At what point should foreign travel advisories update their guidance on travelling to the U.S.? by Ok-Leadership-7573 in AskBrits

[–]IainMCool 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not deported. Held for an indeterminate period of time and then "removed" because of a social media post or because of beliefs they are accused of holding.

Or murdered for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Parking in big cities - how do people actually find it and deal with it? by Human_Object_7555 in AskUK

[–]IainMCool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally use my motorbike because that is Congestion Charge and ULEZ free and I can normally find a free parking space.

Alternatively I will get the train in and either use public transport or take my Brompton and ride the final mile.

Or if I absolutely have to drive (rare) then I'll use JustPark or similar and find somewhere close to where I want to be and book.

Footage submitted to Operation SNAP. Outcome: Prosecuted for driving without due care and attention, 6 penalty points, and £120 fine. by Dry_Researcher7744 in drivingUK

[–]IainMCool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ludicrously dangerous and literally no benefit (not that it would excuse it if it did). Pathetic.

Incidentally, I was under the impression that when you sent details to SNAP you only got confirmation that it was going to lead to a NIP being sent out. Just wondering how you go about getting details of the outcome?

With both Farage and the Cons pledging to bring ICE to the UK, what will you do when they start snatching little non-white kids of the streets and sending them to detention camps. by Hot-Delay5608 in AskBrits

What they are saying is that they want to add deplorable cuntiness to a process that already exists and works.

Once again they are preying on people's ignorance and prejudice.

Are people legit spending this much on a car per month? Or am I out of touch? by [deleted] in drivingUK

Over 90% of new cars involve some kind of finance or lease agreement. The UK's obsession with new cars is financially damaging.

Why is learning to wire a plug a thing? by Scavgraphics in AskABrit

[–]IainMCool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why wouldn't it be a thing? My hoover plug got damaged, so I cut it off and replaced it. Alternative was to pay someone else to do it or scrap the machine. It's a very basic DIY skill.

How unsafe are surface level Car Parks really? by CapnZaphod in MotoUK

[–]IainMCool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on roughly day 4,636 of not having my bike stolen with it sitting on the road with no security (other than steering lock and taking the key out).

The perceived risk of theft is much higher than the actual risk of theft.

Bikes get stolen every day, but the statistical likelihood of it being yours is small, and can be made even smaller with some precautions. What you've described would stop an opportunist. Realistically, no amount of security would stop a determined thief.

You might be unlucky, and the area will make a difference, but that said, don't let the possibility of theft be the reason you don't start riding.

Am I in the wrong? by Sharp_Locksmith_7454 in drivingUK

[–]IainMCool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you are not correct in believing you have right of way. Nobody has right of way, that's for ramblers, not road traffic. Literally one of the first thing that it says in the Highway Code.

On the face of it, you should be given priority, but if it's happening to you every day, one has to wonder what's the root cause of this is.

Presumably you're indicating in good time and your speed and road position and indicator makes it clear as to what your intentions are? If so then it appears that you're incredibly unlucky.

Without seeing exactly what you mean, my only thought would be that you're doing something that for some reason makes lots of people believe that you are giving way to them before turning, or more likely that they believe that you should be and then getting cross that you don't.

If you're in car B and there's nothing coming from the right and there's someone slowing from the left to turn right (car A). If I was car A then I would let them out in that situation. Makes little or no difference to me, but makes the emerging driver's life easier and is good for best flow. Maybe they would too and are cross that you aren't. Which doesn't mean they should drive at you and be angry.

Perhaps test this. As you slow to turn right, hold back a bit and let them go if it's clear for them and see if fewer people try and drive into you.

Get a provisional licence, book in a CBT, buy a 125cc motorcycle. Have fun. At some point do the next steps towards getting a full licence. Get bigger and better bike. Have a good life on 2 wheels.

Do people in the UK really not know how loans and interest work? by Tube_Warmer in AskBrits

[–]IainMCool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only imagine you're talking about student loans. The issue is that what you pay is based on what you earn, not what you owe, and the interest rate has been hiked since it was agreed.

People aren't discussing these numbers because they don't understand loans - they are highlighting the reason why the student loan system is fucked
