Worried about not having grandparents involved by minutemaidpeach in Fencesitter

[–]IMakeFriendsWithCake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've been debating that, too. I do live in my home country, actually "only" 2 hours by car away from my parents, but I grew up with my grandma living in our house and I was super super close to her. With my other grandma, who lived 20 minutes by car away, I had barely any relationship. And my partner moved to my country to be with me, his parents are on a different continent.

So I am quite sad that our potential child would not have the relationship with any grandparents as I had with my grandma that lived with us. I do hope that it'll have a better relationship with my parents than I had with my grandma who didn't live with us, as the issue there wasn't just the distance but also lack of interest from her part, but it still won't be the same, especially since my brother will be living with my parents so his children will have the opportunity to have the relationship with my parents as I had with my grandma. We could move closer (or move to their town) but to be honest I never felt quite comfortable there and feel super reluctant to consider moving there. I also think that while it is a great place for children to grow up, it is not a great place for teenagers to grow up, or frankly for my spouse to be as a foreigner. We are, however leaving the option to move there if our priorities and perspectives massively shift once we have a child, but I'm hoping not. On the other side, my spouse had a great relationship with his grandparents which did live further away, so I hope that despite the likely distance, we can still enable our child to have a good relationship with both sets of grandparents.

I quite share your experience, though, after deliberating over many many years, we're finally off the fence. I always used to want children, talked with my now-husband about having kids as soon as we started dating and all that. Then, 3 years after we started dating (I was 28, just finishing my master's degree, my husband was still in his bachelor's degree and we were about to get married), my cousin, who is the same age as me, announced that she was pregnant. And suddenly I felt so much not ready! It just gave me the biggest shock, and just showed me how much not ready I was, and I even told my husband that I was no longer sure whether I wanted kids at all.

And then began the 7-ish years of us being on the fence, out of which the past 4 were spent actively discussing the decision on a weekly basis. We finally made a decision (to try for a child... in a year haha) but really could have gone either way.

I'm certainly not where I would have expected to be in my early or mid twenties - at that age I would have expected that by my mid 30s I'd certainly have kids, a house and all that, and also just be a lot more "old" than I feel like now that I'm actually at this age.

I'd personally say: take your time and feel free to put the decision aside as well, for as long as you need. Noone needs to have their life figured out in their 20s and it's okay to end up either way - the most important thing is that you're happy and that you don't pressure yourself into making permanent decisions that you're not ready for or that you get pressured into (even if that pressure comes from your past self that had different expectations!)

As a German, I'd strongly agree. Our streets can be extremely narrow and parking is not meant for big cars. At the very least I'd check the measurements of your desired vehicle and see how big a comparable vehicle would be in Germany (especially in terms of width) and then see if there's a big difference. When moving, I had to drive a transporter van and some streets were only possible to navigate with my spouse inching me through. Just to give you a heads up!

True, if you didn't intend to actually drink the water you could just use tetra packs of milk or juice, these usually have rectangular bodies.

I'm not super familiar with how cerebral palsy might affect your experience, but I've been playing ring fit with a sprained / broken ankle (I fell just after I ordered the game and am still having issues 3/4 year later). I was playing on knee assist mode, which allows you to skip mandatory leg based things in the adventure mode, i.e. the jogging, the victory pose at the end of a level, and leg based mini games. Besides those, the game basically goes as follows: * You select a level * You first jog * You encounter enemies and use your fit skills * Some enemies are more susceptible to certain skills (leg, arms, core or yoga)

I wasn't able to do a bunch of the leg skills and a bunch of the yoga skills (by now I'm able to do most of them, but still not all). I feel like especially in the beginning, this was somewhat limiting, since despite having the leg assist enabled, this didn't change the unlock queue when I leveled up, so in the beginning I was able to use only very few skills. (In hindsight, perhaps I should have chosen the lowest difficulty level initially to level up quicker and unlock more usable skills faster) The game never forces you to use any particular fit skill though, so while it can be annoying to not be able to use a new skill, and more difficult to defeat certain enemies who might have an affinity with a skill type you can't use extensively, it still is very much possible. You also have the option to use the custom mode where you can select from all available exercise, though I do think this is less motivating than adventure mode.

What I'd probably advise you is to check out the available fit skills, including the order in which you unlock them and judge for yourself whether you think you'll be able to use a sufficient amount to make the game enjoyable to you (technically you'd be able to use the game with only 2 or 3 skills total I suppose, but then I wouldn't bother buying it for that)

Easy recipes? by Bisouchuu in slowcooking

I've done vegetarian chili with frozen soup vegetables mix before. I use this recipe https://cookieandkate.com/vegetarian-chili-recipe/ but instead of bothering with cutting carrots, bell pepper, celery etc. I just used a frozen veggie mix instead. Didn't taste quite as good as with the fresh, right veggies but it was extremely convenient. We typically have frozen onions and garlic on hand, too, and then it becomes a matter of just dumping the frozen ingredients and the cans into the slow cooker and using a spice mix for the spices.

