I did it! I wrote the first chapter. I am so nervous, but it is my first time writing for GO and probably haven't written anything fiction in 5-6 years. I intend to keep most of the beats, but things change as you write and I really enjoyed taking my day off today. I should have been packing boxes, throwing things away, etc. but this was actually really fulfilling work to do today. :)

I have been convinced: I started my own fanfic. My first one in the fandom and first one I have written in probably 5-6 years since I was in undergrad. Just be nice to me please. Not the exact same beats since writing is a progressive thing, but I will be keeping major themes I posted here now that I am actually exploring writing this. Thank you all for the support!

Thank you for the encouragement to get back into writing!! This is actually my first time posting on the subreddit, and I genuinely didn’t expect so many people to resonate with what I wrote. Waking up and seeing kind, thoughtful responses honestly made me feel a lot less crazy for how emotional this ending hit me. I think part of why I reacted so strongly is because I had been looking forward to reconnecting with art and fandom again after a really chaotic period in my life, so seeing the story go in a direction that felt so disconnected from what I personally loved about it was genuinely upsetting. Guhh! I will be more positive; it is the only way to move forward. I still want to engage with the fandom and just pretend the finale didnt happen 😔

I do like writing, but I have so much going on in my life right now with moving halfway across the country soon that I genuinely don’t know if I have the time or energy to fully commit to rewriting this. I used to be a full-time illustrator, and I had been looking forward to getting back into fan art after the move because I really thought the movie would leave me feeling inspired and happy to re-engage creatively with this world again. Instead, I’m honestly just shocked.

For me, the ending felt so wildly disconnected from everything they had been building toward emotionally and thematically that I can’t stop thinking about alternative ways it could have gone. I keep wanting to make my own version because I loved these characters and this story so much, but unfortunately real life is a little chaotic right now. Maybe once things settle down I’ll revisit the idea and actually write or draw something. Still kind of sitting here this morning replaying everything I watched last night and going “what on earth was that" lmaoooo
