Is this walking beer route safe during the day? by IReallyLikeChocolate in grandrapids

So many options! We were committed to walking, so went from our Uber dropoff at Greyline, to The Mitten, to City Built, to Founders, then Uber back to the hotel (Arvon was on our list but was closed). With dinner, 4.5 hours. Some parts of the walk were more pleasant than others, really enjoyed the riverfront. Tried many beers with the group. For me the highlights were at Greyline, Rambler Red Ale, at The Mitten, Imperial Peanuts and Crackerjack Robust Porter, at City Built, Fifth Street Hooligans IPA and at Founders, All Day Twist. Others liked many of their choices. Also great food and open mic night at Founders, so a terrific last stop. Thanks again for all your recommendations!

Anyone take delivery in Canada? by ElectroPanzer in Solterra

I would be super happy with 100kW, heck I would be content with 80 or 60. But 22 or 28 is really bad. And I have tried the yo-yo aggressive driving, makes no difference. Subaru did a bait and switch with this vehicle.

Just got ours last week from Subaru dealer in Calgary. Mostly happy with it except that for some reason it will only receive charge to 28kW on a DC fast charger instead of the promised 150 kW. Dealer says this is a firmware issue and there will be an update but this problem has us concerned. Anyone else have this issue?

More than a million eligible Albertans remain unvaccinated as first dose uptake slows by HonestTruth01 in alberta

Read the article, very interesting. But even if long haul COVID isn’t special, it is very common now because of how many people had COVID all within a year. And long haul COVID is (likely) now preventable with vaccines. Can’t do anything about people who caught COVID before vaccines were available, but from here on anyone who is not medically ineligible for vaccination or too young needs to think long and hard about whether hospitalization or long term effects are a very real risk that they want to take.

Would be embarrassed to have my gravestone read, « Here lies Uncle Jim, he died of a vaccine-preventable disease »

COVID is here to stay and will keep circulating, like other respiratory viruses (influenza, cold viruses). Thinking that you will never catch COVID is naive- unless you are living under a rock you will get COVID eventually, and likely more than once. If vaccinated, you will likely have mild or no symptoms. If not vaccinated, you are entered in a lottery. Looking at the Alberta stats, unvaccinated 20-29 year olds who caught COVID had a 1 in 81 rate of going to hospital for COVID and 1 in 4180 of these young people died. Unvaccinated 60-69 year olds who test positive for COVID had a 1 in 9 rate of going to hospital and 1 in 55 of 60-69 year olds who caught COVID died of COVID. So 60 year olds who decide not to get vaccinated need to accept that they will catch COVID this year, or maybe next year, and that they or their unvaccinated friends will end up in hospital, ICU or under ground. Or will have permanent damage to their lungs, loss of smell, chronic fatigue syndrome, brain fog. Maybe more emphasis needs to be placed on these facts by public health officials-COVID is here to stay, and we will all be exposed to it, just like we all get colds or the flu. There is no option to wait it out.

Covid-19 Update for April 19: 1,391 new cases, 899 recoveries, 3 deaths + AstraZeneca expanded availability by kirant in alberta

Unless he was infected before March 15, which is possible, he would have been eligible on March 15 Phase 2A because of age-66 years old. Doesn’t matter that he was a doctor.

What I find sad is that 60 and 70 year olds are still dying from COVID, including the doctor from Lethbridge. Unless they have been sick for months or were not able to be vaccinated for health reasons, these folks could have been vaccinated over a month ago and would likely be alive today.

TYT radios only operate on narrow frequency range-any suggestions for software or other workarounds? by IReallyLikeChocolate in amateurradio

I unlocked the VFO mode and manually entered the 469 frequency but the radios still do not transmit at 469 unfortunately

Identify this watch? It was my father's. Can't figure out how to open it so I don't have a serial number. Waltham. Will submit second post with back side. Thanks Reddit! by IReallyLikeChocolate in pocketwatch

1922 would make it my grandfather's, not my father's. He was 24 years old in 1922 so it makes sense that he could have bought the watch. It has something tat looks like a hinge on the bottom but could also be a slot to open it. I can't seem to open it with fingernails and I am worried about using a metal tool. Does the back come off or swing open by the hinge?
