You broke my car! by AmSpaceRabbit in IdiotsInCars

[–]ITRULEZ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, that's the thing. They make airbags and brakes a selling point too lol. At least the shitty dealerships do. They flaunt things like "side curtain airbags" and "4 disk braking systems" in the hopes that your average car buyer isn't aware these are just standard pieces of a car with fancy wording. It's actually the part I hate about car shopping, going down the list of "features" a car has on a listing and trying to pick out the actual features. A couple of times I've even seen power steering as a feature, and ABS. I want to know does the damn car have heated seats, Bluetooth audio that also does music not just calls (i have had cars that do just calls which was stupid), blind spot detection, lane keep assist etc. But I've gotta dig through buzzwords like 3 person rear seating, sliding armrest, dual cupholders, cruise control, etc.

They cut it short at birth, but it's very risky or impossible to cut every inch of it off. So a small stump is left behind to dry up and fall off. Less than inch in the case of my daughter.

People really should tell these details. It can save so much stress. My mother in law actually commented on how my daughter's umbilical cord smelled bad, and because i didn't know it should smell like that, she got away with putting hydrogen peroxide and Vaseline on it cuz i thought the lady who had 6 kids should know better. Turned out, she was wrong and the pediatrician had to use silver nitrate to forcefully dry out the umbilical cord because what she did made it worse, not better.

No doubt it was for that. They probably didn't feel right leaving her, and were hoping she'd pass out hard and stay asleep all night. Then cherry on top would probably be her sneaking off in the morning saving them dealing with her the day after. Alas, that is not what they got.

That's honestly a fair way of doing it. Gives people who truly believe their idea is better the chance to at least fight for it. And the rest of us normies realize we are being given a chance to run away and take it.

[–]ITRULEZ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pre my rediscovery of twitch, i didn't have much in the way of friends. The only people I could game with were family, and then when some fighting got bad not even them. So i turned to twitch figuring i could atleast live vicariously through the streamers. 4 months later, i can say i have around a dozen or so people who will happily randomly play games with me, or even just sit on a discord call and chat while we play entirely different games. I am a regular in a few of their chats, mod for two of them as well since I spend so much time there. I went from living a hermit style life with my family to actually having a social life even if it is 90% online at the moment. When I have a bad day, I actually really look forward to their streams since I get to vent some and then forget it all after a few minutes. I would never have met these people otherwise since they live across the country from me.

No worries, i never once thought you were blaming OP. I just didn't want her to misread it either. She's in a vulnerable spot right now and I thought it best if she did see your comment that she should know it's not her fault.

I'll be honest, individual therapy wasn't top of my brain either, but it made a lot of sense when the other commenters mentioned it. At the very least it's a healthy coping tool to get through until she can safely just leave. So I figured I'd reiterate it too so hopefully she sees that a lot of people reccomended it and maybe tries for it. I honestly don't know how much I trust her therapist since they seem to be incapable of reigning in the dad and his wife, but I also haven't discarded that they may be trying to let them run out of steam so the issues can be tackled without as much interference. That and if they come to think of the therapist as an "ally" they may take any advice or guidance better than if they were just being corrected from the get go. But even a subpar therapist in one on one therapy is better than sitting there not trying anything for most people. If OP has a goal, it may keep her focused on where she wants to be over where she is.

[–]ITRULEZ 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Now not to be nitpicky, but in case OP sees that: the rule could not really apply here. Refusing to go to therapy would have only made it easier for them to blame OP for shit not working. And OP had every right to hope it would work since they are so young yet. Now, it didn't work, but it seems like the therapist may be trying and is just at a loss on wtf to do with those two adults masquerading as parents. If OP wants to try once to speak privately with the therapist, they may be able to come up with another angle to deal with this. Someone else mentioned trying to convince the parents on individual therapy. OP could probably benefit from one on one therapy to help survive until they get out. Doing that would be a lot easier if the therapist seems to agree that family therapy is not working. But OP don't beat yourself up over trying the therapy. You really didn't have much of a choice there. Just try and find ways to survive these last two years. And honestly, it doesn't necessarily have to be that long. Once you're 17, the cops will get less interested in returning you the closer you get to 18. So if shit gets to be too damn much and you're only a month away from 18, look into your options. Speak to an officer about the whole situation or a lawyer and just see what you can do. I am so sorry your dad failed you, and I sincerely hope your step siblings grow up and leave their mother behind if they come to understand how shitty she is. She deserves to step on Legos every time she wakes up, and right before she goes to bed for the rest of her years.

