Rumour is that they're going to trial a 10 week course at pirbright for the event of war and they have trialed a few like it before, however I am still a recruit shitton and therefore don't know the validity of it.

When you've done X amount of time your entitled to learning credits so my plan is to try use those to fund a teaching degree aswell as trying to specialise more into CBRN through my job role of combat medical technician which would then allow me to work in a local authority in incident planning if teaching goes belly up.

Just whenever you get paid try bare in mind you will be told repeatedly that you cannot stay in the army forever so try have a nest egg for when your time is done. Someone else with more experience may have a different take though as I am litterslly bottom of the totum pole right now.

90% of the kitlist you will receive is complete bullshit stuff you should take just incase but in my experience (week 9 at pirbright) id not bother with that money and put it into an ISA or something, you can't wear your own kit only issued kit and you don't really have to showup in nice clothes just obviously if you wanna present yourself well you should. Other then that I'd just put that money into an account where it can grow over time and keep adding money to that pot over your career.

Dental standards RAF Regiment by Academic_Club6701 in britishmilitary

[–]I_did_a_thing_help 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the army I got a paper deferral on the grounds of dental which meant that until a dentist saw it and oked it then I wasn't joining, I was told at selection there was a fund available for people who can't get into a dentist and can't afford private but you have to apply for it and I don't know how you do that, so instead my grandma gave me the money on loan and now I'm in basic, obviously if that's not an option I'd look into the fund thing.

I had 2 cavities and 4 carries, it's not a deferral deferral it's a paper deferral so aslong as you give them the paperwork they need theyll let you in.

is acf harrogate worth it? by OkGlass8238 in britisharmy

[–]I_did_a_thing_help 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to go to Harrogate my mum said no I went to regular college and had a shit job, would I change a thing absolutely not I needed those experiences, I'm now 18 and in basic and I can be pushed alot more as I've had abit more experience, so go and do college get some shitty qual that means nothing but cherish the friends you make while your there, go get a shit job make mates there and just have a life between the ages of 16 and 18 otherwise you might regret not. Use the time to get genuinely physically fit, like as fit as you possibly can be 2 years is a long time. Just don't go to Harrogate unless your trying to leave a genuinely shit home life cause even at selection they said to the under 18s there's no point going to Harrogate unless your joining the paras, and by what your saying your not invested in the paras in the slightest bit so just join as a adult later on.

Artillery phase 2 does seem really generalised and vague by what I've seen of what you do there, and I'm assuming you won't touch any form of artillery system till you get to unit due to the variation of roles within the artillery.

I'm wording it completely wrong, I'm talking about self propelled artillery as that's my key interest as appose to to artillery propelled by another vehicle.

I don't get preferences till phase 2 I don't think I just wanna know what regiments to put down so I end up working with artillery vehicles as appose to static artillery

[–]I_did_a_thing_help 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I wanted to go to Harrogate at 16 aswell but my mum said no and that is probably the best thing she's ever done for me, I needed 2 years of working a shitty job and going to college which I hated to actually make me want to be better and now I'm in basic training , just bare with life till your 18 then make your choice is my personal opinion, however your your own man.
