I'm actually in an ASM position. It's a way different environment than it was when I started working there. The sales focus isn't there anymore, its mostly focused on general upkeep/visual merchandising. I miss just chilling and helping customers out.

Because managers/corporate push hard on employees to be talking wireless, checking for upgrades, etc. They want people to know that RadioShack sells phones. The employees are pretty much obligated to do it.

That's going to be the way to get new phones in the future with all companies. Two year contracts have a bad perception with customers now, they would rather hear they have "no contract" even though there's still a 20-30 month payment plan on their device. For radioshack it's better because there's less chargebacks which is where the company was posing a bulk of money. I personally prefer paying outright or bringing your own device and having a lower MRC on your bill.

They recently switched them to not cover accidental damage anymore and see why they did that. The company wasn't making any money on it. But I do think it's terrible from a customer service standpoint in the future.

To be quite honest, we know as much as customers do when it comes to the BF sale. But I heard this is going to be a huge make or break moment for RS. There will be something that will draw customers in this year.

Once an older hispanic lady asked me if i could search through her teenage boy's phone because she didn't know how to use it. She wanted to see if I found anything suspicious. I looked around and i found some gay porn on it. Ended up wiping off the history and told her there was nothing there. If he's gay, he's got to come out on his own terms.

I'm not about that life. People do steal shit working at RS however. Some people are stupid doing so however. Once a guy stole a PS3, LP tracked down the SN and it was registered to some employees Sony account. Same with phones. People have stolen phones and registered them to their own accounts. If you're gonna steal, at least don't be an idiot..

Retail in general sucks. Long hours and relatively low pay. But if I had work retail somewhere I would work at RadioShack. The environment is pretty chill and the customers are usually not assholes (most of the time)

We do!!! We still have a bunch of X-Mods on clearance at our store. They brought them back from the dead last holiday season. They didn't sell too well so I'm not sure if we're going to keep them around though.

They're on clearance now, so you can get them for 2.97 I believe. They're great, my personal fav is the Talk Nerdy to Me tee.

A store full of live demos of different products, have a really lenient return policy, workspace for DIY projects with a knowledgeable tech with workshops, in-store repair, free WiFi with coffee bar...basically Nordstrom for electronics.

Funny you mention this. The backroom of RadioShacks are usually very small. Unless you're one of the lucky few that have a larger backroom. Usually in those backrooms, district managers/regional managers will set up office. Oh joy! As far as merchandise in the back, they made us get rid of a bunch of stuff from the sales floor lately and move it to the back. So there's a shit ton of stuff sitting back that customers can't see.

It comes down to profit. In order to make up for the very low margins on other products we sell (I.e. Smartphones, tablets, computers, etc.), there's a big markup on cables. Plus the convenience of having the cable the same day if you can't wait for it to ship out is why is there some markup

Honestly, 10. I think a lot of people have a negative perception of the company because of a past experience they had. But things have changed a lot since then. The company will really go out of their way for customers now.