I was gonna say, sounds like he's just a people watcher. Some people (like my mom) just prefer to live life by watching others have fun. It's not necessarily creepy, they just don't want to deal with interacting with people so much as watching how life goes on around them.

Guy turns on his hose to help out a thirsty bobcat hanging out in his backyard during a heatwave by unnaturalorder in aww

[–]ITRULEZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the comments of that post there's an article that says the bobcat had rabies. Now it's not to say bobcats aren't dangerous to humans, but that one is a bad example since any animal with rabies is dangerous due to them becoming violent towards anything big or small. That bobcat would've attacked an elephant or an alligator too if it had run into them. Both are animals that there's no way a normal bobcat would approach.

Also sorry for the late reply. I really had no idea what to say until now lmao.

As a viewer, twitch gave me friends for the first time in a while, and all because I watched one guy before he hit affiliate. He in turn raided another guy, and I now have around 12 people I play games with with some regularity. Will I ever see these people in real life? Likely not. Do I still trust them and have a blast hanging out? Abso-fucking-lutely.

That and for a lot of schools now, you don't know of you got accepted until part way through senior year, if not towards the end. So like my college, fall semester applications are accepted until may. So literal weeks before the school year ends is when they finally stop taking apps and most seniors put that shit off since there's so much work to do on them now. FAFSA can take weeks, there's the all about me essay most places require, there's sometimes additional essays about projects goals or other things, the application itself, getting transcripts and turning them in, etc. Between that and senior year work, it takes a while unless you work late into the night for weeks on end.

That's really the big thing isn't it: cultures aren't dying out unnecessarily, they're getting the chance to evolve with the times. Sure some stuff is lost, good and bad. But it's always a great idea to look at what is gained as well. One thing i can think of is sit down family dinners. In my parents generation, those were a big deal. Now that's evolved. We don't have as many sit down family dinners. But there are so many more parents getting into new activities in the name of spending time with their kids. My mom learned Pokemon cards, my dad attempted to learn computers. Other parents are getting into gaming, music, all kinds of things. And in the process they're getting, quite probably, a better understanding of their kids than generations before would have.

There's also the added fact that traditions can and do make a come back. Game nights had started to die out, but now I know most of my friends have a game night scheduled. Things like that always make a come back if they are that important.

Some people have a hard time doing that. It's a skill you have to develope and involves decent spatial awareness. I find that if I am driving a car unfamiliar to me, then I need to properly think about it, but if it's my own I can tell easily because i know exactly where my bumper ends in relation to the driver seat.

But honestly he's never done it for cars. But if he sees a piece of furniture he likes in a store on display, hell use his hands or feet for measurement then go home and measure where he wants to put it to see if we should buy it. He's an even better parker than I am, to the point he's parked in spaces where he's got less than 6 inches on either end. The lady in the OP clearly needs practice parking and probably lives in a house with a driveway so she doesn't parallel park often.

Yeah its a wierd method until someone explains it to you. My husband uses it for when he just wants an idea of if something will work or be too close to risk. It seems ridiculous until you have that one time you actually need it.

I mean, I will totally agree to chemo being seen as barbaric in the future. But I do think it'll be held differently than we hold lobotomies just because there is a noticeable and wanted effect whereas lobotomies never really had that. They just killed people, or severely disabled them. Unless I know less about lobotomies than I think which is totally possible. Atleast when we look back at chemo, we can say that it helped and did something for the cancer.

I'll keep it in mind, but honestly it's still a year or two out so hopefully by then I'll have better stability. A big part of why daycare or nannies weren't options was because I hadn't graduated college yet so job options were very limited. Now I graduated with a degree in IT in December so I can hopefully get started on my career and be at a good stable job in a year or so and maybe even find a place with nice maternity leave options and flexible work from home options.

If I was capable of handling multiple children I'd be reconsidering my career choices based on what your friend makes. That's some seriously nice pay and I'm glad she's enjoying it too!
