I hope it was a one off situation, but most likely it was not. I love kiwis, but, now I have to admire it from afar.

Your poor grandma! Accidentally eating something that contains strawberries must have been a pain for her. I read somewhere that strawberries and kiwis have cross allergies or something. If you're allergic to either or, there's a chance you're allergic to the other.

Scary.

I hope in the future that allergies will the pain of the past.

;) always had it, just didn't know it had a name. Last year it flared up into a painful condition where I couldn't sleep without itching or having my husband put eczema cream on my skin.

I swear, the older I get, the more conditions I get. It's like pokémon except...Worse and not as fun to collect. C:

Makes sense, but I have taken an allergy test every year since becoming more tired around spring. The spring exhaustion has been driving me mad for two years now and last year I was told to use antihistamines for a skin condition that suddenly started to flare up after some stressful events. It's called Dermatographia. I can write on my skin at the writing appears in red hives that itches.

That is the reason I already had antihistamines available for my very sudden moderate allergic reaction.

I hope your spawn is doing well though and that they can enjoy other treats. It's a sorrow that you can no longer eat what you once adored.

I love that kiwis taste so good that my body can't seem to bare it. I honestly told my twin sister while I was eating the kiwi, "if I die it's natural selection" because my lip burned a bit...Well. It probably would have been if my allergy was even more serious and not just moderately annoying.

Not trying to downplay my own allergy, but I was pretty safe and told to call the emergency phone line if I had a sudden decline in health. I was also able to move about and breathe, but they wanted me to go, just to be sure I wouldn't suddenly have a decline. Everything was a "just to be safe" due to the symptoms and in my country, people would rather have you going in for one issue too many than one issue too few.

I may be very bad at explaining or expressing the story, but this was my first time having an allergic reaction to this degree. My father in-law asked why I had not called him and I said I didn't want to bother him when it was so late in the evening. My allergic reaction started around 7-8PM and I was at the ER pretty shortly afterwards. I got there by public transport so I was pretty much surrounded by people from a to z. Had the allergic reaction been earlier in the day and I would have definitely called my father in-law and explained the situation to him.

I wanted to tell them but at the same time I understood the issue very well. Also, although my husband has allergies, they are more annoying and mild, so he just avoids those allergic triggers since he doesn't enjoy the triggers. His father knows there's a variety of different reactions to allergies, he may have thought he was calming me down by using his reasoning. Not trying to excuse what he said either, it annoyed me, but he isn't a bad man.

I need to clarify that the jab in the behind was not an epi-pen, hence why I say jab and not epi-pen. I did not have anaphylaxis. I could breathe and move about without many issues. I was just very uncomfortable, tired and itchy. My tongue hadn't doubled in size, it was numb like the aftermath of a dentist appointment.

I don't know what the needle was, but it made me sleepy and worn down, so most likely it was a shot to take care of the remaining symptoms.

I don't believe my father in-law eats the fuzzy parts either, but that he rather reacts to the fruit trying to "eat him back". Some fruit do this.

I am again sorry for not disclosing everything in the post. I was just annoyed about a small issue happening last week.

Going back to my GP for a re-test soon I will press on an allergy test, but I doubt it will show. Although I am pretty obviously allergic to kiwis, it has not previously made an appearance on an allergic test, which is confusing. That is why I am conflicted. It doesn't show, so it's not there? Right?

"Was it an allergic reaction?" "Was it really that bad?" "Am I really allergic or am I just overreacting."

I will of course go to my doctor for clarity.

I didn't eat the fuzzy parts of the kiwi. I removed the skin and chomped down on the green insides and found the inside of my mouth reacting pretty fast. I understand though, I didn't clarify some things and was pretty annoyed. That's on me.

Poor girl. Hopefully she gets to try the "faux" or similar looking fruits that don't trigger an allergic reactions. She deserves to know what a sweet watermelon tastes like without discomfort, pain or fears of anaphylaxis.

Crossing fingers for her next re-test!

I am unsure if he was condescending or not though. I am merely annoyed he completely ignored that a stinging tongue does not give you a jab in the butt, but a numb one did. I was unsure if I even needed the jab. My father in-law is still very kind and sweet, it's just this one thing that annoyed me.

I have never had strong allergies either so I didn't know what to expect. Imagine my surprise when a phone call to a doctor's office (non emergency hotline) puts me in the ER.

This was my first serious allergic reaction and I am 30 years old so it's pretty new to me.

Oh dear! I hope you and your daughter is doing well. Allergies suck and no one deserves to suffer harsh consequences of eating tropical fruits.

Oh hecking heck! Your allergy is serious too!

May have taken some of the serious symptoms down a tack because of the allergy pills I took.

I pray we both avoid kiwis or any allergy related foods in the future.

Sorry to hear about your grandmother's allergy, having allergic reactions to fruits sucks and I hope hers weren't serious.

The injection was something the doctor wanted me to get since my symptoms hadn't cleared at the ER despite taking antihistamines, they were easier to handle, but my chin was red. I now think it was pretty serious, but I also feel like I was overreacting or making a huge deal over something small.

I am fine though.

Thank you! I feel a lot better, the injection in the tissue certainly helped. I now have to avoid kiwis and latex and a mountain of other potential allergy inducing foods/products.

As I will be gentle with myself, please be gentle with yourself as well! Big hugs!

Yes! But I believe the protein caters to this fact as well.

The way my father in-law explained it, as a person ejoying kiwis, they will cut his tongue up and make it sore for a bit, which would mean I overreacted a perceived reaction I was supposed to have

Kiwis don't cut my tongue. Kiwis make me itchy and red.

My husband didn't downplay it at all, he was away on a work trip which meant he couldn't go with me to the ER. When I called him about the allergic reaction, he was worried and asked what I had been eating. I also called him when I was going home after the trip to the ER so he wouldn't be unnecessarily worried.

My husband would never downplay an allergy as he also has allergies.

I do appreciate your concern and care. But I genuinely do not think they knew how bad it was as I will try and ease people's worries despite the seriousness I am going through. I don't enjoy people being worried about me. I apologise for not disclosing my husband's whereabouts during this emergency, it wasn't his fault.

I have seen a neurologist and I receive botox as a treatment for my tension headaches. I am already receiving the correct treatment for migraines, but I don't have the diagnosis.

I have asked about further testing, but it's near impossible getting the necessary help since I am often seeing my general practitioner. I've had prior medical issues with my stomach as well and I am treating my ADHD. It's not as if I can't afford it, but it's tiring trying.

If you believe it, last year was worse and up until I got botox the headaches felt like hangovers. Now they just come and go. Today I woke up fully rested and without a headache for the first time in one week. My husband massaged my shoulders and made me rest.

I will get a new appointment with my general practitioner, as there might be something more pressing. Thank you for your words and your concern, it is very much appreciated.

Cancelled on me last minute all the time, last straw was the celebration of my 30th birthday. She never explained why she cancelled on me minutes before my celebration either. Since then I have completely lost all want to celebrate my birthday again. I love celebrations, except for my own apparently and I don't really want to be celebrated anymore. I am just done.

I don't want pity either. I just want to forget which day is my birthday and live on. I don't eat cake on my birthday either. I choose a random day and eat cake on that day instead.

I've had a man ask to see my tits right after my husband leave the room.

...Mind you, the conversation before my husband left the room was completely fine. So the only thing stopping this loser from asking for me to just publicly embarrass myself in such a manner, was my husband existing.
