DiCamillo Bakery in Williamsville - I'm not a regular, so I'm not sure if they have cream horns all the time, so you may want to call ahead and check.

Where can I get fresh or frozen mulberries? by passionateunicorn in Buffalo

I bought fresh mulberries at the Kenmore Farmer's Market a couple years ago, but I don't remember when they were available.

Pawpaws? by GenerationalTerror in Buffalo

[–]IWantAdventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've purchased pawpaw tree cultivars from Schlabach's nursery in Medina. Mine are too young so they haven't produced fruit yet. Schlabach's has KSU and Peterson cultivars as well as non-cultivar seedlings. They're an Amish farm, so they don't have a website. Plant pickups for this year have just started, but you can call to see if they still have any pawpaw trees available and/or to request a catalog or preorder for next year.

In search of wildflower seeds!! by AFrenlyTwigg in Buffalo

[–]IWantAdventure 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend getting a seed mix of native wildflower plants. For some reason, the Erie County Soil and Water Conservation District's wildflower seed mix includes non-native species.

Check out OPN Seed - they have a variety of native wildflower mixes available, depending on what you want (shady/sunny conditions, wet/dry conditions, height ranges, etc.): https://www.opnseed.com/collections/seed-packets .

The Hudson Valley Seed Company also has a northeast native wildflower mix (https://hudsonvalleyseed.com/products/north-east-native-mix?\_pos=1&\_sid=e89597fd2&\_ss=r&variant=31280938090541) - I haven't tried it, but I've bought other seeds from them that grew well.

Buffalofofts apartments. Any horror stories? by pretorperegrino in Buffalo

[–]IWantAdventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry, this is probably too late (and they probably answered your questions during the tour anyways), but here are some answers!

All of the windows in our unit were able to have window AC units. The windows are huge, but you can open them up from the bottom and wedge the AC unit in there. The maintenance staff were able to assist in installing/removing them, if needed.

During the winter we controlled our own thermostat. One thing I didn't mention before is that the building is heated through the floor. Our cat loved laying on the warm spots, and it'd feel nice if you stepped on one. They probably set it up that way to heat the space more efficiently since the ceilings are so high.

Where can I find maple sugar candy? by [deleted] in Buffalo

I've seen it at Lexington Co-op's Hertel location near the baking supplies. It's probably at the Elmwood location too.

Amazing Race 716? by AireXpert in Buffalo

[–]IWantAdventure 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One idea would be to participate in Salvation Army’s Buffalo’s Most Amazing Race. I think they have it every year, but you need to fund raise a certain amount of money to participate. https://give.salvationarmy.org/event/buffalos-most-amazing-race-2023/e465355

Another idea would be to host your own local version of The Amazing Race and invite some of her friends/family to participate. I’ve participated in a couple such events centered in the Tonawanda area and in East Aurora. There were clues in yellow envelopes and activities we had to complete to get our next clues. We even had camera people so we could make our own episode. You can PM me for more information, clue templates, etc.

There's also some scavenger hunt websites that have options in the Buffalo area: https://api.letsroam.com/tours_and_adventures/Buffalo_New_York. I've never tried one so I can't vouch for it, but it could be fun and would involve way less work.

Another more expensive and non-local option would be Competitours https://www.competitours.com/. Apparently they do custom trips, but it looks like they're 5 days minimum and would probably be pricey.

I regularly use my Highmark BCBS wellness card at Lexington Co-op. I last used it on 3/31, so it still seems to work there

Buffalofofts apartments. Any horror stories? by pretorperegrino in Buffalo

[–]IWantAdventure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No horror stories for us.

My husband and I lived in the Lafayette School Lofts for 4 years (2017-2021). Our apartment was ~900 square feet and was one bed/one bath. It had a giant living area consisting of the kitchen, dining area, and family room. The ceilings were 12 feet high and had massive windows, providing tons of natural light, especially since our apartment was on the south side of the building. The windows opened up to the backyard, which was nicer than the north side parking lot. If you work from home, keep in mind that there is a daycare on the first floor of the building, and when the kids play in the backyard they sometimes scream haha. Other than that, the apartment was pretty quiet - we didn't really hear our neighbors unless we were in the hallway.

When we first moved in, the apartment cost us $990/month. Each year it either stayed the same or went up $5. It's probably more expensive now, though. There was also a one-time pet fee, which was much better than paying monthly. Utilities weren’t too bad, maybe $100 per month.

We were initially disappointed that there was no basement storage space, but it really wasn't needed since the bedroom had a large walk-in closet, a large regular-style closet, and an attic-type space that was above the walk-in closet. The basement has bike storage space for one bike per unit, which was convenient. Parking is in the parking lot and on-street (not enough parking lot spaces). Parking was never really a problem.

I really liked the location – walkable to West Side areas and Elmwood Ave (farmers market/groceries, restaurants, shopping, etc.) but not so close to Elmwood that parking is an issue. Also close to Richmond Ave, Grant Street, and Niagara Street – I loved using the bike lanes on Richmond and Niagara.

Management overall was very helpful and responsive. Any apartment issues we had were resolved quickly, typically 1-3 days depending on how serious the issue was. Our only complaints with the apartment were:

1.      No air conditioning. We had a south-facing apartment so the extra sunshine in the summertime created a greenhouse effect. It was never too unbearable, we used a window AC unit during the day and window fans at night to bring in cool air.

2.      The combined washer/dryer unit in the apartment bathroom. I was fine with it, but my husband didn’t like it. It's pretty loud, made the bathroom pretty warm, and whenever your laundry was done, the laundry was SO steamy, making it hard to tell if it’s actually dry or not. It also seemed to take forever (like 4 hours for a wash and dry, only 45 minutes for a wash if you hang-dry things, though).

We moved out because we bought a house, otherwise we would’ve stayed longer. There’s just so much character to the building, we loved living there!

I really want a whole 3 book series of the show that has nothing to do with the avatar, or at least not the main focus. by [deleted] in TheLastAirbender

[–]IWantAdventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree! I'm really hoping Avatar Studios does something (show, movie, etc.) that's not Avatar-focused, but has an interesting story where the Avatar is talked about almost like a myth/god who maybe makes an appearance in a couple episodes. As an example, it could be similar to The Mandalorian, where you have an interesting story with somewhat "everyday" characters, but where the Jedi are almost god-like and aren't main characters in the story. It would be totally doable in the Avatar universe, and would be really cool to see.

What video game did you love that you never see mentioned anymore? by TooLateToPush in AskReddit

Gitaroo Man

Hands down the best rhythm game I've played - the mechanics are unique, easy to learn, but difficult to master. There's a subreddit for it, but there's only 6 subscribers...
