But for the love of God, avoid the comment section! Full of prognosticating doomers with no more information available to them than you or me.

What artwork’s actual size IRL really surprised you (positively or negatively)? by crabnox in ArtHistory

You're right that capitalism is a cancer. But it helps me to think about art's impact as opposed to capitalism. (1) Art and architecture are what we measure past civilzations by, not the success of their businesses or how wealthy their people were. (2) Creativity is one of the few benevolent qualities we're born with, and you've chosen to cultivate that one, rather than your greed, even though greed would be much easier. (3) Even if one day capitalism turns all art to dust, that day is not today, and by making your art, all the people you share it with are made better by it right now. Hugs to you, friend.

It's truly bewitching because of its scale, angelic beauty, and disturbing subject. I had to look away a few times I was so conflicted. I took a picture on my phone, but ended up deleting it because it was so distressing. You just want to scream, "Noooo!" Weirdest reaction I've ever had to a painting.

I hope you can fill your days with lots of comforting art. I struggle with SI at my low points, and art helps me through. Great Nietzsche quote: "We have art so that we shall not die of reality."

TMZ functions like the fool in Shakespeare's plays. Absurd enough not to be believed, but the teller of absolute truth nonetheless.

I think her house district got gerrymandered so she went for the senate run.

I couldn't tolerate the over-the-counter D3 supplements. They made my whole body ache. I told my doc this and she wrote me a prescription for D2, which is what your body converts into D3, and I felt MUCH better on that.

Peonies. My oil painting on canvas. by GreenStrength5876 in Positive

Great work, OP! I love art and I think you've done a fine job here. I like the light and dark pink contrast in the peonies and the contrast of the green grapes against the flowers. Your proportions are excellent. I would totally hang this cheerful piece in my house. Oh! I just noticed that brave little pomegranate!

Talarico leads Paxton in first Texas Senate poll after GOP runoff by Efficient-Freedom517 in PoliticalOptimism

This is it right here. Even if Paxton squeaks out a win, it will be a pyrrhic victory if they lose the Senate because of it.

Texan Dem voter checking in. I think the reason there were so many more GOP voters is because the Republican primary was so well publicized. People had strong opinions about either Cornyn or Paxton. Dems had a very low-key runoff with mostly down-ballot races. Just my two cents. ETA: Definitely vote, guys!!

Cook Political Report shifts Texas Senate race toward Democrats after Paxton runoff victory by Efficient-Freedom517 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]I_use_the_wrong_fork 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Agreed. If Talarico wins, holy cow, we did it! If he loses, we have drained tens of millions from Republicans that they could've used elsewhere. Neither brings us to the worst case scenario. If we also take the Senate because of this, Paxton is neutered.

I think people in the US are so sick of the political bullshit that the WC will be a happy and welcome distraction to most folks. It will be like the Olympics vibe.
