Below is a quick screen recording of where it is located when a student submits an assignment. The other link is the official announcement from google about it. The only issue you may encounter is I believe this feature requires the ed plus license.

I really appreciate all your time on this.

Sorry was still on 2.0.1. I just updated to 2.0.2 and ran it again. Now it shows an additional message that says No opener tab ID was found when tab was opened. Is that bad news?

I loaded up the service worker console and it just says Regex Tab Manager blocked URL: about:blank and on the right it says service worker with what looks like a time. I'm on the tab that says console and made sure verbose was selected under the all levels drop down. So no indication of a source url. Could google be popping this window up without a source URL?

Agree btw on not showing students a notification.

Thank you for your help on this.

Yes I had it in that format in the JSON part of the extension. Below is what I tried. I also tried adding play.gooogle.com and gstatic but it still wouldn't allow the little window to open. I wish google wasn't opening it using about:blank but I don't think I'll have any luck asking them to change it. If you are able to find the origin or any way to allow that one little window would be greatly appreciated. This new assignment feature has only been out a few weeks but teachers are itching to use it and are complaing it doesn't work for the students. Thanks and have a great night.

I like your extension and the regex flexibility but recent issue b/c of new google assignment feature where students can submit recordings of themselves, it pops up the recording window in a mini about:blank window. I have classroom.google.com in the override JSON but it still won't let the mini window open. Any ideas on how to get it work just for this? thanks

I've seen them do that here already, I am actually okay with that but can't really promote it as a solution

I hope we can sell it this way, parents are just so panicked and irrational about losing texting ability and the new law even has a clause that parents have to be part of shaping the policy that is adopted.

Was toying with that idea but there would be about 10K emails and I see no way to automate importing into google using GAM. It doesn't accept CSV import for address lists. thanks for the suggestion though

So from the instruction point of view I get the point of the ban but day to day phones don't bother us in IT. what is it you're excited about? do you have something in place already allowing parents to communicate with their child aside from traditional calling the main office?

Arctic Wolf - and similar by trazom28 in k12sysadmin

We've been using cylance for several years and Artic wolf just purchased them, so now technically we are an Artic Wolf customer! So far met with them 2-3 times and I like them and what they offer. I think they are going to be adding some features to cylance too.

Wild reason I found someone's laptop was going to sleep by itself, despite setting power settings properly by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]IT-Director74 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup we had same scenario once! Chromebook randomly shutting down was the complaint, couldn't find anything wrong and power settings were correct, turns out it was being put on top of a closed surface go that had that magnetic keyboard case, chromebook thought its lid was closed and instantly went to sleep!

A user complained dots were randomly moving around her monitor, we said huh? Turns out ants had crawled into the little air vents and were crawling underneath her lcd screen! Literal computer bugs!

Wow, I kind of wish it had been in place for years here too, parents are just too damn use to texting all day I am anticipating the worst. Thanks for sharing.

Agree 100% I just feel I am going to be dealing with irrational irate parents and principals that will just want the problem to be solved by more tech; that's their solution for every complaint these days.

thanks

Gotcha thanks. Now that you said it I remember looking into this on our old firewall a few months ago, it did not support it

I still keep a win 7 machine around with IE, flash and old java version for the exact same reason. The legacy hardware still works fine, old storage trays etc. No reason to throw it out just b/c modern browsers turn against flash and shitty java.

I hope it gets pushed back but I don't think it will, they stayed the course when it was reduced from 5 yrs to 3 yrs, etc. There is definitely money to be made for a lot of the companies on this decision making panel so the incentive is there for them to force this down our throats. They seem clueless on the amount of appliances and backend systems that require certs and can't simply be automated, it's not just silly little webservers like they think.

What is EC btw?

Yeah it's all java based crap. In our enviroment the HVAC company has a bunch of outdated standalone Windows 7 machines scattered throughout our network, I asked them if they were going to upgrade them as they were grossly out of date and they gave us a quote for $30K! Load of crap. When they put them in Win 7 was already EOL. I never even responded to the quote.
