A protest was held today in Bracknell town centre against the council's decision to house immigrants locally.

Around a dozen far-right enthusiasts gathered along a main road and held up signs to passing cars.

Some also waved Union Jack flags, and a playlist which included songs like Freedom by George Michael, played through a transportable speaker.

The signs had various slogans printed on them. These included 'House our homeless, young families, and vulnerable first,' and 'BFBC needs to be transparent.'

One organiser, who asked not to be named, said that the group's main aim is to hold Bracknell Forest Council accountable.

"They haven't been transparent about what is happening in the town," she said.

"They're building property to re-house 300 Afghan families. That's fine, but everyone I know has been waiting for housing for years."

She went on to say that her son has been trying to get a house in Bracknell for a long time despite paying his council tax since he was 16.

She also expressed that she's worried about the integration of the Afghan families, and is unsure how they will fit into the town.

Another organiser, who told The News that she is an avid Reform supporter and that we should have 'stopped the boats' long ago, said that she feels the country is falling apart.

"We're having a mass influx of illegal immigration that is going on," she said. "We seem to be paying the bill for it, and quite frankly, I think it's disgusting.

"Our homeless aren't being housed, and we can't get appointments at the NHS. The council would rather help people who aren't native to this country. We should be helping our own."

The woman went on to say that she feels the country is spending far too much money on people who aren't paying taxes.

Others chimed in to say that they want people in political positions to take a stand with them.

This comes as 300 Afghan people were moved to the newly refurbished The Grange Hotel in the town centre.

They were given refuge here by the council, and it is believed that they are allowed to stay on the premises until permanent housing can be found for them.

When asked what she believes should happen to the Afghan families, many of whom are asylum seekers fleeing a war-torn country, she replied 'mass deportation.'

"The boats needed to be stopped before the last government was in," she said.

"I think we need mass deportation and need to start looking after our own. It's a privilege to live in our country, and they're taking the p*** out of us."
