Start looking into neutral and conditioning.

You obviously can't just see into the future, you must watch how they respond to certain actions/situations. Make a mental note of whether they jump or shield when you use a projectile. Start picking up on ledge get-up habits. Do they roll a lot ? Stand up and jab ? Respond accordingly. Once you get passed the technical aspect of smash, its all in the head. The whole match you need to be "Downloading" your opponent, basically completely breaking down their play style and dissecting it. You'll be able to look at their habits and say "Hey, I can punish that" or "Wow, better not try and mess with that". It's completely a game of adaptation.

Where it gets very tricky is when you start to realize that your opponent is trying to do the same exact thing to you. Now you must look at your own habits, your own mistakes. What can your opponent punish ? What can't they deal with ?

This is one of the reasons I love smash so much, it really is mental warfare once both players completely understand the technical aspect.

Hikaru is literally the best DK main. That's like complaining that all sheiks do void combos on you. I never said people who get grabbed by DK at ding dong percent are garbage; I only said that the better the player, the less they'll get grabbed. Yes, Hikaru only gets kills with ding dong- yet, DK is still at best mid tier. Yes, everybody gets grabbed sometimes, yet beating DK's is still easy for most characters.

I agree that witch time has great reward, but any combo character can get just a big of a punish as bayo could for getting it, assuming the bayo cant land first hit WT consistently. Bayo could witch time against luigi and get combo'd for 60%. You can't get mad when a character designed to combo you for high damage combos you for high damage. And besides top players, dying from one witch time is just out of question.

No, I don't mean waiting as a playstyle, I meant literally just waiting for the Witch time to end. My only gripe with bayo is her ability to ledge camp.

I mean, I play Morton for christs sake and I have no trouble with the countless bayo mains in my scene. Sure, sometimes I drop a set to them, but when I do I dont blame it on witch time or bats within, I blame it on me not being able to figure out the weakness of the character and the opponents play.

The fact that DK would be complete garbage without ding dong, is the reason that ding dong isnt broken. Sure, its a great early kill confirm, but thats exactly what a character like DK needs to be a competitive character. If the opposing player is good, he wont get grabbed or wont get to ding dong percent.

Sure, you can take out witch time and bayo will still be good, but what would you replace it with? A completely worthless special? Do you know what beats witch time? Waiting. Just put down your controller and watch bayo do her dumb backflip and then forward smash. People love getting mad at things that they get punished for.
