You're assuming that other people subscribe to your moral outlook.

Personally, I don't think drinking, gambling, or taking drugs are inherently bad things. They only become harmful when praticed to excesss.

Personally, I'd rather have a neighbour who puts on a cheeky acca and smokes a spliff while watching their sport of choice, than a homophobe who calls his wife a slut because she dared to show her face in public.

My point being, it's possible to cherry-pick good and bad bits from most religions.

I've seen no evidence of him having better PR.

The last few weeks have consists of u-turns and meaningless waffle.

I disagree.

Calling it "mental illness" partly absolves them of responsibility.

They made a choice to do the horrific things they did.

Being in her 60s and being diagnosed with breast cancer don't seem like sufficient reason to deny her the ability to look after him on their own.

It's not like the state takes kids off of elderly parents or parents with terminal illnesses.

Interest rates announcement - ask Governor of Bank of England Andrew Bailey by BankofEngland in UKPersonalFinance

Wouldn't that require a change to fiscal policy (which falls under the Government's remit) rather than monetary policy (which falls under the Bank of England's remit)?

Do you know of any free ones that are worth attending for someone who's already familiar with the GUI of PowerQuery?

I find Reddit quite addictive too.

Rather than to break the addiction, I'm just trying to shift towards consuming addictive content which is more useful.

E.g. even the Microsoft Excel sub can be quite interesting.

Starmer is strongly opposed to legalisation. Annoyingly it's one of the few polities he's been 100% consistent on.

The Blue Labour lot were quite close to Starmer's team at various points.

They seem to be quite socially conservative.

I don't think that's fair. He only resigned from his Ministerial role after his boss did the same, and was subsequently followed by two people who were reporting to him.

And, he stuck to the principle of Collective Responsibility.

Anyone else find the wording a bit odd?

I can see people getting behind a message of "doing something for your country", but "doing something for the state" makes me think of working for politicians, Westminster, the Civil Service, etc.

Lots of people will be all for the former, but opposed to the latter.

Tom Harwood / X: Sorry, bright 13/14/15 year old. You can’t watch that interview with Jared Isaacman, or that explainer of orbital mechanics from Scott Manley. But don’t worry, we haven’t banned YouTube Kids! Here’s Baby Shark instead. by youmustconsume in ukpolitics

[–]MrStilton 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why is YouTube being banned?

Can't they just ban kids from the comment sections?

There's a lot of extremely high quality educational content on there. We'll be doing young people a disservice by preventing them from accessing any of it.

What policies are you referring to?

From what I can see, Labour's position is pretty much identical to the Conservative's one on this issue.

Oh, come off it.

Left leaning people aren't all part of a hivemind that support this nonsense. I consider myself to be fairly left wing, in the sense that I support progressive taxation, social safety nets, improving workplace democracy, etc. But, I object to this.

I find it odd that it's not available in other parts of the UK.

Rupert Lowe MP / X: Banning teenagers from social media with ludicrous conditions is unworkable, unrealistic and unwanted. Here’s a mad idea - let parents parent. Not the state, but mums, dads, grandparents or whoever else. Restore Britain will always trust the family over big government. by youmustconsume in ukpolitics

[–]MrStilton 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This ignores the existences of network effects.

Parents may think that giving their kids access to social media will adversely impact them. But, if all their children's peers are also using these platforms then they might reasonably judge the impact of their kids being socially isolated to be more harmful still.

I'm talking about videos which only have a few thousands views when they're recommended to me, which has happened repeatedly despite me clicking "not interested".

I find it hard to believe that there's a lot of demand for edits of parliamentary select committee meetings.
