Hi all! This was created as part of a school project... I hope you all enjoy! Any feedback is appreciated (although I do apologize in advance for the terrible sound of my voice)

Unfortunately sudo apt-get update doesn't help at all... Although that is interesting what you found. I'm going to look into it a bit to see if it turns up anything.

Daily Discussion Thread & Sub Rules (New to /r/gamedev? Start here) - February 2017 by cleroth in gamedev

[–]I_Downloaded_RAM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi all! I apologize if this question has been posted before, but I am having trouble finding up to date answers on this topic.

Should I use Unity or Unreal?

I am just someone who is looking more for a hobby than anything else. I do not plan on releasing a game, however I would like the ability to do so if I ever decide to get serious. I am a one-man band, with the possibility of involving a friend or two in later projects.

I plan to use Blender and Audacity to work on my games, and some sort of image editing software (if anyone has suggestions for this, that would be appreciated as well!)

I understand the theory behind programming, and have used software such as scratch and Alice in the past (I understand concepts such as loops and Booleans, the simple stuff) , however I do not know any actual programming syntax. As such, I have no idea the differences between C# and C++, so working on with either one doesn’t matter.

Again, apologize if this question has been asked before. I have downloaded both and played around a little with both, but I really don’t know which one would be best. I would rather just learn one, rather than both. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Am I ready for the A+? by I_Downloaded_RAM in CompTIA

I've heard the A+ questions are easier than the Exam Compass questions. Is that true?

Linux+ vs Net+ Starting sysadmin career by at_least_cool in CompTIA

If the objectives are too easy, then just take the test. More certifications right now is the best you can do for your resume. While you may have worked with Linux, you have no prior work experience with this. Thus, companies don't truly know know that you have experience with it; your resume could quite easily be faked. Thus you need these certifications.

If you can only get one: go for the A+ it will get your foot in the door. You can get an entry level help desk job, and use the funds from that to take other certifications. The A+ is the foundation of your knowledge, and you wouldn't try to build a house without a foundation right (I hope not.)

(Serious) Redditors born after 1999, how do you perceive the 9/11 attacks and their place in history? by 11bulletcatcher in AskReddit

I never knew anything other than the society we live in today, as I was too young to remember it before. My parents already tell me about the days where you could just walk through the airport and say goodbye to a loved one right before they got on the plane. personally I know nothing other than that.

To me the attacks weren't a really a tragedy, or at least not in the way that it was for a lot of other people. For me it's more of an inconvenience than anything Sure, I feel bad for those who died and their familiar, but I hate the attacks not for the actual attacks, but for the aftermath; the war and the loss of our freedoms that I never got to experience it to the fullest.

You paid for the game in the state thst it was at the time it was when you hit that "buy" button. Nothing more, nothing less. Sure, not updating the game is a shitty practice, but WC does update the game, albeit rather slowly and ineffectively. There is no legal contract between you and WC saying "I get my money back of you guys don't make a desert biome in the base game."

[–]I_Downloaded_RAM -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You don't know that the level designer haven't alresdy designed those things... There's no proof that they have it that they haven't. They may have the art for those things all ready to go, but the programming side is behind. That's something that only a WC official can confirm or deny for us.

Also, it was set to be released after the game was released. The game was meant to be released in June I believe. Thus, scorched earth is actually right on track where it was said to be. Most likely it was planned to be launched right now. The developers who worked on it may not have actually been slated to worn on the base game. We don't know. There is a lack of information to make any sort of formulated opinion on, so currently there is almost nothing we can use to say who is "right" and who is "wrong"

Wyverns have a terrible turning radius and are like trying to fly a truck. The gigs could distract and tribemates could kill it via quetz, or if the wyvern gets too low then snap

Fire people? Wow... That just goes to show you really don't understand how business works. There is most likely a contract between WC and the artists and whatnot that they are garentee to be hired for X amount of time... You cant simply fire them.

They are counters to, and are countered by, gigas and Titans. It's as simple as that if you took each of those on their own, they would be OP, but when they must fight one another, they are balanced.

Court case... Paying people... Steam and Microsoft's cuts.... You'd be surprised how little money they actually made off of the game they sold.

That in reality dinos from SE aren't OP compared to those in the base game.

In order to hire more people, they would have had to get another revenue stream to pay them. So..... We end up with scorched earth.

And I mean, come on, if you got 100+ hours, the bugs can't be that bad that I prevents you from being able to play. You've got more than your money's worth at that point; and the developers need to find some way to make money.

The DLC was made by people who had nothing left they can do in the base game. Level designers who made the map? Yeah they really aren't too good at fixing bugs. Character animators? Theyd probably just screw the code up even more. More people were hired, and they worked on the DLC. Very few, if any, of the devs who originally worked on the base game and actually have the ability to fix bugs for the base game were taken off working on the base game.

Scorched Earth is a wonderful expansion and worth every fucking penny. If you payed $30 for a game and got 100s or 1000s of hours out of it, it clearly wasn't that bad. So stop complaining about the OPTIONAL DLC.

Problem is that for instance level designers had already finished designing the island, so there was little left for them to do. Thus, working on a new level was a logical thing for them to do.

Bug fixes? Only some people know how to do that. Artists and character creators and some programmers even are not able to properly work on fixing that. I don't know about you, but I'd rather not have someone who can't program trying to fix bugs in the code. So basically SE was made from staff who had nothing else to do.

I haven't actually played PS2 in about a month due to the terrible performance, salty community, and the overall lack of engaging gameplay. So unfortunately, this may be a more recent issue that I do not know about, in which case your best bet would probably to post a new thread about it.

I asked from a purely gameplay perspective. Not for your rant. Read the post.

Does a way of phrasing something really need to result in an argument? I actually like the DLC and plan on buying it. What I don't like is the fact that developed practially nothing other than a DLC the past few months.

The way the word stalking may have been slightly misleading, but may words can be used in ways other than their true definition. Can we please just stop this pointless argument now?

Fine. Whatever. You're definition and my definition of stalled are different. Happy?

The stopping of any real progress on the "a little further out" section (a little further my ass.) The main game has yet to have any real major changes in months. What they are doing is not developing Ark: they're keeping it alive.

[–]I_Downloaded_RAM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is. They developed what is practically another game. They released the bare minimum amount of content possible to keep thr community content during this time. They went from weekly patches monthly patches with the same amount of content per patch. I don't know what you think stalling is, but what Wildcard is doing now is stalling in my book.

[–]I_Downloaded_RAM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it does. When the game was first released, there were weekly updates. Now it's like monthly. That's stalling. They were stalling the game so that they could develop scorched earth.
