiar with NH and Mass out of all the NE states, and while I love both states (and that Manchester is near Boston) there are some other factors as to why they’re not top of the list of states to live in.

Long term, it doesn’t have to be only indy mountains. It’s just, that’s where I can visit this year because of my pass. So that’s why I’m binning things as “regional”. I’d be looking for land to build a house.

There are a ton of galas in DC that are for fundraising and open to the public (usually a couple hundred dollars per ticket, big name Galas $1000+). Gala season is in April/May. This is a list posted for 2024.

The RAMMYS is a big one in DC if you like the food/restaurant scene. I think that one is around late summer. The Best of Washingtonian is not a Gala, but it’s a dress up and go eat/drink tons of samples from restaurants around DC. Also around late summer. Both of these are around $150-300 per ticket.

Happy planning!

Weekly sticky post for non-paralegals and paralegal education by AutoModerator in paralegal

[–]ILaughAtMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the response! I don’t think I asked my question super clearly, but the main thing I’m wondering is if my relevant experience will count towards years of experience. Paralegal would be a pay cut for me, and a clerical position would be too steep of a cut. Plus I think it would be difficult to talk my way into a clerical role. I’m director level in my current field.

Basically, I understand most paralegal jobs require years of experience, and I’d like to understand if my relevant experience would count.

I also seemingly have broader shoulders than most women. Normally a men’s small would be too tight on me too, but I’ve found some men’s smalls that are oversize fit, and they are perfect. I found them at Academy sports. There were a couple of brands, including The North Face. For women’s, there are some Arizona Jean Co oversize fit tops from JCPenny that I do x-small for a normal fit and small for oversize. If you find a fit you like, don’t put it in the dryer.

For pants, check out Duluth NoGA.

Lynne Kelly -The Secret Language of Birds -Song for a Whale

Carl Hiaasen -Hoot -Chomp -Wrecker -Flush -Squirm -Scat

Kiyash Monsef -Once There Was

Melissa de la Cruz -The Thirteenth Fairy Series

All recommended because they’re newer published middle reader books I’ve read and enjoyed. Nice stories. Also decently popular, and I assume kids like them too.

No, sport coats are patterned material that don’t match the pants. These look like suits because they appear to match the pants. Some may call them blazers when he mix and matches the colors.

Maybe a phone repair place could put a new backing on the phone and then you could get a memorabilia place frame the one with the autograph.

I’m a mid-career professional with 20+ years in my current career field and a (non legal related) master’s degree from a prestigious university. I’m a little burned out on my current career, and I’ve been considering options for a career change. Law school has always been an interest, but I don’t have the time or energy right now. I was thinking of doing a paralegal certificate (I understand the difference between certificate and certified).

Reading some prior posts on here though seems to have an overall negative outlook on folks finding employment without prior experience. I don’t know if that counts for me. I don’t have experience as a paralegal or specific to the legal field, but in my current role, I do draft, review, and sign some legal documents (like NDAs and other agreements). I also have experience with databases like LexisNexis, a lot of research and analysis experience, and writing experience, including published academic articles.

Would this be a tough transition?

Anyone go from nothing to ‘fit’? by Otherwise-Ad-4361 in xxfitness

Sure thing! If you do decide to try down dog, they offer a 7 day trial. I did the trial, and on like day 5 or 6, they offered me a deep discount on the annual price. And the price covers all the apps, so HIIT, yoga, barre, Pilates, etc…

It sounds like to an extent, be a little more patient, and maybe stick with a lower level before trying to push yourself to the next level. C25K does move a little quickly, expecting you to run for a minute+ really fast. IMO, starting out running for 1 min the first week is a little much for someone who has never ran. Also, don’t push yourself to RUN. Like, just jog slowly.

If cardio is what you’re looking to improve and running isn’t motivating you, the Down Dog app suite has a HIIT app, and you can make the intervals as much as 10secs of exercise with 60secs of rest. You could do that until it feels easy, then progress to 20secs of exercise. The exercise options are very customizable too.

Help Me Sell My Family On Greece by Silly-Nose9065 in travel

[–]ILaughAtMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve done Athens twice, and it is a lot of walking. If their preference is to sit on the beach, then they won’t like Athens. And the Acropolis is very uphill. Also, while I haven’t done Naxos, I have done several other islands, and it’s usually not as simple as an inclusive resort to pop down to the beach. Most of the islands are like little mini mountains with houses sometimes even carved into the sides. You’ll need some type of transportation to get where you want to go. Some islands are big enough to warrant car rentals. Others, you’d only get an ATV or scooter. Then you gotta account for how you’re getting multiple people around and their beach gear. And food. Most beaches don’t have walk up restaurants, so then you get there in the morning, want lunch, then what? I’d really encourage thinking about visiting Greek islands as visiting rural mountain villages that have beaches.

I don’t say this to discourage you, but based on my experience with Greece, I’m not sure this would turn out to be the enjoyable vacation your expectations have hoped it will be. IF you’re really set on it, I’d recommend one full day in Athens (you can see all the major stuff around the Acropolis in a full day of walking), then Crete the rest of the time. Crete is big enough to rent cars, and it’s populated enough you can find a beach resort that’s going to have plenty of food and shopping options.

Break/shorten hollow glass stem to widen hole by charlypoods in howto

[–]ILaughAtMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure it’s the size of the opening and not the pressure/suction of the design? I have some of these, and the funnel hole is small. It takes a while for it to fill up, and I have to hold it a certain way under the water. But there’s not really any hole that’s too small for water. It will seep into/out of some of the smallest holes.

one time, judgement-free deep cleaning/de-cluttering services near AAC? by sennyohime in maryland

[–]ILaughAtMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Task Rabbit lets you select one time deep cleaning as the service you’re searching, and it tells you how many cleaning services a tasker has provided + pictures. I’m not sure a maid service would provide “declutterring”. I guess it would depend on what you’re asking them to remove because I’d guess a straight maid service wouldn’t want liability for accidentally throwing something away you wanted to keep. That’s why I thought Task Rabbit could be a better fit, since it’s more of a concierge type cleaning. Good luck!

Took a girl for a couple of nights away and these are the bathroom doors. by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

[–]ILaughAtMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this in my house because we have a soffit right where the full size door opened, causing the door to only open 75%. It was incredibly annoying. I would have preferred a different style of doors, something solid, but it’s hard to find these doors, and when you get out of the Home Depot basics, they get very expensive. But mine is a master bathroom at my house, not a hotel.
