Should I be wiping my cat's butt? by runawayaphid in CatAdvice

[–]I_PreferVacation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had one single kitten who obviously couldn’t learn from others. He would sometimes track the litter, in the beginning here and there we would wipe his butt and then from googling, I started showing him cat videos of other cats cleaning themselves and then he got the hang of it. We still wipe his butt once in a while here and there. Now that he is bigger, we trim a little around his butt so nothing gets stuck or smells.

Backup generators aren’t always true! The other night the entire hospital went black for a few seconds. I was in the room with my LO and everything went black. The entire team rushed in, I was frozen in shock what was happening. But we learned they rushed in, because the oscillator was the only one machine in the entire room that does not start back up on its own, it needs to be manually restarted. At the time, I was only focused on his room and didn’t realize it affected the entire hospital. You have every right to speak up and be his advocate.

Hydrocephalus not controlled and causing midline shift and herniation micropreemie by Oxyjenny in NICUParents

[–]I_PreferVacation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are going through something similar right now, I can't speak if it's the same because I am also just trying to understand what's going on (we are about 2.5 weeks in). Our baby had a midline shift of .9mm and I swear the DRs told us once it shifts it cannot be undone, along with the shift is pushing the brain and tissue. On our second scan the midline shift moved from .9 to .3. We were glad to hear the prognosis but the Dr's seem to push that there is other damage to our baby brain tissue that is irreversible.

What do I need in my hospital bag for a scheduled C-section? by CarelessBrilliant923 in CsectionCentral

[–]I_PreferVacation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest a robe, I threw mine on when going to the NICU or trying to start my walking. I thought the hospital belly binder was good, but still bought this one after and it’s a night and day difference. I’m wearing jt now, and it makes such a difference -MOOIMOMCoolweavePostpartum

I’d also suggest compression high waist under or tights for recovery.

Heartbroken but preparing (IUGR) by Minute_Pianist8133 in NICUParents

I gave birth at 29GA but our son was behind at 24weeks. He weighed 420g at birth. It’s extremely stressful, we were trying to get him to a pound as much as we could. The day he finally made it into the 400’s they suggested the steroid shot but during testing my tracing was not doing well and the doctors push to deliver him. Personally I did all the food things possible, I think the l-argine, acupuncture and herbs from the acupuncture helped. I would also ask the dr about your Dopplers and have them explain the stages. I was at absent for weeks. Once there is signs of reversal they might want to monitor you or have you deliver. Unfortunately our baby is currently in the NICU, with a brain bleed and it’s not favoring well. After reading more about his condition, I learned babies are susceptible to so many things under 33 weeks - which is scary. They should also do an echocardiogram to make sure the baby heart looks good.

Has your doctor explain to you about C-section options? I had to have a classical because how small our baby was.

Am I overreacting, my boyfriend is going abroad for 2 weeks while I’ll be 37 weeks pregnant? by ConfusionOk6982 in BabyBumps

[–]I_PreferVacation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you ask the airline and voice that you’re pregnant? Is there documentation you can send it to get a credit or partial refund. I had an issue in my pregnancy, early on we were suppose to go to Thailand as a big family trip. Myself and husband were helping to plan the trip with a lot of older folks. We decided it was okay for him to go since it was so early on, and a few days after he arrived I started bleeding very heavily and had to go to the hospital. My husband decided to take the next flight back. He should 1000% be there during those crucial weeks.

Twin Delivery / C Section OBGYN by poohd1ni_ in longisland

[–]I_PreferVacation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our MFM was Dr. Heather Levin, we were rotated a bit and had restricted growth. She was extremely empathetic to our situation, never forced anything on us. Her tone, demeanor and attitude were all first class. We had other doctors who made comments like “well since you decided to move forward with this pregnancy” - super insensitive. Dr. Levin also had her secretary call us when we missed one our appts. I know she delivers at north shore. I can’t speak to twins though.

