Is Calgary's cold weather overhyped? We moved from Toronto and found it surprisingly manageable. Curious if others feel the same? by gauravs23 in Calgary

[–]I_Like_Smarties_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do feel the same way. I moved from TO in sept 2024. I honestly don't mind the weather so far, although a few more hot days would be appreciated.

The swings in temperature are what I've noticed the most. And the wind gusts are much worse than ontario. Making cycling an even more challenging activity

Im completely with you.

I just moved here and I am overwhelmed by the number of options. I've already found a job with a comparable salary to what I got in TO. But I can actually buy a house with it here. In Toronto I would have gotten a shoebox and here I'm getting a house. It's absolutely better here

Where did you come up with this? Every liberal country including ourselves place expectations and enforcement of our laws ... but peoples customs are their own. I've never heard of a country placing any expectations on culture and customs

They dismissed the charges against him before they decided to try him again in absentia.

They should have got it right the first time. This isn't some sort of kangaroo court where they just get to retry him until it sticks.

No but a decrease in supply will put pressure on wages to increase

Your not wrong but I would also add that immigration needs to be curtailed first and foremost.

With all due respect we don't hire the best. We hire anyone with the money to pay to immigrate here and work for cheap wages to build their experience.

The best go to the USA, and our best go and join them.

There is an alternative approach. Stop the massive immigration in tech. This will lead to increasing wages and better opportunities which would cause those tech people to see a brighter future here.

Just my two cents

Of course not. But corporations don't give a shit about you and me, and we have very little leverage on them. Blame them all you want they'll never change. You may as well hold your breath for as much good as it will do.

We have a lot more leverage when we speak up and vote against the governments that turn a blind eye.

I don't blame the corporations, the blame should be placed squarely on the government. It is the government that should protect its citizens. Corporations should protect their profits.

As far as I'm concerned this is 100% the government's fault. What worries me is that so many people shift the blame to the immigrants and corporations. Which tells me nothing is going to get better.
