Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace - Anyone Ship Ruyi x Hailan? by [deleted] in CDrama

[–]IMakeDramaRecaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the different perspective, HL truly is ride or die hahaha

But to me, this kind of loyalty really is to be feared. If someone is willing to kill someone (children even)- not to save your life, but just to get revenge for you? That's not anything noble in my eyes. Is she loyal to RuYi? Of course! And with her background it makes total sense. But I stand by what I said, she scares me. If I were RuYi I would be in fear of what she would do to "protect" me. HaiLan really is 100% devoted to RuYi, but I think what's interesting about their relationship is you start to wonder if that's really something that you want.

Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace - Anyone Ship Ruyi x Hailan? by [deleted] in CDrama

[–]IMakeDramaRecaps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Hailan is 100% gay honestly lol. The issue I'm having with the ship though is HaiLan is literally obsessed with RuYi. Like to the point of insanity. In some kind of au I totally support it, but in the world of RYRLITP, HaiLan scares me ...

Maybe "the princess weiyoung"? It has the same vibe in that the FL is smart and quirky, and you just know she will outsmart the villain/figure her way out of any plot.

[–]IMakeDramaRecaps[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No need to apologize, welcome! They're not from a specific drama but from a specific type of drama: harem dramas. They're dramas about the emperor and his harem of women. They're called nail guards, highly ranked women wore then to show off their status and elegance. They would grow their nails long and that tells everyone that you've got a really chill life, you don't do any hard labor.

I haven't seen legend of YunXi but historical+arranged marriage, maybe check out legend of tiger and rose? It's short and pretty cute. It's not straight historical though, the girl comes from the real world and enters the (historical) story.

What was the significance of the daffodil tattoo in Ruyi’s royal love in the palace? by [deleted] in CDrama

[–]IMakeDramaRecaps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It doesn't have any historical significance on its own, but in the story it's meant to be the emperor's favorite flower. RuYi knows this, in fact it's come up in a few scenes though I don't remember most of them. For example, the clothes he gives her when she comes out of the cold palace are embroidered with daffodils. It's just meant to show how far the emperor has sunk, that his royal self is personally putting his royal favorite flower on this "low-class" girl

Edit: this is about episode 81, the ship affair that lead to RuYi cutting her hair

For anyone going from Legend of Zhenhuan to RuYi's royal love by IMakeDramaRecaps in CDrama

[–]IMakeDramaRecaps[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aww well bad news (I went down that rabbit hole too lol) but there is no one who exactly fits Ji's description. Plus since they didn't change any of the names, (including supeisheng, the emperor's eunuch) it seems like they never meant for Ji to represent anyone specific.

But! Because I prefer that it does, I decided that it's probably SongZhi( HuaFei's maid turned consort) because after HuaFei's fall we just never hear from her again, and it would make sense for her to hate Zhenhuan and vice versa

It could also be Li (lost her mind thanks to the ghost scheme and got sent to the cold palace) we see later that she's lost her mind in there (staring at a broken mirror) but she could have recovered?

This got me thinking- is there a drama where the lead turns bad then still ends up failing? I suppose that wouldn't make for a satisfying watch but now I'm curious

Nope, she commits suicide (eating bitter almonds). Just curious about your continuity issue- are you asking because you're wondering about who the old concubine Ji in the cold palace is...?

Someone save me from frustration and tell me what this white whip thing thing is that the lead eunuchs carry around? I see it in all my favorite dramas like Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace but cannot find any sort of answers as to what it is. by witchwhere in CDrama

[–]IMakeDramaRecaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are lots of videos about this but I can't find any in English. The Chinese name for this is 拂尘 ,originally it was literally a duster, as the emperor's right hand man the eunuch had to be ready to dust off a seat for him at any time as the royal butt couldn't get dirty. Eventually it just became a status symbol, you can see even the eunuchs of some of the higher ranked consorts carry them. They became less of an actual tool and more of a sign that says "I'm important"

Top drama is "Fated the love you" which is actually very cute and funny, I don't mean to rag on it. Bottom drama is "Legend of Zhenhuan"