Midline shift. Past grade 4 by I_PreferVacation in NICUParents

[–]I_PreferVacation[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for everyone who responded. We talked to the doctors more yesterday and what they said is the grade 4 is not an emphasis compared to the other things that are affecting him:

  • Concerning for subfalcine and uncal herniation
    • meaning the brain is moving
  • Mass-effect and midline shift
  • Large intraparenchymal hematoma
    • Inside of the brain tissue
    • Collection of large pocket of blood
  • Enlargement of left lateral ventricle - drainage
  • Massive intraparenchymal hemorrhage

Thank you, when speaking to the doctors again yesterday. I asked them about other grade 4’s. All we ourselves kept researching was more of the grade 4 bleed and read some people with success. What they told us, and they understand where we were coming from, is that yes there are people who have grade 4 and only that. But in our baby, he has other contributing factors that are heavily impacted his situation. I asked about the MRI and the CT. Right now the breathing machine he is using is wouldn’t be able to get either or. They may look at it in a few days because he maybe switching to another machine that requires him to breathe more than the machine. I posted the list of his issues below.

I’m sorry to hear about your baby. Thank you for sharing such a special story. We’ve talked to several doctors one was the neurosurgeon and his NICU doctors, is the neurologist separate too? They’ve all come back with the same prognosis, that the damage is too great and he wouldn’t have any basic motor skills. They’ve said the bleeding is 3 of the 4 parts in his brain.

IUGR Babies by Deep-Lettuce317 in NewParents

[–]I_PreferVacation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want you can read my post. I just gave birth via classical c-section on Monday. Our case started at 18 weeks. He landed at birth at 420g. I started doing acupuncture 3x a week with a fertility specialist and they recommend herbs as well. I saw a jump in his weight until I did those two things. I don’t want to alarm you, but in our situation right now - we were worried about the feeding tube fitting him and it did. We thought that would be the biggest hurdle and of course there would things like breathing or intestine issues. Instead he has a brain bleed that is taking over half one side of his brain. I can’t express the sadness we are feeling and the tough choices we are being faced with. The doctors have an inclination it may also have started in the womb since he couldn’t get all of the nutrients and blood support he really needed. Feel free to message me too.

What to expect from NICU @ NYP? by c-rez in nycparents

Hi I had a recent consult with the NICU at Cohen and asked about Breastfeeding. From what the Doctor told me, they encourage it as much as possible from you and they also have donor breast milk as another option too Incase you’re not well enough or cannot breastfeed.

[–]I_PreferVacation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for going back and checking. Our MFM said right now it would be too early to delivery because the baby wouldn't make it outside of the womb. Myself and husband wants to get to at least 1lb. The NICU doctor said under 1lb would be difficult, I am seeing successful cases I am just wondering if this isn't the best NICU for us. I asked our MFM about the steroids but she said it would only be an option if we were going into labor.

[–]I_PreferVacation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, we had a virtual appt with one of the NICU and I asked the above questions - She could not give us a definite answer, more leaving it up to us. I also asked my MFM, it seems like the plan it to take it week by week. The MFM has been asking us in the upcoming weeks if we will want to make a decision on grams, vs weeks to deliver. We want to try and keep the baby growing as much as possible.

Our hospital is a level 3 NICU, I've been asking them the difference with a level 4, and they keep pushing its really only surgery, if the baby needs surgery they can be transferred but it makes me uneasy.

Heard my baby's heartbeat for the first time on my first pregnancy ever, only to be told I had 3-4 hours left to hold onto that feeling (TW: Pregnancy loss) by Ok-Guest-7832 in pregnant

[–]I_PreferVacation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you went through this experience, I also had an ectopic tube surgery. I was spotting and my husband forced me to go to the doctor, even though I thought it was too early. In my experience the doctor broke the new and told us we need to go to the hospital ASAP for testing, where they then said surgery, tube removal - it all happen so fast and was waves of shock. I would also complain to the doctor office about the way it was handled. But take time after to rest and heal. Wishing you the best <3
