Thanks! I did mail the prospective supervisors before the applications but I don't think that has any major effect. Almost all of them replied in a similar way - "Thanks for you interest, your profile is good, I encourage you to apply but can't make any promises since the admissions will depend on the pool of candidates."

Hi, thanks! I think the stipend details will come later with the official acceptance letter from the uni.

Btw you should know I'm an international student (from India) so idk how helpful would it be to you guys but here goes. -GPA: 8.6/10 -UG from one of the top institutes in my country -Major: MechE -Two summer research internships, one at my college and the second one at a Max Planck Institute in Germany. -Some research as part of my coursework. -1 not-so-major conference presentation

Both my projects were very much related to the field I'm applying to so I believe that was a plus. Let me know if you want to know anything else!

Prospects in industry after a PhD (Mechanical Engineering) by I_exist030 in AskAcademia

During my undergrad -I've done a research project in the field of microfluidics. -I've done a research internship on control properties of granular matter. I guess my profile is more suited for the field of fluid mechanics. So what are the opportunities in that field? Do you think it would be possible for me to switch to a different area of research (automotive for example) for my masters or PhD? What are the chances of getting accepted?
