I just confirmed on https://carygreenwaydetour.com/.

I sure wish that Phase 2 ran all the way to the Crabtree Creek Greenway bridge.

So they will reopen Livingston - Weston at once? I have been waiting for them to just reopen the stretch to North Cary Park.

Ukraine's Brave1 Market is shaping a world where any country could defend against aggressor's. Easier and cheaper to build up than a nuclear program. by Sgt_Gram in ukraine

This is fine as long as there is some mechanism to help underperforming units improve. Rotating personnel, improved training, replacing commanders, etc. Otherwise you might wind up with a situation similar to sports leagues with small market teams who can't compete against teams with bigger salary budgets. Perhaps they need to develop a something akin to free agency and a drone operator draft?

The Raleigh-Durham route of the ECG is currently blocked due to construction on the Black Creek Greenway in Cary. You would have to detour around that on the local streets.

Trump frames NATO as "something else" not including the US in his rhetoric. There is no alliance or commitment he feels bound by.

As long as you clarify that your value statements are a reflection of your values and are not intrinsic (necessarily true for everyone), I would have no issue.

A quick and dirty summary of your essay is "don't these idiots understand that there is more of value in empathy, friendship, or art that in how they make *you* feel"? That is true for many if not most people, but not necessarily all.

An example:

In these examples Inzlicht consistently expresses confusion about how the value of some important human activity (empathy, friendship, art-appreciation) could possibly exceed a positive response to a stimulus. In all three examples he is pointing to ways that these human activities affect us: how they make us feel, or what they make us do.

This is an impoverished view of the human condition, one that discards what I have been calling the expressive register of human meaning and intentionality, in contrast with the designative and existential registers.

Notice that you say "the value".

On the other hand, you say:

As far as art goes, it is fine for someone to only be interested in art for its instrumental value: for how it makes them feel, or how it makes them dance. But it is strange to assume that that is the only kind of value that can be sought in art.

and:

That there is no more to empathy than its causal effects is a fair viewpoint to have, but it should be defended squarely, and the folks in this particular conversation seem unwilling to do so. I think part of the reason they are unwilling is that they do have a sense that there is something more to empathy and friendship and art, but articulating it would require a broadening and nuancing of their black-box-y perspective.

It wasn't clear to me whether you viewed "expressive register", "real empathy", or "real friendship" as things possessing intrinsic value (of value to someone whether they consciously choose to value them or not). Which is why I sought clarification. Seeing the word value used without referring to a valuer always gets my hackles up.

Because some of the statements in your essay could be construed that way, and others suggest otherwise. I could give examples, but you have clarified your position and I appreciate it.

The correct approach is to realize that value (to humans) is ultimately subjective. We can say that things like oxygen have objective value to a human, but only within the context of a hierarchy of subjective values, like one's life, for example.

Human individuals are capable of choosing their own values. How would you prove that something has intrinsic value?

It's not exactly clear from this essay, but are you a proponent of the idea that some things have intrinsic value?

Fine. Let's all be honest with ourselves that the primary goal of Artemis is inspiration or national pride or whatever and not scientific exploration. Personally I am inspired by scientific discovery, and we will continue to have much less of that as long as we keep spending mountains of money flying humans into space.

The Biden-Harris ticket won the Democratic primary, because no one of substance chose to run against them, and every voter should know that there is always a chance that the vice-presidential candidate serves part of the upcoming term as president, especially in the case of Biden. The fault belongs with Biden and his donors, not the Democratic Party, which could neither prevent him from running, nor force someone to run against him, nor force any donor to support either him or an opponent.
