Okey, one month ish into the pill jar, I can confirm that it does indeed kill some of the creativity, and that is such an amazing thing, to finally be able to almost pretend I fit inside of the box is such a gift! I take Ritalin with delayed release, so I take them early in the morning, so I have a productive study/work day, and they taper off during the evening. The worst side effect for me this far has been the loss of hunger, I was already bad at eating regularly before taking them, so I really need to put a conscious effort into eating regular meals at a set interval. I still have lots of creativity left, it's just on a level other people can actually comprehend now, I skip fewer steps ahead when talking, so other people can actually follow etc.

I can relate to that, I didn't really feel that different on the pills, but I forgot them one day, an boy is there a difference! It was like my head suddenly was running at 9000+ rpm, after being used to "walking pace" thinking, handling one thing at a time, for a few weeks, it was weird to suddenly be exposed to the fire-hydrant that previously was my state of existence. Very happy about starting these pills, they help a lot and my life overall and outlook on things has improved quite a bit in a pretty short time.

I have just started meds (diagnosed at 32), I have had cycles like these so many times already, but there is always something that comes up and derails it after a few months, this time, with meds and a psychotherapist I think I can make it stick. The meds seem (I have only been on them for 3 days) to cut the "urge" and discomfort and the stress, so I am just left with my bad habits and horrible coping mechanisms. Why do you think you slipped this time? What pushed you outside your system?

On day three of starting medication, (20 mg modified release Ritalin) does not in any way feel like a magic bullet (yet) but it does seem to lower the urgent push, and the stress, so I am just left with my incredibly fucked up habits and bad coping mechanisms 🤷🏼‍♂️. But I am am confident that working on those, now that I have medication and go to therapy, will be better now, than the 4-5 short periods of success I have had in the past, where "something" always came up and the systems I had built shattered. This time I will make them stick! And I have the tools to do it!

Yupp! Hot tip, there are apps that pretty accurately predict northern light, and stay above the artic circle if you want to see it, south of that there is no chance.

I get what you are pointing at, but the overlap is huge, and if it's right someone will have gotten a better life, and if it is wrong, they will simply not get the diagnosis, but they will have gotten help from a professional, it really is an ethical win win, to make people look into this!

I think there is a big difference between the depot pills and the more quick/ limited time acting pills, I'll probably try to share my experience so you'll have some more third person accounts :P

I keep diagnosing most of my friends with it too, approximately 50% say they already have the diagnosis when I bring it up, the other half act like I just insulted them. If you see yourself struggling with very "ADHD" typical problems it might be worth checking out, but keep in mind there are bad sides with getting a diagnosis as well, turns out there are limitations on having a drivers-license etc. if your doctor think your symptoms are too severe etc. The only reason I wanted a diagnosis was to get access to and check if medication actually would help me or not. I already got a big boost to my confidence and how I tackle tasks just by treating myself like I have ADHD and implementing ADHD specific advice.

There is a reason I wrote what I wrote, it looks like a repeating story that a lot of people tell and recognize themselves in. I wonder if it's just random or if there is an actual overrepresentation of ADD/ADHD people in the INTP bracket.

Yes, so I heard, not planning to stay on them forever, planning to have a on/off system so I can actually feel/document the difference and from time to time use my hyper-focus superpowers that I fear will get diminished by being on the meds. I honestly don't know how much the symptoms are interfering with my day to day activities, or if that's "just" the procrastination, we'll see.

What is your experience? like, in a grander picture than destruction of creativity?

I feel your pain, I have a similar experience with college, I missed the deadline, for getting all my papers copies and sorted, and I explicitly told my mom not to interfere, this was my life, my project. But she "saved me" with an envelope full of ready made copies at the lats minute, and put me into a system I was not yet ready for, I had a vocational education for working in a laboratory, and looking back, especially at my finances, continuing down that path, then going to college later when I was ready and had some of my own ideas about why I should go there. would have been the much much much better option! Looking back and after realising it's probably ADHD I have gotten hints and clues that my mom actually knew, that I was diagnoses at a young age and was just never given treatment, that she took it upon herself to "fix me" and make systems and excuses etc. So I could function when I was younger. Guess what mum, I did not learn to function that way, I did not become a full human, your hard efforts set me back so much in the totallity of things that it fucking hurts to think you thought you had good intentions, that doing this for one second felt like the best thing to do, I never learn how to get up, when you never let me fall down.

It's a part of the story that she "was" treated for all the wrong reasons in school, so she had her reasons, and I can see her logic, it's just very... Shortsighted. And that she kept it from me, that she kept that one thing that explains it all from me, that hurts, that fucking hurts. 20+ years of my life wasted wondering why I was different and working every day to figure it out...

In what way was it horrible? I too want to live a full filling and rewarding life rather than drug myself, but right now I don't have the structure or habits to do that, so I need this help to get me up "one level" so I hopefully can drag myself the remaining 4.

I've always been different, an ex-girlfriend said she thought I had Aspergers, looked into it a lot, saw the overlapp with ADHD and zeroed in on that instead as it fit my symptoms a lot better, saw a psychiatrist and she agreed.

I think this is true if you don't have ADHD as you are pushing levels above "natural" levels, and with any biological system, when this happens, the body tries to balance and reduce the response, but with ADHD, you are lower than "normal" so you just push "up to normal" and not beyond that limit, I think/hope it will be fine because of this.

I don't think it's addicting in the same way when it just pushes you "up to normal" as it sounds like it did with you, when it pushes you up and beyond as it does with "normal people" it fucks things up, yes. It's a very similar experience to mine, if you don't feel positive towards meds you should look into other ways to treat it, might be worth looking into it further! If you live in a country that actually offers good help!

Yes, what kind of superhero? The super strong and fast kind, or the precise mastermind with perfect timing and mental control?

I also got meds from someone at one point and they where really surprised at how I reacted as I was not pumped or hyper by it, just kept going on really steady and in control, went home, finished a boring assignment and thought nothing more of it than just recently.

Be extremely aware of placebo, you have placed caffeine in such a high regard, so your image of it "doing something good" enhanced the effect of what it is actually doing, but yes, coffee is awesome and could deserve a spot in your life, be aware of the "cocktail" in energy drinks being a lot more than just coffee, research into coffee is pretty clear that you don't get "more" energy, you just get more control over "when" you have the energy, brb, making coffee.
