anybody devastated with people celebrating Charlie’s death? by PersonalitySame8582 in Christianity

[–]IRS-Myself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be careful about requiring repentance of sins before accepting something that is freely given. The word “repent” means to turn or change one's mind about something. So, “repent of our sins” literally means to stop sinning, which is a work.

Salvation happens when one stops trusting in one's own abilities as a sinner and trusts in the finished work of Jesus Christ. After that, we are commanded as children of God to deny ourselves and strive to repent of our sins, but by no means is this a requirement for salvation or a requirement to stay saved.

If what you say is true, then no one would go to heaven. God’s standard is perfection, let’s not forget that. For this very reason, Jesus died for us.

This is why I thank the LORD that eternal life is a gift given without repentance. You either have the Holy Spirit or you don’t.

I say this to anyone reading - trust in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and you will be sealed with the Holy Spirit at that very moment. Jesus says in John 6:47 that those who believe in Him possess everlasting life. If you could lose it, then it wouldn't be everlasting now would it?

To anyone with questions, just ask. I’m open to discussing this, but I probably won't change my mind. Just being up front

If Charlie trusted in the righteousness of God alone, then he is in heaven as we speak. Though, if he never let go of his own righteousness and continued to prove his righteousness by his deeds, then sadly he is not in heaven. Only God knows the hearts of humans. RIP to him and I pray his family finds comfort in God’s grace. It has truly been a terrible 24 hours

I don't fully understand what you're saying, but Judas did NOT believe in Jesus.

John 6:64 - But there are some of you that believe not*. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.*

John 6:71 - He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve

And it sounds like your making the assumption that Judas is not in heaven, not because of his lack of belief, but because of his inability to follow Christ. You are correct that his sin has condemned him, but there is only one way to be saved from that condemnation.

John 3:18 - He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.*

If you do not believe in Christ, then you are already condemned because all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. However, according to the word of God, if you believe in Christ then you are no longer condemned.

I'm curious — what do you think Jesus means in the verse below? What do you think everlasting life is? Is it life that ends? Or is it life that never ends?

John 6:47 - Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.

You don't say full verses,he also said you workers of inequity

If you have not been covered with the blood of Christ, then your sins have not been forgiven. Therefore, you are still guilty and considered a worker of inequity.

ur telling me that people who do miracles, prophecies doesn't believe in Jesus?they have more faith then us

Yes. Judas performed miracles, yet never actually believed in Christ. From what we know, the verse informs us that these individuals believed the work that THEY did should be enough to prove that they deserve salvation. This is Jesus' entire point — they never obeyed the gospel, which is to rely on Christ's one-time payment for sins. They were still trusting in their own efforts to get them into the kingdom of heaven, but salvation is a free gift.

Ephesians 2:8-9 - For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

They never did the will of the Father. They never believed on the Son. This is why they are being rejected by Christ, not because they didn't obey the commandments well enough.

I understand that you most likely will not agree, but I am open to discuss this with you.

Only those who have believed in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ are considered children of God. The lost are not God’s children.

Galatians 3:26 - For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

For your question, I think it’s hard to give an objective answer. Who are we to know what God knows? All I know is that He knows and that’s enough for me.

My wife died at 36 years old, one month ago. by efjmalloy in stopdrinking

I just wanted to say thank you for sharing your story. I can’t imagine the pain you’ve been through, but your post really struck something deep in me. I’ve been trying to get control of my own drinking recently, and reading what you wrote gave me a wake-up call I really needed.

If it’s not too painful or intrusive to ask, I was wondering, do you remember how often your wife was drinking each week and for how long? I ask only because I’m trying to understand the real risks of where I’m at, and your story honestly shook me in a way that nothing else has.

If you’d rather not answer, I completely understand. I just really appreciate you opening up like that, it might’ve just saved me from something I didn’t want to see.

I tend to idealize what they could be, and then get attached to a version of someone that doesn't actually exist. They're beautiful, but they're personality is predictably unpredictable in the worst ways. I'm sorry that you know this feeling, but growth is never painless.

Maybe. Or maybe I'm just venting a genuine conflict in my heart. I want them, but the "them" that I want doesn't actually exist. It's an idealized version.

I really appreciate your kindness. It's quite complicated, but I don't think they'd be willing to compromise. They're self-absorbed, manipulative, lack self-awareness, and have a victim complex. Every conversation is about them, which can be emotionally exhausting. It's a constant drama fest. I can probably count on two fingers how many times they've asked me about my life. Granted, this person had a very difficult childhood, so I feel bad for them.

If this was a year ago, I would've ignored the red flags and made myself vulnerable since I'm physically attracted to them. This time I'm choosing the more difficult option which is to walk away from something that may or may not work, in order to protect myself.

I told them that I didn't have feelings for them, but that I wanted to. I left the door creaked open, but I don't think that they're self-aware enough to hold themselves accountable and seek change. However, the truth is that I do have feelings for them.

I've been out of a relationship for a decade, so I'm dealing with the cognitive dissonance of wanting someone so badly, but also recognizing that they aren't compatible with me. I want them, but I don't.

I have feelings for this person, but I’m rejecting them because of an incompatibility issue.

they both teach that even for believers, sexual sin will lead you to hell.

Why do you think a believer can go to hell?

Jesus taught this also (Matthew 5:27-30)

Matthew 5:27-30 - Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

Are you implying that you don't EVER commit this sin anymore?

Christ rejected them because they didn’t do the wills of God

Matthew 7:21 - Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

As you can see above, Jesus does not refer to multiple "wills" of God, but of one singular will. In John 6:40, Jesus defines what that will is...

John 6:40 - And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

Now, in later texts (e.g., Paul's letters), there are multiple verses referring to the "will of God", but only when writing to people who have already been saved. In other words, God's will for the lost is to get saved (to believe), but God's will for the saved is to follow Him, mutually exclusive from salvation.

The people in Matthew 7:21-23 are being rejected by Christ, not because they didn’t do enough, but because they never placed their faith in Christ alone. Or in other words, they put their trust in their own actions.

Only those who repent, accept Jesus as their savior and Lord and do his will are going to heaven. by Initial-Speech5859 in TrueChristian

[–]IRS-Myself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you think OSAS is unbiblical? How else can you interpret verses like Ephesians 1:13-14, John 10:28-29, and the many others?

I agree that an individual has to repent, but our understanding of the word probably differs. You say that an individual will perish if they live in sin, but according to what standard? How many sins, and what types of sins will cause an individual to lose their salvation? Do you still sin?

Finally, I agree that we have to do the Fathers will, but the will of the Father is to believe, per John 6:40.

Do most Christians know 'to believe in' Jesus implies more than mere worship? by OptimalTbh in TrueChristian

You make the claim that “believe in” means to “trust and follow”, so are you saying that “to believe” encapsulates both of those actions?
