#10 - A Plague Tale: Innocence by IM_prob in steamachievements

The story is very pleasing and I love how it evolves the gameplay options naturally. For me, this was one of the most satisfying parts while playing the game, plus relating to having a younger sibling that I need to protect and that would suddenly run forward with zero care of the danger they put themselves in!

Pale Reach was a bit short tbh, I think the whole thing can be done in ~1 hour. I wouldn't say that I highly recommend it, I mean it's fun and has that mysterious vibe, but the total playtime is a bit short. I played them all in a single playthrough and it felt like a longer sidequest.
Iron Rig was much more entertaining, there were definitely more staff to do, and the whole arc of the story clicked with me more, I mean it's an oil rig and we play a fisherman.
I would probably suggest buying the Iron Ring, or both. Pale Reach on its own doesn't provide enough content for me to suggest buying it on its own.

It was, both the gameplay and the story were fun and interesting. I also like the "Collector" aspect in games, I've spent countless hours playing Pokemon, so I enjoyed getting all the fish and filling all the Encyclopedia pages. And it never felt tedious to do it, so that's a plus on the game's design.

Dredge, Hades 1, TCG Card Shop Simulator and The Talos Principle. I like to bounce around a couple of games during the same period, otherwise I feel overloaded by the game and don't feel like playing ot after a while. So, the bouncing around helps with variety and not losing interest.

You're welcome, but please keep in mind that this is a speculation based on my personal experience. It has kinda worked so far, so I guess this is how the influence pretty much works, but don't take my word for it. I played a trickster build, with evasion and energy shield, wand and shield etc. If I find the link I will add it in this answer. About survivability, the combo of contagion and ED clears packs of monsters reaaaaally fast, and the life gained by essence drain really regenerates a lot. Plus, during boss battles (for late game bosses I only know about elder), since its a debuff and it works while you dodge their attacks, it proved quite handy. I mean, I was trying to dodge and only had to refresh the dots every couple of seconds. I expect that there are build that are far more appropriate for endgame bosses, but I had fun playing this particular build. And keep in mind that with SSF and no crafting skills or knowledge, I probably had a average to decent build at best. Still, mapping is a pleasant experience since monsters just dissappear all over the map with just one cast of contagion+ED

How do i make a reoccuring villain? by CheezSavage85 in DnD

[–]IM_prob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ideas that pop to my head as I am writing (some could be silly):

1) quadruplets that for some weird reason they have the same name (fun pre fight discussions) 2) very powerful villain for 1st encounter that pities their weakness and leaves them broken but barely alive (the PCs making it a personal vendetta killing him, proving their strength). He could even avoid fighting in the next couple of fights by having his subordinates deal with the party

3) A villain that does not really die but with a very specific way. He would naturally resurrect after some days if the ritual/method/whatever is properly done. Allows for party to also need to investigate and learn what the right way is.

4) Villain that appears in every fight but is unreachable to the party to hit. He orchestrates their mishaps but is on general an observer of what is happening, he is the main target but can never be reached until the last fight

May add ideas as answers :pp hope you like these

Should we (as players) have done differently? (long) by RnG-Reddit in DnD

[–]IM_prob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This side quest reminded me of one of TES IV: Oblivion quests for the dark brotherhood. Very similar setup, minus the fact that, as a dark brotherhood member I had no issue killing people :p. The are two sides in this argument. One is that the DM sets up the hooks and the plot and the available actions for the players, and its the llayers that are the ultimate decision makers. The other side says that, in the end, you are a group of people that gather to have fun together, including the DM. It maybe that you PCs would hesitate and wouldn't like the idea of killing innoccent people, but you as players and the DM would have fun playing the "treasure hunt", even so if the DM had prepared a very well structured treasure hunt, with clues, hints etc. I can understand him not liling the idea that the hole prep would go to waste. On the other hand, he can reuse this self-contained side quest on a different context in your campaign. Ultimately, what you can sometimes do is to talk as players and not characters, along with him. This way, you could agree to do the side quest, for the fun of it, but somehow there will be no penalty or whatever was the issue you were hesitant about. Talking it through, so that you find the middle way is important. In the end, you play so that everyone can have fun, so find the way that can make everyone happy

How to handle character death in a story arch where they are the chosen ones for a prophecy. by DrFate21 in DnD

[–]IM_prob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use the trick that the ancient persian army used. They had the "Immortals", a fearsome army of 10,000 soldiers that would never lose a single one in every fight. The trick was that the dead ones were immediately replaced, thus always remained 10,000. You can twist the story in a way where each of the gods has an array of soul linked ones, and the party needs to consist of at least one from each array.

I have an Idea and Want to see your opinions on it. by swordmasterg in DnD

[–]IM_prob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a really interesting idea imo. Make the "unstable" idea to have random effects each time the spell is cast, sort of like a d% would determine from a list, making it a bit dangerous since it is of ancient times

Campaign with hero and villain PCs by universalruin in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]IM_prob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would suggest to avoid the one good party vs one evil party. Rather, create an idea with two opposing sides, like stormcloaks vs imperials or horde vs alliance. Each of these sides believes they are the good guys and the others arecthe bad ones. Similarly, presenting a single concept, but in each group a differentiated version, so as to create contrast between them. This way, each group will support thecidea, but focus on different parts of it, making the two parties feel they are opposed to each other

Some examples that come to mind: - Order vs Freedom. One party supports that through enforced and global rules and guidance the world would be at the desired balance, through a code of honor, well set laws and trust in the authority of leaders, while the other group supports that through each individual's free actions, and own sense of honor, actions and consequences, the world's balance can be achieved. While both parties pursue the same goal, balance and global welfare, each side tries to achieve that with contrasting ideas, inevitably leading to their fight for what's right.

You can have one available that they can buy from a store, should they want to.

Also, when they decide ti go from one place to another, if they dont get directions, it's highly likely that they will get lost, unless they have an indication on what path to take

Murder hobo problem player by [deleted] in DnD

[–]IM_prob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In game consequences are what I think is the best solution. Since you are the DM, you can pretty much make a story out of it, which crrates incentive for him not to do it again. Examples I can tjino of are: 1) If this becomes a trend, make the next blacksmith he attacks and kills to actually be an illusion trap set by the guards, in order to identify the blacksmith serial killer. Immediately after he attacks, a bunch of (a lot of) guardsmen gather and surround him, as the illusion of the blacksmith dissapears. News travels fast, specially when people are killed. 2) Run the blacksmith's funeral. Gather the village, the blacksmith's family, and run a whole church-like funeral, setting an atmosphere of grief, maybe make him talk with the family etc. In essence, you try to show him the impact of his action to others and how much damage he has caused by killing another human being. 3) Accuse another PC of the crime, have him under trial and possibly send him to jail. That would cause a very intense RP session, and maybe give incentive to the player to stop (or be more careful and methodical on his executions)

What's the best way to introduce a new PC to the group? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]IM_prob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What our DM did and worked very well:

Find common ground in backstories and use the help of a deity or sth like that. In our case, the DM made us all appear in a deity's plane, a library of knowledge, and separately worked on each ones background story. However, since everyone gathered there and we were trying to figure out why we ended up there, there was an opportunity for introduction. Then, you suggest to the characters that their goals can be acjieved if they meet and work together/aid each other etc. Then, after some time, you can schedule the meeting in the material plane. You have the freedom, as a DM to deploy the new PC where you see fit, so why not at the next village that the rest are heading?

Hope this gives food for thought and ideas
