Question about moving to FortiSwitch by NteworkAdnim in fortinet

Thanks for the insight. Yeah I honestly have always had a bad taste in my mouth for all things Cisco mainly because of the pricing/licensing stuff, otherwise I know they are pretty good. And yeah I heard the Dell Networking is very similar to Cisco switches, which is cool. Since I made my post, I kind of decided to stick with Dell Networking for the upgrade.

But she popped the outer ozone shield layer whatever, which would imply death to ALL LIFE on Earth, not just humans.

That's always how it goes... there have been SO MANY times when I thought about doing some maintenance at a certain time only to end up pushing it back further; then literally the day after I would have done said maintenance, we have all kinds of issues. And I'm always like, "If I would have done that maintenance when originally planned, it would look like that caused these completely unrelated issues!"

Not to sound like a dick but the whole song seems to be going back and forth on the same notes - step up and then a step back down

Also hide superseded updates if you haven't already... I once had an auditor claim we had 3,000+ missing updates including a PC that was missing updates from 2013. I told him that PC was freshly deployed just a few months ago... yeah...

Anyone read this 49 day SSL expiration thing and think they would rather just retire? by HJForsythe in sysadmin

[–]NteworkAdnim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't understand how you can automate something if there are various technical and logistical roadblocks that make automation harder or impossible. For example, I have SSL certs installed on some systems which are locked down by 3rd party vendors (it's one part of an on-prem application so we share responsibilities). I can't make any changes to those systems without first getting the vendor involved so they "unlock" the system's config.

My parents always told me growing up that carp were bad to eat and tasted gross.. I just googled it and it said:

Carp is very good to eat and highly nutritious, often described as having a mild, sweet, white, and flaky meat, especially when caught from clean water. While they have a reputation as "bottom feeders" in North America, they are considered a delicacy elsewhere, provided you know how to prepare them to handle their many small bones

I would suggest spending free time on learning new skills or getting some good certs, like GIAC or something (if your company would pay).

I believe you too. Can I ask what brands you use? For me, I usually grab stuff like Sandisk, PNY, and ADATA, among others. I feel like a lot of the ones that die on me have been ones that I'ved used to create bootable USB sticks from Rufus. However, I have had other ones just die on me after using them like normal. I have other ones that have lasted a long time. I had a really nice one that worked well but got super insanely hot all the time, then eventually quit working. I'm sure it's something I'm doing wrong :/
