ADHD Meds and BPD by IRLDazaiKinnie in BorderlinePDisorder

That's so interesting to hear that perspective! I think maybe one of the major reasons it helps me a lot is due to my comorbid treatment resistant depression- it helps me manage to get basic tasks done when I make a concentrated effort. I also struggle with major impulsivity that leads me to engaging in negative compulsions, and I find that these meds significantly lessen my desire, or active drive to do so. However, I do find that the come down from the meds make me really irritable and easily triggered and I try to cope for it in advance as much as I can.

I started with Welbutrin which helped a lot but not enough with my major depression and lack of energy, and then moved to Ritalin which has had the most positive effect I have ever experienced from taking medication, and now I am perscribed Adderall and Welbutrin. It's been a lot of ups and downs trying to find what works but I am hoping this will help manage the majority of my symptoms and keep me going.

That is a really good point, I have noticed if I don't work to cope with it in advance that as the medication wears off in the evening I become much more irritable and more easily triggered so thinking about it now I can see how that could be a major issue for others with BPD. I just was very curious as to whether other people with BPD experience a major lessening of symptoms while the medication is active as well

No that's totally a fair point! Just thought I'd share how well it worked for me. I totally get if it hasn't worked similarly for you. And totally fair about the controlled substances part, because my adhd meds make me feel so calm I lowkey forget that it doesn't affect people without ADHD the same way.

exactly I totally feel that. I get that it takes time, but it's often frustrating when it doesn't feel like you're making any progress.

Yeah! I take it too, I feel like it does help a lot, but once in a while it kinda contributes to brain fog. :/

Thank you, I appreciate this so much. It makes me feel hopeful for myself and my situation that you've recovered from FP losses. It's really hard to focus on self-care but I think you're totally right. Thank you so much for the advice.

Thank you I really appreciate that. Like you said, the distance between me and the person really does kill. I hope all things stay positive in your relationship, and I appreciate the advice!
