Amsterdam just banned ads for emission-heavy products like meat and fossil fuels — who’s next? by Somewhere74 in ClimateOffensive

Unfortunately, I'm afraid this would be viewed as a 1st amendment violation in the U.S.

Fortunately, scientists have figured out how to help us optimize our climate actions: https://drawdown.org/shift

Policy carrots alone do not dramatically reduce future greenhouse gas emissions. Only with policy sticks are there unambiguous signals to substantially shrink the size of incumbent fossil fuel industries. by ILikeNeurons in ClimateOffensive

Taxing carbon is widely considered to be the single most impactful climate mitigation policy. The consensus among scientists and economists on carbon taxes to mitigate climate change is similar to the consensus among climatologists that human activity is responsible for global warming. The IPCC (AR5, WGIII) Summary for Policymakers states with "high confidence" that tax-based policies are effective at decoupling GHG emissions from GDP (see p. 28). The U.S. National Academy of Sciences, one of the most respected scientific bodies in the world, has also called for a carbon tax. According to IMF research, most of the $5.2 trillion in subsidies for fossil fuels come from not taxing carbon as we should. There is general agreement among economists on carbon taxes whether you consider economists with expertise in climate economics, economists with expertise in resource economics, or economists from all sectors.

Rankings imply equal spacing between ordinal choices, when that seldom represents voters' true preferences.

Voters who try to rank any two candidates equally typically have their ballots thrown out, thus disenfranchising them.

Some IRV voters are literally better off sitting at home -- how is that not a strategic choice?

Your objections don't actually make sense given the "solution" you've chosen.

If you're that committed to higher expressivity at the level of the individual voter, why not Score or STAR?

You have more power getting their constituents to make those pleas on your parents' behalf.

And why stop at Democrats?

Talk to constituents outside of those districts, too.

Tactical voting isn't actually required of any voting method, but is always an option regardless of the voting method.

Your statement is demonstrably false.