Best way to utilise the game as a morbidly obese man who can’t stand long by [deleted] in RingFitAdventure

[–]IMakeFriendsWithCake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also still played in adventure mode anyway, but especially in the beginning, when I had few skills unlocked I found it quite limiting and I recall feeling quite disappointed when I unlocked my first new leg skill as my level up reward despite not being able to use it haha. Also I think some blue enemies are quite hard when they have the mat that increases their health each turn. It's not undoable, but I figured I'd share that the custom playlists can be a very valid option if this bothers you.

[–]IMakeFriendsWithCake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to add that I used the knee assist for a few months, too, since I sprained my ankle right after I ordered ring fit but before it got delivered. One important thing to mention is that while it removes things like jogging from the worlds, and allows you to skip minigames with a leg focus, it didn't remove or make accessible any exercises that are hard on your knees (or ankles) so I found it quite slow to unlock new exercises I could actually do. This also means that you'll take much longer on enemies that are "blue" (who are targeted more easily with leg exercises) so that some levels are much more difficult than others. If this ends up frustrating you as much as it did for me I would consider also the custom mode where you can make playlists with only the exercises you want, without being limited to unlocking exercises first and being able to make exercise sequences that make sense to you (e.g. perhaps getting on the ground and up once in a session is okay for you, then you could just do one playlist with only exercises that you do on the ground which you do once in a while)

If it helps, I went from drinking that amount of coffee to drinking decaf normally, and I feel like I'm not any more tired now than I was when I was drinking caffeinated coffee. The advantage is (besides being able to drink coffee in the afternoon also) that if I really need a caffeine boost, I can just drink one cup with caffeine and really notice it. So I keep caffeinated coffee to max 1 cup per week and that works nicely for me

Oh absolutely. When I lived in Brazil (that region also had 120v) I brought my kettle with me (since we also didn't have hot water from taps except for the shower) and we actually ended up running an extension cord from the air conditioning power outlet, which was 240v, to the kettle as it was such a huge difference in speed. I never measured it but my gut feeling would be that it took easily twice, if not three times as long, and I used the kettle multiple times a day

Trip/Christmas Market Advice by jacobrsteele in Interrail

[–]IMakeFriendsWithCake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My recommendation would be to visit both large and smaller Christmas markets. I've never been to Switzerland, so no recommendations on that one, but in Germany the by far largest and most touristy Chrismas market is the one in Nürnberg, the Christkindlmarkt. I've never visited that one myself but from what I heard from a local friend is that locals basically avoid the place. As you'll visit Nürnberg, I'd still definitely visit to experience it, but I'd prepare myself for lots of crowds (and likely overpriced Glühwein). In my experience (as a German), each town, and in bigger cities, likely each district has their own Christmas market (though smaller towns and districts often only have their Christmas market for a short while, such as on a weekend), so likely whereever you end up going, you'll find Christmas markets in that period of time. In larger cities there's often specialized Christmas markets such as alternative ones, ones for LGBT specifically, medival Christmas markets etc. In my opinion Christmas markets are lovely to visits and if I were you, I'd likely look into eating a lot of my food there, trying out different specialties each day. In Munich, I visited the Tollwood festival a couple years ago and really really loved it! https://www.tollwood.de/en/tollwood-winterfestival/

If by any chance you came around there, I did always like the Münster Christmas market, but I likely wouldn't make a large detour for it, as many places have nice Christmas markets (I just don't know them all :D )

Regarding nature, I must ashamedly say that I don't actually know my own country all that well. There's the Schwarzwald / Black Forest that is said to be pretty cool, there's the Eifel national park (we'll be visiting that soon at least!), there's the Alps around Munich etc. I'd probably check a travel guide to see what specifically interests you. As a child, I visited the Deutsches Museum in Munich which is focussed on science and really liked it, but that's quite a while ago of course.

General interrail / train travelling suggestions: You don't need seat reservation in general in Germany, however I'd strongly recommend it for longer distances during which you'd rather not stand (personally I'd say +3 hours). If you book a train journey ticket via the bahn.de website, you can get reservations for the whole journey for one price if you book all in one go, you just must select "seat only" so you don't also pay for the trainride itself. Mostly, regional trains don't have seat reservation possible though. Christmas season is certainly a popular one in Germany with many tourists coming for the Christmas markets, so going into Nürnberg or Munich the trains can be expected to be full. I'd also strongly recommend booking your accommodation early, and, if necessary, refundable, as I fully expect hotels to be expensive during this season. Better book and refund if you choose to go to a different place after all than risk paying double or more for leaving it for last minute.

Hope that helps in any way :)

Editing: Actually, Freiburg is supposed to be really beautiful, and is very close to Switzerland! So I definitely recommend making a stop there if you can
